Vox VX15 GT vs Boss Katana Mini, which is better? Comment from : @chewssday |
I have both thr30ii and hotone pulze I find the thr to have more acoustic and "natural" sound and you can dial the tones you want easier The hotone on the other hand has much more bass responce and has many more tone shaping capabilities, but it lacks the high fidelity of the the thr In conclusion the thr is better for clean and crunch sounds and the hotone is better for distorted sounds (more focused on low and lower mid frequencies) Have in mind that the hotone doesn't have a battery or wireless guitar transmiter feature They are both well crafted devices Comment from : @mikesym_ |
Actually, good sir, I'm afraid I must register my vehement disagreement with your opinion!brbrbrbrbrbrbrThat was actually a pretty good imitation of a seagull Comment from : @echocollectors |
Being unable to record directly from my Spark MINI to my PC, The lack of spring reverb emulation AND the fact THAT THE AUDIO INPUT HAS LATENCY is a such a stupid desicion,(sheesh) wish I could sell mine Comment from : @yogimastul2 |
What about Frontman 15G? Even 💩💩💩💩💩? I believe I have practicing with my Strat more unplugged than plugged into it! 🤐 What a joy it isn't Comment from : @MrPinkfloydian |

I looked for a micro cube today In Germany this things go for 150€ I found one in gb for round 50£ but ad shipping and tax etc you’re roughly equal to 150€ But you’re right if you get one for round 50€ it’s a steal Comment from : @haikorudigr3818 |
Like all modern day YT'rs just out to make a buck running affiliation links hard to buy into anything the person is sellingbrI watched another YT'r they said in a blindfold the Voxtronic was the best practice amp but this dude is not going to actually test them all instead just get in some affiliation linksbrEveryone is selling something a course a sponsor affiliation links click here click there make me $$$$I need to see integrity people actually SHARING information that is non biased actually trying to help others and not just out to make a buck Comment from : @galkanftw |
a good practice amp needs enough gain that an overdrive pedal isnt necessary for metal in my opinion you shouldn't need pedals im just trying to practice my technique not mess with pedals Comment from : @obsidiancrow450 |
I still use a 'new' looking old Roland Cube 40 XL ! It has that Power Squeezer button to tame it for home usebrOtherwise it's attenuator and Marshalls for me !brThank youbrOhbrThe Marshall CODE updated it's Firmware and App in 2022 and improved a lot ! Comment from : @StratsRUs |
I tried the Hotone in the store and was pleasently surprised by how good it sounded, but thought it was a bit expensive, but when I found a B-stock on Thoman I had to get it Some of the models sounds like how you expect a small modelling amp to sound (bad) but some are amazing and make you think you can sell all your other gear Not sure if I will keep it though, not a fan of the display, i would prefer physical knobs like the spark has I have not tried the Spark so don't know how they compare sound-wise The original spark 40 isn't much more expensive than the mini so I'm tempted to switch the Hotone for the Spark 40, but afraid it doesn't sound as good Comment from : @atlejohnnyrygg7124 |
Have you ever tested the Bugera BC15 for a practice amp? I greatly appreciate your honest reviews I never plan to play any gigs I just want a good quality amp that will grow with my progress Comment from : @okstatefan73 |

🤘🍻🤘 Comment from : @forrestcrabbe |
Hi 😊 What about fender champion 2 / 25 ? Comment from : @joelpenazzo7248 |
After looking at far too many reviews, trying far too many amps, losing far too much money along the way, something clicked in my brain and presto, I’ve entered Jazz sound Walhalla I just connect the earphone output of my Fender Mustang Micro to a Sangean U4 (a fairly simple ‘builders’ radio) and that’s it The versatility of the little Fender (amp modelling, effects) gives me plenty to experiment with and the (brilliant!) Sangean has totally acceptable sound for home use (not forgetting FM, DAB, blue tooth connectivity etc) And if necessary it all works on batteries if you want And I’m fine without all the overhyped app-tweeking So I’m not falling for the commercial traps set by amp manufacturers again brMaybe I’ll change my mind when I start gigging, but that’s a highly unlikely scenariobrbrWould love to see someone showing this solution on youtube Comment from : @HaErBeSo |
Man, I really dislike a scalloped fingerboard It freaks me out kinda like those people who get phobia from looking at honeycomb holes photoshopped on people’s faces Comment from : @ljtowers5161 |
They all sound top-quality to me—as good as an expensive amp It's down to the guitar player's technical skill and the software the mic is run through Comment from : @ShaunOGX |
I just noticed, you never mentioned the much-vaunted Vox Pathfinder 15r Have you ever played through one of them? Comment from : @DerpRulesAll |
Worst amps ever mentioned in this video: Marshall and Fendergo figure! maybe having a name is not enough in the real world Comment from : @cheesefrogsnail |
If I love the Roland Micro Cube (particularly the clean tone), but am having trouble finding one in good condition at a good price, what should I get? Or, put another way, what's the modern equivalent of Roland Micro Cube with a comparable clean tone? Comment from : @mtnseasky |
Thanks for rankings at the end Comment from : @skye7690 |
I have to mention the Yamaha Thr30ii Such a great sounding portable amp and it's so quiet with no background noise Great harmonics and tones! Comment from : @ForrestWest |
This man can make a tupperware container sound great Comment from : @TwistedIdentity |
The problem with this list is it doesn’t take into consideration the people who are not paying 250 for an amp or doesn’t take in consideration the used market I got 2 practice amps for 150 combined 1 a vox vt30 and I got it for 50 bucks and it’s a hybrid amp and I got a boss katana 50 mk1 for 100 even at 150 bucks “what I usually see them sell at” it’s a great deal but the issue with the katana series is there’s no real repairs you can do is the electronics go bad they’ll just tell you to buy a whole new amp Comment from : @mondragonmsaul308 |
That sounds awesome 😀 Comment from : @whiteroom2773 |
I got a Spark Mini last year That thing is awesome Comment from : @ericshell1195 |
I just think its weird that you say the Boss Katana Mini is good but the Boss Katana gen 3 that you reviewed was not good at all sounding plasticy? Comment from : @GabrielSkolderblad |
nice honest reviews Thank you! Comment from : @davidzumbrun |
The "harley benton" i have in the states its called the "stage right"great amp for $200 is what paidrarely ever play it on 15w but it can play with a drummer om 15wits loud for so smallhas a celesion speaker Comment from : @Jeremya74 |

I have the Tube 15, V5, and the Fly with the extension cab Tube 15 can really crank V5 is a bit muddy with him buckers but I have a cheap EQ pedal that I use on it Fly is impressive for what it is also Comment from : @MrMark1325 |
Black star sound like Marshall rejects how can anything beat the original and best rock amp ever made the 100watt Marshall head and cabinet it will look after you for decades on and off the road And I know it’s not really a small practice amp but Ive used mine at home for years and it’s good because I actually practice in my bedroom and write songs on the amp I play live Comment from : @Rob_who |
apartment living for the first time and i can hear my upstairs neighbor breathing as i watch this trying to be considerate lol Comment from : @denyel_ |
I have the spark mini and it is very portable and sounds niceBut it does not sound as good as the Harley Benton I also own an Epiphone valve junior head and cab and that is ridiculously loud at only watts but only has one control knob which happens to be volume, thus making it very restricted The Harley Benton tube 15 seems to blow it away in terms of tone Which speaker would you recommend as a really good replacement for the chinese stock celestion in the Harley? Comment from : @pauljohnson3686 |
Can you review the Roland JS 22 amp Comment from : @RFV1962 |
Lol, i sucked in nair through my teeth when u mentioned the price of the first one, Comment from : @oldmanandguitar |
Ok I did it, bought a cube, its brilliant! thanks for the advice Elmo! Comment from : @andrewking7919 |
That spark mini sound awesome wtf? Comment from : @CptSlow89 |
I couldn’t believe how good the Katana Mini sounded for its price and size when I bought one Comment from : @sigiligus |
I just trusted the guy in the store and bought the one he recommended me It's a Nu-X Mighty 20 mkII I am a brand new beginner so I dont know if its a good one or not Sounds fine to me But they all sound fine to me lol Comment from : @PlagueKing_LordFalix |
VOX Mini 3 G2 Small, light weight, cute looking, packed with features, compression, multiple fx types, multiple amp models, sounds massive for its size, plus runs on batteries Hands down the best pawn shop impulse buy I ever made, Awesome Comment from : @martinheath5947 |
I still troll pawn shops, Craigslist, and reverb local listings for 80s and 90s peavey audition and backstage amps Comment from : @mysteryshrimp |
My eldest uses a fly for quick practice at home, also have one at the caravan for quick blasts Comment from : @portland573 |
Nothing today comes close to a Vox DA Comment from : @bennettmichaels4309 |
Nux mighty 8 BT mkll Comment from : @ronhoffman7941 |
I miss my micro cube Bought one after i had a cheap silvertone amp Haha Upgraded the Roland amp to a bigger size, discontinued model as well Comment from : @funeralpyre616 |
I have the Micro Cube and the Katana Mini, got them both used for not much money Lovely little things, with lots of sound options Comment from : @MravacKid |
What speaker would you recommend to swap to for the Harley Benten? Comment from : @h4ppydr4gon |
Laney Mini STB, súper small and does well the job Has a good 70,s Hard Rock type of sound Has Delay and Bluetooth incorporated brCosts 80€ brWhat can you get for that money!!!brGive it a go Comment from : @guaranaibiza6310 |
Thanks for the video Please make a list of amps that is good for home practice as well as for small gigs? Comment from : @accentontheoff |
I've got my Peavey Rage from the late 80's Comment from : @CitizenofMelee |
HB20R simply fantastic it puts my Custom and the other one a beloved brittish icon forgotten its name as I dislike it but hey I got in an deal but anyway a lot stronger amps at shame Comment from : @stevepelham9010 |
Cool Les Paul Comment from : @bradconklin2878 |
I am new to the topic of amplifiers, I have seen several channels This seems the most reliable to me Now I feel comfortable choosing my second amp Thank you!!! Comment from : @Nanook19801 |
What amp takes pedals best? Comment from : @tomjoad8939 |
Positive Grid is killing it I have the Spark Go for ultra compact practice sessions and it’s so surprisingly good It shocks me every time I play it Love their app features too Comment from : @MotoMatt418 |
I bought a Bugera V5 and changed the speaker to an Eminence 820h Patriot Series and changed the tubes to Genalex Gold Lion 12AX7 / EL84 Amazing Amp Now ! Comment from : @bxsoup |
I like those Spark amps but Katana is my go to Amp ! Comment from : @Sigma77-n2u |
Elmo, is that a ziltoid on top of the vox? Comment from : @nikkiduncan9209 |
I've had the Katana mini since its release and it is an absolute beast I still can't believe how good it sounds even being so small Being completely analog (apart from the delay I think) also makes it very friendly with pedals brI'm modding mine to make it connectable to a broader speaker, and from what I've seen in videos, it turns this small practice amp into an even more unbelievable beast Comment from : @fabioragone22 |
Fly 3 is likely my most used amp, travelled with me twice when moving countries, sounds well enough for me to bring to hotels and places I want to practice, battery lasts forever and sounds quite good for its size (specially when paired with the second speaker, which makes it 6w and stereo) Even at home when I'm playing the big boys, Fly 3 is my regular computer speakers when watching youtube or things like that just because at any point I can pick the guitar and jam along from the same sound source Such a great tiny amp! Comment from : @alexcampos7953 |
What do you say about the Line 6 Spider V 30W? Is it a good option? Comment from : @nokg9483 |
The best PRACTICE amp, that will be a game-changer with pretty useful Ai features, built in jamming sessions that you can play along with , drum machines, long looper recording with several tracks and a lot of other awesome practice features that almost none (If any) of these other "practice" amps has is the new Positive Grid SPARK 2 50Watt, and it will change how people practice and speed along the process brbrIt now also comes with the option to add a 12 hour rechargeable battery-pack What other amps can play at 50Watts outside, fully wireless on battery while recording loops and making songs on the fly to built in jamming sessions or drumbeats ? Answer is I can not find another amp that can do all these great practice features and at the same time sound so awesome and play that loudbrbrIt also has a new better built in sound card so that you can plug it into your computer and use it as an external sound card to record and stuff, great all in one solution that is really worthy the PRACTICE description since it actually can & will help you practice in new, fun and more effective ways Comment from : @mathias6423 |
I'm not sure how a review like this can be in any way objective or helpful if you use different kinds of guitars and don't compare set pieces & styles to one another Comment from : @griffgriffiths9982 |
My mistake Black Star ID Core 3 10 watt Comment from : @michaeldavies7364 |
How do you rate the Black star ID Core 3 19 watt Comment from : @michaeldavies7364 |
No THR? Comment from : @rondahlquist9881 |
What pickups are in that Strat if you don’t mind? Comment from : @mblueser3770 |
I have the Marshall DSL1CR and the Bugera V5 in my practice room, in my bedroom I have an Orange Crush 12 and the Boss Katana Mini and the Blackstar Fly 3 I like the Crush 12 a lot, the 6 inch speaker sounds fine at bedroom volumes Comment from : @markmcdonald5711 |
NUX Mighty Lite BT maybe? Same size as Blackstar Fly, but I think it sounds a little better and has more options You can edit the sound via a Bluetooth phone app Comment from : @mandolinic |
Elmo, does the Blackstar Fly Mini cover up mistakes more than the Roland Micro Cube or are they about the same for exposing weaknesses in playing? Very good info on your channel btw Comment from : @billstraub7860 |
Roland JC40 is my favourite for practice Comment from : @paulgee6111 |
Guy why you don’t mention any Voxes? They are super versatile especially the Modeling stuff An AC4 or 10 would be also a very good practice amp Comment from : @ElysiumGuardian96 |
I have a Spark Mini in my van and it has everything in that package for practising, especially all the AI stuff in the app for learning songs etc Comment from : @GregRickard |
I firmly believe your practice rig should be the same as your recording rig and your live rig, so it should be able to replicate your tone for all situations Otherwise, you will waste so much time trying replicate your tone across the different rigsbrbrPersonally, I use a BOSS Katana Artist Mk2 for all situations Comment from : @kevinmcguinness1113 |
I agreed, I own many practice amps ( home, dressroom, hotel etc) my go to right now is the Spark mini, is really tiny, works good for listen music and sound awesome in every style I used to travel with the Yamaha Green one ( i dont remember the model) and was great too And of course you can´t go wrong with a micro cube All the others i dont know, maybe are great Comment from : @antoniosober666 |
My first amp was little Crate I played on it a lot It wasn't anything fancy but it never broke which I really appreciate Comment from : @aspirativemusicproduction2135 |
Avoid Peavey Vypyr You will regret it just like I did As soon as the warranty expired it stoped working I didn't ever plug it in a computer to avoid them from remotely stopping it but the obsolescence was just built into it I felt so cheated And it isn't buit very well neither Also any Spider It looks like it's built like a tank but it's not going to last too long Comment from : @aspirativemusicproduction2135 |
I am using Roland Cube X30 lately I found it second hand for $50 Not bad for the price and all the parts are working I like the metal setting on it because the rest are not too good but for an amp that doesn't break your back and the bank and it's portable enough and you can plug some little drum machine in for practice it's just fine Comment from : @aspirativemusicproduction2135 |
Disappointed and surprised not to see the Park G10R and the Peavey Bandit Those are two brilliant practice amps that can still hold thier own against any non modelling amp today Comment from : @tussk |
The amp I've been using the past 45 years is the Dan Electro HoneyTone mini-amp When I bought this new it was $20, maybe $22 Doesn't sound like it though Sounds fantastic, as a bedroom amp anyway Although I say "bedroom" with major asterisks because it can get real loud even with master not even half-way (as my often annoyed brother will tell you) It is the bare minimum basics in an amp---1 volume (master) knob, 1 gain/distortion knob, and 1 tone knob (low/mid/high) I love it Comment from : @UnchainedEruption |
DO NOT BUY Blackstar ID Core Beam It has a circuit board that burns out anytime within a year of normal use Blackstar provides no help and don't know or acknowledge the problem I went to a shop that repairs amps and as soon as I explained it, the tech knew exactly what it was and told me it is a big problem with many Blackstar amps Blackstar customer service is in the UK and nobody knows what they are doing The only thing they all tell you is maybe it is a firmware problem and try updating Blackstar never again Comment from : @magic2506 |
I have the Spark Mini, and really it's amazing Great sound(s) Change the sounds in a heart beat with the app Also have an old Fender Mustang LT25, which just ok in comparison, but still a good practice amp and easy to use Comment from : @ranradd |
Don't get anything less than 20 watts, you will not get the sound you want Most 30 watt amps will do the trick I have tried many from that stupid little Marshall and Pignose to Fender 100 watt w/ 4x12s Comment from : @RPSchonherr |
Spark mini was leaps and bounds above all the others Comment from : @Abduzzah_Abd_al-Muṭṭalib |
