Tube amp sound is so more rounder and richer, wow Comment from : @melomaniakjm |
EQ pedal Comment from : @thyreapermc5948 |
Tio difference on the video I could only imagine what it’s like in person Comment from : @Caughtitoutdoors |
Good 👍 Comment from : @stephengopalan1956 |
Sounds cool when overdubbing Comment from : @noel3422 |
valve amps are overrated, they belong to the past like many things in the guitar world that are still alive not because they are technologically worthwhile but because of 40-50 years old bands Are they good? yes 2000euro good? no Comment from : @NeueOrdnung |
You can hear the difference, and to be honest-in a love setting, the venue is going to color the sound, as wellbrbrI prefer the sound of tube, but either sound great in my opinion Comment from : @mjolnircarlssen4211 |
The tube amp sounded so musical and clean No unnecessary distortion noted in the tube amp Comment from : @wrsdes |
There's a huge difference in person If you can't hear the difference in person, you have bad ears Comment from : @didamnesia3575 |
Not a fair comparison Comment from : @JRPsych74 |
How is the champion 2 50 watt Comment from : @johnie19644 |
Throw the trans in the bin Buy ya self a fender black face twin reverb with a kick ass distortion Will blow anything off the stage It will teach u how to play Comment from : @Thelma-q3v |
I have a Champion 50XL solid state For $40, it was a no brainer I don't like the small print of the effects, especially when it's dark So hard to read! It's okay Comment from : @jazzdrumguy5044 |
Anything sounds good if you can play, but that champ sounds like a decent player on a pile of shit amp even at low volume It's not because it's solid state It's because it's a shitty amp Do that same test with a Roland Jazz Chorus or a Peavey Bandit, and Solid State sounds great Comment from : @jhvuvnik65s24 |
why use reverb when comparing!!!!! Comment from : @chaoscultus |
There is a huge difference between being in the same room with Marty doing this and listening to the clip through tiny monitor speakers, or even powered computer speakers Comment from : @azmike3572 |
If you want to gig, and I mean GIG on the regMake the investment You can mod things sure, you can find great deals, yesbut you cannot cheap up on this stuff I play a hot rod deville 1 and 4 and anything without tubes is simply not worth my time I own several guitars that are sub 100000 and some upgrades usually make them play great and all but my main stage instrument is a 9 million pound American Tele made of solid swamp ash and it ran me 120000 Biggest difference? I bought it in 2005 and its been to the shop twice Same thing goes for your ampnothing would destroy that solid state joke faster than a year of heavy gigging Make the investment if you're serious about gigging Comment from : @xvxchronoxvx |
Its fair to say that solid state is catching up even though it will never catch the tube but the difference is not as big as it was in the 90s Comment from : @JohnSmith-bx7hl |
What’s the song/ riff played at the very beginning? Comment from : @brywong93 |
Yep, The tubes shine, but I will make do with the 40 that I just ordered Comment from : @wannabegeek519 |
The difference in sound is obvious!!! Tube amp sounds much better and warmer Comment from : @Epiphone1978 |
damn that deville sounds so damn good Comment from : @RestnPepperonis |
5:54 what was that setting? Comment from : @switchbladeporter |
Thanks for making this video Marty You could make any amp sound good I love my Hotrod DeVille I wonder if you could get a better tone out of the Champ 40 with a better speaker? Comment from : @michaelluby5029 |
Champ sounds like shit! Tube all day Comment from : @larrywob5611 |
Yes you need tubes Absolutely Solid state is for beginners Especially with metal I have used axeFx in the studio but tubes are way better Plus you need like a million watts of solid state to compete with 50 watts of tube power Comment from : @MikeSmith-ey7ku |
Compare the two at Twang Clean Imitating an overdrive sound is not an art Comment from : @jmharrincourt2208 |
Thanks for the video Tube amplifier was betterI was wondering myself Comment from : @jasongivens7469 |
I got the Champ 40 on OfferUp with the Jensen MOD 12/70 8 OHM speaker in it and the dual button foot switch for $130 and it friggn kills Stock speaker blows Comment from : @BAND-MAID-USA |
I got a Fender 212 Solid State It does the work I kick a fuzz, it fuzzes I kick a delay, it delays I play clean, it’s - well - clean Loud af, $200 used, I’m a loud drummer and I hear my guitarist who I let borrow my gear I recommend 🤝 Comment from : @ncrtrooper1782 |
It's alot like the difference between listening to an album on a record player and playing the same one on a CD The champion 40 being the CD There's just not as much sound, the tube amp is much fuller Comment from : @brianmiller9926 |
Tube amps always gonna be better but what tube is in the amp is the matter of fact ? Haha Comment from : @CustomTaylor |
These Champion amps sound bvicious/b for the price! I played the Champion 100 today, and was bblown away/b at how cheap it was! Comment from : @Anjohl |
you can straight away hear the difference the tube had such a creamy and a rich tone sounded so much gravity in the tone, unlike the solid state which sounded really very digital Comment from : @AbhisekChakravorty |
While I only have a tube pre and solid state Marshall and a tube pre tonelab I’m here to tell you the tone of the champion was only about 30 of the deville If the tube amps didn’t weigh sobrMuch I would have one Or if the made a good lightweight tube with a DI I would use it Meanwhile the closest I get to that tone is with a Tech21 RK5 Comment from : @notacommie5415 |
Fender tube brPCBs are garbage I repaired many of them for vibration cracks on resistors Many twice I've built eyelet board amps which have never failed The solid state amps are totally different Very durable Comment from : @richardmerriam7044 |
I've been playing solid state Fender for several years This year I went back to a tube amp I would rather spend the money for a good tube amp Tube amps have soul solid state amps are just cheap imitations Comment from : @LRHutch |
Massive massive difference Comment from : @giovannifiorentini8295 |
There is no such thing as better or worse, just tone Both are excellent amps Plus 99 of ALL venues mic to PA's so loudness means nothing And most importantly, the audience does not give a flip what gear you use, they just care about the song and performance Just sayin' Blessings to you Marty and everyone in the comments Comment from : @chuckwagon7860 |
As a player of 30 years, can confirm tubes always sound better in every way: clarity, more organic, more weight to it brbrThat said — my back hates it They’re heavy And anyone watching the gig couldn’t tell OR care less In the amateur setting, all you need to achieve is to cut through the mix brbrI gig with solid state, but record with tube Comment from : @icevelvetzen |
You just sold me on a tube amp Comment from : @timbornone |
I have the champion 40 watt and I did some modifications to it ,like speaker change and extension jack for a larger cab connection I can tell you that it sounds nothing like my tube amp , but it's a good versatile amplifier It is a louder amp since I made the changes Good luck ! Comment from : @MarcCarriage121 |
I have a 1964 Fender Champ I also have a 2018 Fender Champion 20 I use the Champion 20 more Comment from : @jltrem |
Is it fair to make a comparison with a 60 watt valve amp vs such a small Fender solid stat amp? I thought not and although your videos are great in this instance I gave it a thumbs down Comment from : @colineaton6748 |
Wondering how well the Champion 40 takes effects pedals / multi fx pedals Comment from : @accentontheoff |
I got a Champion 40 only for playing at home, i changed the stock "Fender Special Design" speaker (which seems a bit cheap) to an Eminence Legend for better sound Imho the Champion 40 sounds best with an overdrive pedal into the clean channel, way better than the modeled amp gain at the voice knob which sounds a bit muddy Comment from : @Juno58 |
whats the title of the track Comment from : @alaindeleon2220 |
people are idiots, concentrating on brands rather than performance or reality you can pick up a Boss Katana or an all tube Laney for the cost of a big brand solid state throw some pedals in front of that Fender & listen to it scream trust me, i've wasted the money on tube amps, only to find out the solid states sound just as good, if not better the only difference is volume Comment from : @sebastian993 |
I've owned and played at least three Hot rods (all 2X12's) I've also played Marshalls (JCM 900's my preferred model), Crate V-50's, Egnator Rebels and Tweakers, Randalls, Peaveys, Blackstars, Mesas, coupla Boss Katanas and even a couple of Bugera tube amps Now I'm old and I don't think I'll be playing on stage anymore, so I see no reason that one of these won't do just fine for me Lightweight, reasonably good tone (this nextgen stuff sounds really close to the tube amps I'm accustomed to), and it's cheaper to own I think I'm gonna go with one Comment from : @Xrawkr |
I think you could’ve tweaked the champ to sound much better The volume was lower and the treble was flat To be fair to solid state, you could’ve picked a much better SS amp Comment from : @conartist267 |
Fender is for clean tones tubes Not necessary for clean, listen to first 4 Metallica albumsRoland jc120 for cleanand they were using a modded marshall Comment from : @corryburton9252 |
They need to make one still yet a tear lower than that, call it the Food Stamp Amp what's the food stamp amp you ask? it's the amp you can buy with Food Stamps Simple 🤷🚽🇺🇸 🏌️🍍 Comment from : @benwright6330 |
buy the tube amp and return the cheap one with all the Do Hickeys in its place, they won't notice I thing, I'm sure it'll be fine 🤷 🏌️🍍 Comment from : @benwright6330 |
dig your playin' and that guitar's eft up Perfect Comment from : @benwright6330 |
the thousand dollar amp sounds a thousand times better to My ears I'm just destined to be Poor I guess, sad really 🤷 🥺 Comment from : @benwright6330 |
that's a really sad song what your playing it sounds kind of like Hendrix sad what is it? Comment from : @benwright6330 |
tube for more, yes Comment from : @benwright6330 |
My bugera tube amp is pretty sick Comment from : @jasonclark9963 |
Fender Champion 100 Solid State Electric Guitar Amp 2x12" is a killer amp and half the price of the Princeton Reissue Comment from : @jeffparryncc1701 |
Such a big difference can’t even compare The de valle sounds so crispy Comment from : @gregpegel2080 |
You'll never get the high end glass or responsiveness out of solid state that you do with tubes Solid State is just flat as a thin pancake Comment from : @darkelive660 |
Yes tubes sound better but only if youre in a position to turn it up loud Otherwise, all the tone is coming out of transistor pedals which means its rly doesnt matter that much… a good solid state amp like a jc120 is an amazing pedal platform just like any deluxe and without being capable of cranking a tube amp youre missing the whole sound anyways On top of that high end solid state is v v underrated, and how they take pedals is pretty amazing acc U can also use tube driven od pedals and never have to pay for maintenance again… Comment from : @Coolbeans1492 |
Strat did not heavy metal😅 Comment from : @Ghost12561 |
Bottom line if you play a lot of pedals go hybrid or solid state if not play tube Comment from : @redeyeify |
When you are onstage with a valve amp containing ( 3 ECC 83 and 2 EL 34 valves ) you won't go far wrong with a good sound, solid state ? Is ok perhaps if you are sitting on your Arze at home, but for gigging it HAS to be valves, solid state amps cranked up will send your audience running for exits and demanding refunds, solid state generally ice picks your ears off, valve amps will be around for a very long time yet, spend your dollars on quality sounds Comment from : @Wooburnmusic |
I have several tube amps (Fender Blues Jr Tweed, Marshall DSL, Laney ) and transistor amps (Fender Princeton 112 Plus, Marshall V8080, Roland Cube 60 orange ) I've tested and compared the amps exhaustively (for Eric Clapton and Stones style) and I would say that tranzistor amps, typically in the drive channel, with drive at minimum (Fender) and at 38 (Marshall), sound as good as tube amps, especially if you use a drive pedal Comment from : @luizalbertokoehler4904 |
Yes , you will always know your SS amp will never sound like a tube amp and will ultimately buy 2 amps , just bite the bullet and get the tube amp Comment from : @jquill6 |
Great video The $200 amp sounded thin And when on heavy distortion it sounded muddy Comment from : @stuartkennedy4570 |
I’ve been trying to research a good quality cheap next level up amp almost bought this one at GC today can’t ignore horrible hiss sound 4:10 worsens 6:45 wish I could afford good gear love the devill Comment from : @mikeybags86gtr |
I gotta know what song Marty is playing here 😅 need help pls ? Comment from : @pequenohihi |
All I can hear is Yellow Ledbetter 🤟🏼 Comment from : @NachoSierra1 |
Well the valve amp seems to have a much more rounded tone After hearing the valve amp first, the solid state amp just lacks something Comment from : @bigbasil1908 |
Nowadays solid state amps sound very close to tube amps and are more reliable, plus built in effects Great playing and review as always Comment from : @metallion0738 |
That tube amp sounds amazing Comment from : @angelgarza3143 |
The Chanpion does not have a midrange control and the overall sound is rather muddy No shimmer I augment mine with pedals I have 2 new Katana MK II amps and they both shine, one a 50W the other the 100W Marty has great videos on his Katana One new amp that I would not recommend are the Marshall SS I bought one new after 'good YT reviews' The chorus stays on, presets have nasal hiss and the clean channel is far from clean Marty did a great job And his playing My tip-go for the Katana-hands down Comment from : @riffdigger2133 |
the audience would not hear the difference ! Comment from : @wolfgang4078 |
I have a Champion 100 that I just picked up on sale I also own a Bugera V22 among other amps I haven’t touched my V22 in a couple weeks since picking up my 100 But I have actually played on my Line6, strange enough Comment from : @22CranialRadio |
How can you say a comparison is between the amplification device when almost every other component of the two amplifiers is different? Comment from : @mdhj67 |
KWS yes! Comment from : @bobdaniel5367 |
Tube all the way! 🤪🤘 Comment from : @ninteyninenightmares1564 |
to me, huge difference in sound tube amp is the way to go Comment from : @showspotter |
The devile sounds better I have a Champ 100 I bought hardly used from a kid for 20000 mommy and daddy bought it for him Comment from : @kentwalley1207 |
The Deville sounded way better Comment from : @gregputman |
Can hear the difference when you first chuck the chord Comment from : @MOTIVATIONINSIDES |
the fender champion 40watts amplifier is a shitty amplifier Comment from : @mauricewhite1162 |
the first song you play what is the name of the song ?? Comment from : @thexlaunchpad5929 |
I unfortunately sold a Fender 75 amp , 1980 Big beast of a 15-in speaker I finally replaced it with a Champion 40 Actually no I didn't can't even compare I want my TUBEbr 75 back Comment from : @drifterman319 |
