There is a 16ohm safety load engaged when the TAE doesn't have power Hopefully you figured it all out regardless!

I just borrowed one from a friend of mine I messed with it for about an hour and shut everything off and unplugged my speaker cable from it About 2 hours later I went back to work on getting a good sound so I turned it on felt around back to plug my speaker cable in plugged it in hit a chord and saw smokeI shut everything off real quick “ when I plugged my speaker cable back in I plugged it into the headphone jack instead FRIED it…now I’ll have to buy a new one to replace it $1300 bucks I don’t have

If it was off, u must have fooked the amp also, unless it went through a cabinet also But why the TAE and a cabinet at same time? My condolences mannnndamn that must have hurted :)

That’s a tragedy The tube amp expander is extremely expensive here in Australia

Add a power-through circuit to your expander so that you plug your amp power into the back of the expander, both powered from one power outlet

I was considering this unit and read through the manual before doing the investment several times I never understood why the reactive load is not working with the power not on and considered this always as a design flawbrbrClearly one has to be careful wiring up a rig with a load box involved A lot can go wrong putting your amp at danger (actually more the amp than the load box) However none of the load boxes/attenuators I use instead of the TAE require to be powered on for "showing" the load to the amp For me this is a no-go and a very significant design flaw of the TAE Boss can write as much as they want into their manuals in regard to Do-s and Don't-s, but what happened to you should have been prevented by design!
