So when these models came out I was fortunate enough to start a new job, so I rewarded myself by buying the bone stock double binned 14" M1 Pro model, thinking that I was going to end up returning it and custom ordering one I didn't even upgrade the charger Well 3 years later, it's held up incredibly well This thing has been through the ringer: it's been a Unity dev machine, an Unreal 5 internal tools development machine, a video editing machine, and now I do 80 of my game engine's development work (engine AND editor) on this machine I upgraded from a 2018 15" MacBook Pro that thermal throttled if you looked at it funny This machine smoked that, it smoked my trash can Mac Pro, and still continues to smoke my desktop i9 Even with a work provided 16" M3 Max I still don't find myself missing anything on this model Plus battery life has been superb, but sadly i'm now at 88 capacity left with a little over 250 cycles

You’re right, I initially had the 10-core cpu, 16gb ram, 512 ssd, though switched to 8-core cpu, 32gb ram, 1tb ssd Seems to work much better (for me)

I do the same export test with my base M2 Pro , but also more complex (4k timeline 5 min from GH5 camera with luts, various effects, transitions, flare, speed ramp, 180 fps, 60fps) in faster encode "computer" (like your) , 237 min With M1 Pro 8-core and 10-core, 255 min So, with base M2 Pro you have better performance of M1 Pro 10-core, at a significantly lower price (as Luke Miani also demonstrated)

So I use a DAW called Reaper I just record vocals with some plug ins and I plan on making vocal cover videos I’m still unsure if I should save money and go with an M1 Pro MBP or get the M2 pro MBP and how much ram to get for either one…anybody have any recommendations??

Anyone know of a review or metric that talks about using data analysis tools and if upgrading between the 8 core and the 10 core is worth it in those terms? ie I have 1,000,000 brrows of data will I want to throw the 8 core into on coming traffic and get the 10 core

The difference in Logic is quite significant I have to say! More than I expected brThat said, I think the binned one will serve me well for music production It is rare to find such a CPU heavy session So I prefer to put the money towards 32GB of RAM to let sampled instruments perform better

I use after effects, photoshop, illustrator, final cut pro and I do not know what model i should get because I have seen people testing the base model of the 14 inch and they say they regretted not upgrading the RAM from 16 gb to 32gb and also I am not sure if i should upgrade the gpu and CPU from the base model SOMEONE HELP ME ( i use mainly aftereffects for animation)

Great video I am about to buy and while i know 16GB ram and M1 Pro are showing very similar results i wonder how much of this is down to developers not having time for optimization before everyone rushes to be the first one out with benchmarks results After Effects for example ran horrible on day one of the release of these laptops, Adobe released an update and it made a big difference When people do benchmarks on day one, obviously not many apps out there that have had a chance to optimize Do you think 16GB ram with Pro 10 core CPU 16GB GPU would be enough if creating proxies for fusion in resolve or doing masking in final cut?

Binned/unbinned? What do you mean by that? I didn't know the term, so l looked it up and learned the term CAN refer simply to the quality control/inspection process that finds flaws and repurposes sections of the wafer into various types of chips as needed In this sense, all chips are binned—inspected and sorted How are you using the term?

The problem with binned model is, in my mind, I know it's a less quality chip that's defective in some way that Apple disables some of the cores The M1 Pro is designed with 10-core CPU and 16-core GPU, so it should be

eh if I'm spending all this money on a new laptop, I get not getting the max, don't need it, and don't need the graphics upgrade really since it's so small unless you go to the max, but the cpu upgrade makes sense 20 faster seems pretty worth it
