Great video I still have an Intel Core i9 I was considering a M2 (even though M3 will be released soon) and thought I should go with a 32 gb After watching your helpful video (not that I understand everything but get the gist of it), perhaps a refurbished M1 and 16 gb will still be a big improvement vs what I now use and struggle with in Lightroom

So in summary, just get the 16gb M1 Pro, with a large SSD you'll never notice the difference, and by the time the swap memory becomes an issue your machine will be long overdue for an upgrade

Even though I have 16GB of RAM in my Macbook Pro, it's performance is AWFUL If I open discord and youtube at the same time, the machine is nuking Not to mention every time it can't handle a second of any game, and after 10 minutes of using an art program the lag is immense I'm guessing it's because it's from 2015, but that's just me

i'm sure the ram would show a bigger difference if you're also using the chrome while exporting in the background! the os probably knows you're not using chrome so it goes away from Ram, stays until the end so the 3s is just the beginning portion of transferring to swap

worth noting here i have a 32 GB model because i use 18-24 GB of ram at any given time for work There ARE applications and workloads that will happily consume that much ram however in my opinion if you are wondering if you need it, you probably dont If you need 32 GB of ram, you KNOW you 32 GB of ram on these machines

People think base model macs are good for today and 16bm ram, 512gb memory is future proof However that logic doesnt reflect reality The reality is something like that: 8gb ram-256gb memory is insufficient hardware, 16gb memory-512gb memory is today proof 24/32gb ram-1tb memory is future proof Ofcourse there will be no difference between 16gb ram and 32gb ram today The magic word is today The real performance difference will occur on the following years

First : using ssd as swap all time will make ssd age faster and it will not work as normal ram in all apps as in video editing you will need more real ram not just swap brSecond : using more ram will make such very very little difference in exporting time for videos but it will make huge difference in the working flow at timeline while editing and i think that which is more important than the speed of exporting time
