I’m trying to decide on a good portable Macbook for classes (Psych major), occasional music production and light-ish gaming I’ve narrowed down to the 1tb M1 Air for $1k vs the 512gb M1 Pro for around $1,300 Both are 16gb of ram I figure both will accomplish my desired tasks, but I find the amount of extra computer $300 hard to ignore Which would you choose?

How about SD card transfer with the port in MacBook Pro? How fast this works? Some time when I plug my camera into MacMini with M1 with USB C to transfer 250 GB takes hour or more I wonder how fast this works wit SD card slot? Would this be faster and save me time? If one dosent need a new macbook now just wait for the air coming this year I'm pretty sure it's gonna be a huge upgrade towards the old air brI can't stand the thick bezels on that small screen and the potato cam is horrendous Went with a 16 inch base modell and it's awsome But might think to switch for a 129 ipad pro and a 14 inch macbook pro or a an air instead Get the best of both worlds

Hi there Great reviews as always, I am looking for some advice brI have 15" Mid 2014 MacBook Pro with a 25 GHz quad core I7, 16GB of memory and a 1TB hard-drive I have maxed it out over the years Ideally I would like to buy a M1 Mac-mini and a new laptop but that's not financially possible at this time I travel a lot so a laptop is a must over a desktop The most demanding applications I use are Lightroom CC and Photoshop for photography I also like to edit on an external monitor when I am at home My current Macbook slows down a bit when editing photos and the fans run constantly when connected to an external monitor I would prefer a 16" but would consider the 14" possibly if savings are worthwhile or significant It definitely sound like a MacBook Air is not a good fit but what are your suggestions for configuration when considering a 14" or 16" Macbook Pro?brbrThanks!

I've had the M1 Air 8gb for a year, and it's great, since ditching chrome memory isn't an issue Compute power isn't a problem since that's handled by server/cloud Lightweight/portability is more important for me in an on-call work or remote admin laptop Maybe the Pro's would be more attractive to a solo worker, but the Air comes out ahead for me for enterprise IT admin

Just bought the MacBook air m1 16gb ram 512 gb storage, and I have to admit I'm a little disappointed I used it to edit some short 4k clips from my Gopro, and imovie lagged a lot I had only imovie working and nothing in the background, and it was just like total of a 3 minute video(no 360 or something heavy like that)brThis is my first time editing videos so I cant tell if it's okay The computer slowed down drastically and it was almost impossible to keep editing is that normal? Having used an M1 MacBook Air for a year, I found I’d much rather have 16GB and very nearly bought a new 16GB/512 Air I think that would be valid enough but, once you extend beyond base Air or base 13” Pro, you start pushing towards the cost of the base 14” M1 Pro

Excellent review I can't say I didn't know all of that just from the specs and early reviews though I chose the 14" even though I will rarely need the power of the processor The better portable sound and graphics combined with the GPU in travel and the added ports when plugged into a home station was worth the cost If I were to buy a laptop for a child about to enter college I would go with the Air because it would meet all of the needs and kids all have wireless headphones with full surround sound, gaming mouses and keyboards Most kids will not use the internal speakers anyway because the extraneous stuff they already have will beat it I am just old I guess

I asked myself the same question after watching a ton of reviews on the M1 Pro/Max Macbooks I ended up going with a refurbished M1 MacBook Air with 16GB ram and a 1TB SSD for $1350 (tax and shipping included) The faster speed of the M1 Pro/Max for me really didn't make sense for the extra cost Considering the YouTube videos I watched with people editing 4K and multitasking with ease on the Air was impressive! I edit an occasional 4K video and just do regular computer stuff on a daily so saving over $1000 easily by buying the Air vs the Pro/Max just made sense money wise Keep up the great content!
