32 GB will allow the ssd to last longer VS 16GB puts more stress and could cost more in long run if you are running lots of programs Comment from : @theronwinsby |
That was a really useful video thanks Comment from : @revanslacey |
I’m not purchasing extra RAM for more speed I’m purchasing more RAM to limit swapping Comment from : @Fred_the_Head |

So I've just ordered a m2 pro 16gn RAM and 512ssd Using external drives for photo storage but after reading threads online, some are suggesting that it may not be enough I can't imagine why I'm using a lenovo c940 i5 8gb ram 😂 and it does ok Comment from : @truebro77 |
M1Pro still the best event M3Pro already come out Comment from : @djnandozsunshine |

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:brbr00:00 💰 *The video compares the performance of a 16GB and a 32GB variant of the M1 MacBook Pro to determine if spending an extra $400 for more RAM is worth it *br08:48 🖥️ bMultiple resource-intensive applications including Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop and Final Cut were simultaneously opened on both machines, showing minimal differences in response times/bbr10:14 🎥 bWith several tabs open in Chrome, all programs still functioned perfectly without the need to reload any tabs, showing the strength of the Unified Memory in these machines/bbr12:58 🖨️ *Both machines were further pushed to their limits with an Xcode build in the background The 32GB variant was 19 faster, but this difference is only significant for extremely heavy multitasking *br18:25 📌 *In conclusion, there is little performance difference, even under heavy multitasking loads between the 16GB and 32GB models The 16GB model is deemed sufficient for most users, with the extra $400 better invested in increased SSD storage *br19:16 🔄 bThe endurance of the SSDs was discussed and it was also pointed out that doubling SSD capacity also doubles the durability of the SSD in terms of its write capacity/bbrbrMade with HARPA AI Comment from : @roberthuff3122 |

Just picked up a M1 Pro 16gb 2tb on eBay for sub $1500 I’m coming from a 2012 MacBook Pro 1tb 16gb and the difference is amazing My old Mac was still doing its thing but damn I was living in the Stone Age Comment from : @crisantogarcia6646 |
Bruh 400 bucks for 16gb of ram in 2023 is crazybrI can't think if a situation in the last 10 years I've paid more than 100-150 for 16gbbrYeah Apple is getting good but also getting ridiculous Comment from : @bigsean6045 |
Thanks, you answered on all my questions :D As I'm that heavy user with tons of tabs, 2-3 graphic softwares open and it's seems the time for trowing away the old intel is come ;) Comment from : @minimirobg |

Can you do the same video comparing a 14" M2 PRO (10-Core, 1TB, 32GB) vs A Basic 14" M3 pro? Comment from : @javierbergua4082 |
Great video I still have an Intel Core i9 I was considering a M2 (even though M3 will be released soon) and thought I should go with a 32 gb After watching your helpful video (not that I understand everything but get the gist of it), perhaps a refurbished M1 and 16 gb will still be a big improvement vs what I now use and struggle with in Lightroom Comment from : @popiemac4579 |
Hey ! can you share the 8K footage so i can test it on my Hp OMEN? so ill try to understand if it worth it to buy a mac M3 Comment from : @mymyChannel771 |

Can you make similar comparison between MacBook Air 8 GB and 16 GB keeping SSD same at 256 GB Comment from : @sriramamencherla4246 |
How could you skip premiere pro? You did lightroom and photoshop Comment from : @rexplorerofficial |
Anyone got the link to the wallpaper on the 16 gb (right one)? It's not the same one in the description link provided Comment from : @PrateekSinghal |
My 2010 Pro lasted us 10 years! In the market for a new one now, and I'm thinking I want the 32 GB if for no other reason than to "future-proof" my investment I imagine that in the next 7-10 years software RAM requirements will only increase Comment from : @twrecks4598 |
So in summary, just get the 16gb M1 Pro, with a large SSD you'll never notice the difference, and by the time the swap memory becomes an issue your machine will be long overdue for an upgrade Comment from : @technoscience |
So if I have that Intel Core and I’m just chugging along, what’s the recommended fix? Comment from : @annanuss2041 |
I have such a huge lag an delay even without chrome tabs open My memory pressure is not in the yellow either I wish I could just edit photos at a decent pace Comment from : @annanuss2041 |
I just updagraded my Macbook pro early 2017 for a Pro 16 inch M2 Pro and I have to say The speed on this beast is amazing I can't make it slow down Parallels running windows 11 runs like nothing Don't even hear the fans running 10/10 would recommend Comment from : @Random_videos274 |
What about games ? :( Comment from : @shakuro4168 |
Even though I have 16GB of RAM in my Macbook Pro, it's performance is AWFUL If I open discord and youtube at the same time, the machine is nuking Not to mention every time it can't handle a second of any game, and after 10 minutes of using an art program the lag is immense I'm guessing it's because it's from 2015, but that's just me Comment from : @friskanxiety |
So what Max is saying go for SSD capacity, and for RAM, just download more of it! ;-) Comment from : @DS-pk4eh |
i'm sure the ram would show a bigger difference if you're also using the chrome while exporting in the background! the os probably knows you're not using chrome so it goes away from Ram, stays until the end so the 3s is just the beginning portion of transferring to swap Comment from : @ameliabuns4058 |
Will the 16gb model last at least 5 years for video editing? Should I get 1tb or 512 is enough? Comment from : @manosalexakis |
I intend to buy the mac mini m2 pro base version is enough or 5 years from now would justify buying the 32gb or 1tb version of space I use little space, it's just because of the speed I would like to understand your opinion Thank you greetings Comment from : @RuiCastro-b4u |
I needed this video! Someone told me I missed up ordering a 16 inch MacBook Pro with only 16 ram or unified memory and not 32 Comment from : @vladcode |
Comparing macbook pro vs intel is like comparing tesla vs toyota prius Comment from : @KevinColt |
So I guess World of Warcraft will run just fine on the 16Gb machine? 🤔🤷♂️🤣👍 Comment from : @roberttosa2560 |
Well yall just saved me some money 16gb ram and 1tb for the SSD Comment from : @committed2thecore |
Very helpful, however, I'm using this as a gauge for the new Mac Mini M2 Pro, can you please tell me what CPU and GPU these computers have? Thank you so much😊 Comment from : @Tiffany-RemoteOfficeGirl |

damn his voice is kinda grating because it sounds so fake Comment from : @kefkapalazzo1 |
The difference between the machines is striking…this video is helpful in that it casts some doubt on the utility of spending the extra $400 Comment from : @FDmedlabs |
Great test Thanks for doing this I’m going to be in the market for a new laptop soon and I was wondering if I needed to bump my ram past 16 and you answered that question for me! Comment from : @robertkollar779 |
Comment from : @ononnoalingon1488 |
this mf single tasking for a ram test hook them up to an ultrawide and have like 8 things running at once and see how they compare Comment from : @muaar |
worth noting here i have a 32 GB model because i use 18-24 GB of ram at any given time for work There ARE applications and workloads that will happily consume that much ram however in my opinion if you are wondering if you need it, you probably dont If you need 32 GB of ram, you KNOW you 32 GB of ram on these machines Comment from : @wyatt8770 |
Macbook pro M1 pro 32gb ram 512 ssd VS macbook pro M2 pro 16gb ram 512 ssdbrBoth are for same price right now brWhich one to buy ?brI use Logic pro alot and wanna upgradebrPlease let me know Comment from : @nishadgmusic5829 |

Thanks for this review helped save me money on choosing the 16gb Comment from : @ElevateHTX |
Please add Adobe After Effects to your tests, specially when testing ram options! I think that it is one of the most ram intensive design software out there Comment from : @JussimirPasold |
What about running parallels ? On 16gb vs 32gb would love to see that Comment from : @Acconda |

super helpful video Comment from : @reymago23 |
Your test macBooks are fresh stock, I wonder if you draw the same conclusion once these machines are well-seasoned, say a year later after daily considerable use Comment from : @tangled6931 |
Upgrading ram and ssd wasn’t that important on the M1’s so that could be one of the reasons Apple did what they did on the M2’s More reasons to upgrade Comment from : @kwalex6882 |
Thank you Comment from : @one_vers_music |
15 thousand dollar Mac Pro?? What?? 15:11 Comment from : @gtamediaproductions1 |

I was really surprised at how little the difference was when using lightroom & photoshop Thank you Comment from : @PeterTtofis |
You just answered my question as to how much ram I should get on a new 16” M2 pro… 32 gigs to limit swap wear on the soldered SSD chips…brbrI keep my laptops for a long time This will give me peace of mind and hopefully some reserved capacity for the future should programs need extra RAM Comment from : @robh8214 |
People think base model macs are good for today and 16bm ram, 512gb memory is future proof However that logic doesnt reflect reality The reality is something like that: 8gb ram-256gb memory is insufficient hardware, 16gb memory-512gb memory is today proof 24/32gb ram-1tb memory is future proof Ofcourse there will be no difference between 16gb ram and 32gb ram today The magic word is today The real performance difference will occur on the following years Comment from : @alperenozturk654 |
First : using ssd as swap all time will make ssd age faster and it will not work as normal ram in all apps as in video editing you will need more real ram not just swap brSecond : using more ram will make such very very little difference in exporting time for videos but it will make huge difference in the working flow at timeline while editing and i think that which is more important than the speed of exporting time Comment from : @ShadyMoustafa |
No vale la pena esos $400 Comment from : @jhalexi |
