Just traded my GS for a Tenere After a year and 10K miles on the GS--and $3500 USD in repairs and maintenance--I decided to go with the Tenere The camel that broke the proverbial camel's back was the oil light coming on just as I was crossing into Mexico on one of my trips The GS is refined and fun to ride, but BMW needs to concentrate more on engineering and quality

klr is a different class of bike, its an enduro dirt bike made street legal, not as comfortable on the highway as an adventure touring bike, but way more capable off road, its in the class as the ktm 690

Fogbrush, if you think the 990 is too heavy do a search on youtube There's an amazing video of someone doing unbelievable stuff on it off road and at high speed I couldn't (I used to own a 950) but the point is, with the right man onboard, the bike will do it
