i’ve watched so many review videos for a starter amp/home practice amp (for my 9 year old) that now i’m more confused than ever, one thing everyone agrees on is that that the fender frontman 10g is a no go, i’m just going to close my eyes and throw a dart Comment from : @mario312 |
Totally agree about Spark (version 1 was too bassy and muddy) and Yamaha THR (completely overhyped and overpriced for what it offers) I had them both and decided to stick with my Micro Cube, which made more sense for me There are so many great practice amps for little money nowadays Don't fall for the hype Comment from : @Apollwn |
Guitar World was doing this way before the days of affiliate links They were known for colorful language, such as describing a DOD pedal as "psyched like h€ll to lay on your boot!" Meanwhile, the pedal was a compressor, with an extra medium gain boost Comment from : @DerpRulesAll |
Problem is, Elmo's playing is so incredible that he makes even the worst amps sound pretty good Comment from : @thomasjackson474 |
Brother, when I see your videos, I am like "Ola who?" I mean no disrespect to him, but I love your non-narcissitic attitude which is rare these days with so many talented shredders out there! Always tasty phrased licks, whether pentatonic or modal scale stuff Been playing for probably as long as you have been alive and I have learned so much from your informative vids Thanks so much Elmo🙏 Comment from : @scotthayes-nylonstringguit8592 |

I have been using a Boss GT-1 multi stomp as a budget line6 helix for years I run it with headphones usually but have also used aux cable from headphone port to aux in on my home stereo It also has audio-interface built in so you can record stuffbrYou can download patches to easily get certain sounds toobrbr*Note that weirdly listening back through headphones when using as interface despite recording in stereo you hear it in mono Comment from : @Mr986Willis |

The Vox is to tones what the chalkboard is to fingernails 💅😖 Comment from : @patbusnello9658 |

Elmo, brI'm a big fan of your reviewsbr1 A SME A subject matter expert on guitars and ampsbr2 Honest Honest and almost unfiltered in your reviewsbr3 Diplomatic If a guitar or amp is bad, you say so, but take the time to say that the vendor does make good stuff but with different modelsbr4 Quirky You are a bit quirky and always entertainingbrbrYou are Finland's best export to the world :)brbrThanks Elmo Comment from : @RichardKraneis |
Honnest review and i agreed on what you said about the yamaha who is really too expensive fir what we have but you have speak about the spark 40 but so why not talking about the nux mighty space if you like the smaller model ? Have you ever tested it ? What do you think of this one ? Comment from : @renmad0078 |

I have more practice amps than I'd care to admit, some are just part of the collection, some are not my favourite The one I use most is a Laney mini Supergroup stereo (non blue tooth version)br6 watts of solid state power, twin speakers, twin channel delay & master volume & it fits on your coffee table or shelf It's not the greatest amp ever, but kills it for plug & play practice Comment from : @BenHackett-x7m |
I personally really like the Blackstar ID amps, they just have one big issue, the speakers suck balls I plugged my ID:60 TVP into a Harley Benton Vintage 30 2x12 and it sounds great I think most of these suffer rom their low wattage and bad speakers Comment from : @justinvzu01 |
"Why would you need 100 Watts for practice?" you ask? For the same reason Dirty Harry used a 44 Magnum: "It will blow your head clean off" Comment from : @squirelova1815 |
🤣😂🤣 damn that's some funny stuff right there Comment from : @robphillips8351 |

I,m surprised Joyo dc15 is not in the list Good clean and brown sounds Battery power for hours They include a drum machine and looper to help you keep practicing Comment from : @miquelmarti6537 |
Hi! Thanks for review Do you think Joyo Bantamp XL could fit in a list of perfect small practice amps? What do you think of meteor and zombie Bantamp models? Comment from : @bagazheful |
Don't judge the Spider V mark II by the mark I BIG difference brI tried a number of the least expensive modeling amps and that one came out on top The only thing I don't like is there is no effects loop, my Strymon reverb can't be used with the higher gain models Comment from : @TheBoboMaker |
Straight up, no bs Try the Bugera infinium I find it to be an awesome in home jam amp I'm not even a "good" player and I even sound good thru this amp Comment from : @jasonbutler5113 |

Ummm, I haven't understood anything about that "affiliate link" stuff, can you translate me that? 😵💫🧐🤷🏻♂️ Comment from : @octtrinittolavg |
I love your honesty These lists are politically and financially driven to encourage advertising dollars I'm a beginner looking for a practice amp, so your ear is a thousand times more educated than mine I've looked at the Yamaha THR and ruled it out based on the extras Way too much Yamaha is a big advertiser for Guitar World, obviously Comment from : @lifesabeach8133 |
Respectfully disagree on the Orange Crush 20 Is it terrible? No! Maybe for shredders it is, but for the average player it is fine 😊 Comment from : @TheTwangKings |

I wonder how good the Dual Cube and Cube Street 2 would be as practice amps Battery power is nice I sold the THR10X mainly because the speakers had no punch Comment from : @martinfido2161 |

Of the amps you just demoed, the Katana smoked the rest, at least IMO Nice video! Comment from : @TELarkin61 |

I own an Originalversion Blackstar ID Core Stereo 40 Watt Amp that i like very well sounds great for ots size the 20 Watt and 10 Watt versions are quite lacking for tonesby comparison mine has larger 6'5 in speakers as the other two have 5 in speakers so lacing bass tones I also re-Amp mine through my surround receiver with the sub woofwr included so get more overall deeer sounds from the signal chain overall plus the guitar has quad rail humbuckers in it powerful and deeper tones from the Stellarcaster i bui;t from a Starcaster Strat by Febser,, stripped and rebuilt overkilllol 3 of the quad rail Humm's with Les Paul wiring 500K push/pull audio taper Vol ciol splits on all 500K audio taper tome pots bypass sw for neck and bridge together regardless of the 5-way sel posision and a few other trickslol stars and planets custom airbrushed paont with clrar glossthe Stellarcaster Comment from : @KennethCrickmore-t1i |

Hello Elmo brThanks for sharing your knowledge brLove & respect from UK 🇬🇧🎼🎸 Comment from : @ItsRael108 |

At first, a practice amp should have a metronome/drum unit and a tuner Comment from : @psycodad6868 |
Good video, manbrHoly smokes, over 600 euro for the Yamaha (excluding sender) That is nutsbrI did really like the Blackstar Fly That one sounded great for being so small Comment from : @raytorvalds3699 |
I had a Blackstar Fly3 and the NUX Mighty Lite GT and I did some tests and I sold the Blackstar because I found that the Mighty had a better sound, better distortion with a little extra drum machine I can't wait for you to try the Boss Katana air EX which in my opinion is one of the best in its category, hands down Comment from : @nouvellecivilisation5895 |
LOL I love you elmo! I love your brutal honesty And I what happened to agree with you😊 Comment from : @jimmyjames7946 |

I reckon I bought a THR30II 18 months ago, it was cheaper, I had it new for 520€ You can get nice tones out of it, from cristal clear to blues, crunch or "modern" kinda metal BUT you need the app on your smartphone to build the presets, without it there are some stuffs you can't do (as far as I know) if you want to chain effects or access to the compressor/limiter, noise gateIf you already have a relay G10TII in your gear you can use it with that amp Also useable as an audio interface It's a bit pricey if you don't need those features, but otherwise it seems like a good portable tool Otherwise if you just need a nice clean tone and an acceptable "dirty" tone, the Fly3 is best bang for buck I guess Comment from : @arvetemecha |
Hi I'm going to be brutally honest, I wouldn't buy any of the amps on that list (except for the Katana) I simply buy the tube amps I want and for practice play quietly using it's master volume or if no master, an external attenuator or use the guitar volume and perhaps an overdrive/distorsion pedal Regards Comment from : @irf888 |
This is Why I love this channel, and Why I studied many of your videos before I went out and spent my Hard Earned money on a new guitar and ampbrThough, I got "budget" gear, It's exactly as you stated in your reviews, the pro's and con's, that led me to choose what Best suits what Style of music I love and want to playbrDon't change, you're do a service to us Guitar plebs Comment from : @tysondog-original |
Yamaha THR 30 ii is absolutely great and tone is absolutely the best brYes it’s a professional tool but worth the price trust me Comment from : @dad_halen_5150 |

I cannot believe the Fender Mustang amps are not on there That is just ridiculous Comment from : @TheCommonSenseProfessor |
Elmo, love the channel! brLove your honesty, I used to own a Roland microcube I sold it 15 years ago But due to your demos over the years Always including the microcube I found a used one, first version and snatched it up The speaker was kind of worn out, so I replaced it with a Jenson, and it roars! Will never get rid of this one Comment from : @nicolamontoro |

Hi Elmo!brZsolti here from Austria…brFirst of all thx a million for Your very informative, professional uploads here 🙂👍👍👍👍👍brI’ve never commented here but now I’ve really had tobrI’ve just received (yesterday) from Thomann a HoTone Pulze modeling combo amplifier…brIt’s relatively new from the company…brAfter unboxing it I just couldn’t finish noodling around with it…brFor a very long time I didn’t have so much fun with a gear for guitar playing/practicing as with this little thing…and I’ve had a few really really expensive stuff around me though I’m far from what you would call a professional musician…brIt’s just amazing…brWish You all the best and loads of greetings!br🙂 Comment from : @zsolttoth6948 |

I love my THR10C, and would love to upgrade to the THR30ii wireless, but it should come with a wireless sender, it should include a looper and come with foot switch, and should be half the price Apart from that it's a great amp Comment from : @robbaskerville253 |
hi Elmo, with the amount of gear readily available, what do you think about amps that are available as software, do you think real amps are still better or are they both the same? thanks 🎸🎸 Comment from : @metalhead_1996 |
Thank you, very good video Whenever I search for anything, almost every list I find says only good things about stuff, however they are not nearly as good as they are described So I think this will be useful for a lot of people Comment from : @Archerinho |
Some sick shredding , mate !!! What brand guitar are you smacking there ? Comment from : @wesworach7441 |
lol - the orange crush 20 is so limited, sounds terrible to me, too (tryied is last week in a shop myself) Blackstart ID-Core does is still use boom-box-speakers? This list is indeed total BS let's be honest: this list is a commercial, not an article period Comment from : @deadcatforcutie9349 |
My favorites are the yamaha THR10X, really great one, you can do what you want with it, good sound for electro acoustics, bass, and great metal tones, but you've also got an excellent clean sound (that takes pedals really good) and you can also find really good crunch tones, respect your guitar tone The second one is the ibanez TSA15H with its ibanez speaker, excellent for pedals on clean tones and with an effect loop Don't own the harley benton tube 15, but on my wish list ! Blackstars sound too " dark " for me (speakers ?) Comment from : @stephane406 |
I have a Yamaha THR5 which I bought second hand for about 120 euros At that price I think it's brilliant However I would never pay the full retail price for the THR30 as that is insane for a practice amp, even a good one Comment from : @olafburgermann806 |
Please review mooer hornet 15 Comment from : @sankarthennarasi4766 |

The spider 5 got an updated firmware n it is usable Comment from : @jacobbockover1628 |

I think they decided to include Line 6 Catalyst because of the attenuator Comment from : @mohitrahaman |
I still think you fiddle to much on yout strat all the fiddling through the whole test, made me loose intressed Comment from : @marcoheerema5726 |
I have the original THR amp AND the newer THR10ii because Yamaha knows sound - they've been doing sound stuff for years in all forms Yes, you pay a little more, but in my mind you get what you pay for - period I can't gig anymore, but I still want quality sound, and Yamaha delivers If it was junk, I would have tossed out the the first amp years ago Yet it still sets on my desk, and it gets used Sometimes it's an argument about which amp to use that day lol Love your content Elmo, and thanks so much! Comment from : @rockerbuck967 |
Everything is about moneyHave you made a movie and want a good critic in a main paper?? Just pay for ityou are as good as how much you can pay Comment from : @eduardoallo8786 |
What's wrong with a 100 watt practice amps? I bought myself a training mustang gtx100 and am very pleased, lol But I did this because the kit comes with a footswitch and I also plan to play with a group, but this is not certain)brbrI actually don't need 100 watts right now, but they don't bother me at all Comment from : @LotmineRu |
The nux is a great amp tho, sounds alright, fully wireless and compact Comment from : @mahmam3128 |
I have D Kowalski Dark Gene It is the ultimate practice amp Half watt of glorious tube tone and the classic Marshall topology High quality circuit that is indestructible and easy to repair It responds to your playing and takes pedals just like a proper tube amp does Comment from : @demokraatti |
my first choice would be a 50 watt tube amp in either a large country estate or a condo/apartment with lots of sound proofing 🙂 Comment from : @earthsteward9 |
i have fender lt25 and i love it Comment from : @raysachs2397 |
Many thanks for this good and informing video My current personal favorite practice amp is the Harley Benton Tube 15 It has a 1 watt switch, it sounds good clean and slightly crunchy, and for more gain I use a pedal in front of the amp I compared the speaker of the Tube15C with two other speakers, and the stock speaker is ok The Tube15C can be used for practice at home, for band rehearsals (if the drummer is not too loud), for recording via microphone and for gigs with a PA and monitoring, so the ideal amp in my humble opinion in case a 50 watts valve amp would be overkill In case you need many different sounds and effect, a modelling amp probably is better, but in my case the Tube15 delivers all I need for practicing at home Comment from : @BBF3 |
For a moment I thought I was on the British channel Comment from : @donvape336 |
Very cool, helpful, and insightful video I just wanted to chime in as a beginner guitar player that I started with the Fender LT25 and moved to Boss Katana 50 The clean channel on the LT25 is awesome, but I found the effects and the preset system very frustrating to deal with I definitely understand the limitations in terms of sound and effects quality at the price point, that wasn't my issue, it was more so making adjustments or being able to a/b/c effects While the Boss Katana can be played much louder, I actually feel I'm able to control the volume with more precision than the LT25 and that presets and effects are much easier to manage It definitely seemed counter-intuitive starting out, I thought the LT25 would be much more beginner friendly given all the presets it comes with combine with its size/weight, its power, and so forth, it just didn't work out that way to me So anyone reading this that is a beginner it was pretty interesting (to me) how fast I went from "I'd rather not fiddle with a bunch of knobs" to "I want to use all the knobs!" Having a knob-heavy amp may look intimidating but you get use to playing with knobs really, really quickly re-reading that sentence I realize the sub-text but please let the record show this comment is intended as text-text Anyway, thanks for the heads up and product comparisons! Comment from : @dasninjastix |
I hate commenting… but here goes My 16yo has started playing guitar seriously… he has access to all my guitars ( not letting him use my pedals… not yet!) I’ve bought him a Katana mk2 100w Head! He can use it with headphones, and line in if he wants to play with music Will order a 2x12 soon if he wants to start gigs! If in a couple of years he goes for a better amp, he has a cab, and still an amp to practice at home on The Tone Studio opens up many amp models from the Roland and Boss catalog along with a ton of pedals Just my 2 cents… Comment from : @eoinc_Ire |
