real amp Comment from : @mattsawmiller3277 |

Why not both? I have a di box split my signal into two I have one signal going to a real tube amp on stage for that great pushed air feeling The other signal goes to a modeler to the front of house PA system I can have awesome stage sound with a great modeler impulse response captured by a sound engineer Everyone always argues, but I see very few using both besides Rabea Massaad I forgot to mention that you’re not stuck with a particular tone when using plugins You can constantly tweak it after recording it Sure, you can re-amp something with a tube amp, but it’s significantly more tedious Comment from : @Comoguitargeek |

So That is why Metallica's new performances sound like Shit got it Comment from : @ddroz23 |
Amp sim sounds thinner Comment from : @OvidiuBolocan |
Real amp all the way up sounds great Comment from : @HugoMejia-i3b |
Real amp Comment from : @lavagander6986 |

Which amp simulator is that? Comment from : @DM-lv7tl |
What amp sim is he using? Comment from : @ignacio1818 |

I’m a pianist/ keyboardist primarily, but when I do put down guitar tracks the Line6 FX 100 fits into the mix perfectly Not saying that it would work as well for live situations (since I only do studio), but it fills the bill nicely for my applications Comment from : @kurtfroberg3608 |
Real amp sounded airy and had a punchier ambience to it for cleans Comment from : @wajikhantv |
I think the amp sounds still clears pretty significantly on this one Comment from : @marcolucchin9391 |
AMP always Comment from : @facunditobarra777 |
Sims are a great tool, but they aren't perfect They always seem to be missing some high-end information in them But in a mix, I doubt most people could tell Certainly not non-musicians Comment from : @masterofreality230 |
I just enjoy having a physical amp It’s not always about tone for me Comment from : @rkturn7393 |
We are close And even acceptable But clean tones are lacking a bit off life The biggest short coming being spring verb emulations A few more years and we will superior in all ways Comment from : @TyrannyInOil |
Hard to tell the difference to be honest 👍😎 Comment from : @andrewharris6347 |

My Deluxe Reverb doesn’t require firmware updates Comment from : @vox1962 |

amp Comment from : @exactasa |
its a good question, im 50 so im old school, I prefer real gears Comment from : @bobayersquebec |
My personal viewpoint is I cant tell a difference on youtube, also a huge stadium band using fractal or something similar i probably couldn’t tell either… but for me personally performing in a small venue, I LOVE using a valve amp I even love seeing a good old Marshall Stack… I also don’t have a problem with guitarists who prefer amp modelling brbrMost of the people who get upset with me using a half stack Marshall or combo are always guitarists though which I believe is silly brbrLive & let live i say ! Comment from : @keviniverson |
Sim was thin sounding Not enough lower mids Comment from : @chevalij |
Real amp sounded real fake amo sounded fake Comment from : @doormasterjohn |
Thinking about the difference between looking at a real aquarium vs watching a high def digital video of an aquarium on a flat screen tv… both are fine, but with the real aquarium the side view and top view are way more interesting than those viewing angles of the flat screen tv brGuess I’m the only Boomer watching this video and reading the comments… Comment from : @vincerusso5619 |
Neither Comment from : @haysfordays |
How much delay / latency is there on the sim, in a live show for example? Comment from : @Angzarrr |
Emulation was notably thinner Real amp had more dimension to it Comment from : @Joshurami |
none of my emulators taker other pedals the same way that a real amp does as soon as you add a fuzz pedal it gets weird Comment from : @japmn1 |
The VST sounded warmer, less "brilliant" (as in, less treble), but the real one had a bit more high end, which resulted in higher definition Both are good tones though For me, it depends on the character of the tone I am after, and the application Its much easier to record a tone using VSTs, even if you were using a re-amp box with a real amp, and VSTs still sound convincing That said, for smaller live gig, I'll gladly use a real amp instead, unless I want the digital character of a modeler (which is valid) Comment from : @hippyhobo6285 |
Real amp still to me sounds more natural but I'm not against amp sims, I'm just more used to real amps since that's what I've always used Comment from : @originalmusicandfilmakers5657 |
Emulation Comment from : @javierguajardo1760 |
The higher notes sounded better on the amp demo to me Comment from : @fredrodnick2881 |
Might sound as good but doesn't feel as good to play through Comment from : @mgrgin |
A sim can sound as close as you want but will never feel the same under your fingers verses cranked up tubes Comment from : @gibs8412 |
amp pero es muuuuuy muuuy similar y creo 1000 veces mas practico para llevar a algun lugar lo digital Comment from : @GUITARRACHIRI |
But do you feeeeeel the difference😂 Comment from : @calebriley7466 |
I like touching knobs and filling up a room with fun stuff But there is no meaningful difference Comment from : @78thandSynth |
I like the amp better but 999 of people won’t be able to tell the difference Comment from : @User74757-c |
There’s little point trying to do a tone comparison of such nuance through YouTube audio The only time a guitarist should try to make this kind of decision is playing the two for themselves side by side in the same room Comment from : @davidburke2132 |
Maybe if you did that blind style it would be more unbiasedbrBut i imagine depth and more tactile response from the real amp Comment from : @808stevan |
The real one It sounds real Comment from : @declancurthoys9460 |
Number 1 Comment from : @johnpick8336 |
That amp sim maybe it’s quieter but it didn’t sound as good personally Idk I use amp sims but the feels off a real amp nothing beats the speakers and I know even running a digital pedal into an analog preamp just gives it a feel Comment from : @micktheman6 |
I like the one with toan! Comment from : @BeforeAndAfterScience |

R e al amp Comment from : @jeffley2523 |

Amp sims are sick now for sure But the amp sounded way better in this instance Comment from : @vdchile27 |
Sims are NOT THERE YET They just aren’t Comment from : @wintersmill4853 |
Amp Comment from : @strangemalcolm1509 |
dont care If you have it, use it Play well, it will sound good Comment from : @irawangani1 |
I think it doesn't matter because the magic is in the player's hands Comment from : @Squirrel-i6u |
First Comment from : @sabpaj2824 |
A lot of programs have mic placement options as well I have not used a mic on a cab since discovering amp sims they just work Comment from : @themixmasterdylanshow247 |
Not equal if you want feedback also volume has a large effect on many things sims are fine but still very lacking in what makes things exciting As someone who has recorded for decades using all the stuff it isn't there yet Comment from : @morbidmanmusic |
BS guitar playing Comment from : @JohnAkweiECMpERMp |
The important difference between the two approaches can be heard on rhythm guitar parts The moving air coming from a real speaker hits the mic in such a way that the chug or the boom sounds like it hits you in the chest And currently at this point , amp simulators can’t simulate this for some reason Therefore, at least with regards for rhythm recordings ,I think amp is best, but for lead guitar, both of them are close enough Comment from : @TheCrimsonCurtains |
Don’t like front of house Someone besides you is controlling your entire output Comment from : @edwinwise6751 |
Amps make noisebrNo one uses real amps in big showsbrKemper modelers are nearly ubiquitous in stadium rock, metal and country Comment from : @TheSamknu |
Both sound great! Comment from : @kvp4862 |
Real sound fuller Comment from : @varanidfury8634 |
Most amp emulators already provide the ability to "move the mic" Comment from : @SamBrockmann |
10000 real amp🎉 Comment from : @libturdfanai |
The presence and dimension of the mic’d amp is unquestionable in comparison with the emulated amp, which sounds two dimensional, flat and even cheap in comparison - at least in this test ! Comment from : @PandaThiefChannel |
i feel like there’s some imperfections in the presence of the amp which kind of adds some realness (for me anyways) but the sim is definitely clearerbrsituational uses ig 🤷♀️ Comment from : @jessinsurfgreen4964 |
I use modeling exclusively, but the real amp sounds better here It has a tight growling depth in its lows and a crisp glassiness in its highs that the sim lacks Comment from : @400_billion_suns |
The amp sounds better Comment from : @tthreepo4291 |
If you're recording it's indistinguishable if you have the right gear For playing live you still need amplification, so have to run your modeler into a FRFR, or FOH, or IEM's An amp you just plug in and start wailing 😀 Comment from : @rigorhead01 |
Amps sound better in person, but the reality is, modern IR will always sound better for large-scale entertainment, unless the artist is playing live from in studio 😂 Comment from : @jakenuno9900 |
Not a fair comparison Should have turned the drive up or boosted the decibels on the emulated example Comment from : @Ty-138 |
Sim is missing the high end shimmer Comment from : @astronorthwet636 |
Nah I’ll still take a huge three stack of Marshall super 100s👌 Comment from : @sebby533 |
I think I liked the plugin Comment from : @lilbigmanrecords1708 |
The second one might be smotther, but it's the settings Comment from : @davidcole5183 |
I will say in most of the venues we play, it is so much harder to get an amp sim to sit in the mix well We use a fender hot rod which pretty much always sits nicely in the mix You really need to know how to EQ though to get the most out of the Strymon iridium which we also use live sometimes Comment from : @oisinfitzgerald5401 |
I wouldn't be able to say which is which, if you don't tell me But the first one had bit more fine distortion and had more dinamic range I could hear soft and loud as you played But both sounds good Comment from : @dowalt |
The amp Not too good of explainig why, but the amp had a better tone to me Comment from : @Einungbrekke |
Amp Comment from : @luckysevensAltRock8 |
104 of people that prefer the real one shouldn't recognize the difference in a true blind test Comment from : @AlessandroRorato |
First one Real amp No contestbrbrMore air, mike placement will change it a hundred ways A sim, all your hear is a Fender Stratocaster; a real amp, you hear Fender guitar and a Fender ampbrbrAnd, I'm sorry, but it's not fair to note Metallica or Phish - they aren't bands concerned with "guitar tone" I have nothing g but respect for Tim Henson; but what he's doing isn't relevant to "guitar tone" bands - that's not what he's looking forin fact, most up and coming guitarists probably aren't inspired by guitarists who's whole career was devoted to guitar tone, analog or otherwise Plus, they're most likely not even going to load an amp or carry one around Not harshing, it's just a fact It's a different world - they are concerned other stuff than "how to maximize" the sound of a electric guitar Comment from : @zombiewooof |
You should do a blind test I dont know if i am being biased, but the amp sounds much better to me Comment from : @js78910 |
Amp Comment from : @ficknoti |
2, the sim, would turn me off from wanting to play my guitar, and 1 gets me excited for it and everything coming next from that amp Comment from : @JaiceyLynnWins |
The real amp sounded much better Comment from : @ajcohen100 |
depends on how you set up the amp brsimulation Comment from : @gigspigs |
You can change the mic and it's position in emulation too Comment from : @NicoBellisarioMusic |
Amp all day long Comment from : @arranmaz |
