It's more expensive to live in the city, but I don't own a car, no car payments, no gas, no insurance, no maintenance fees I def break even on having a nicer apartment in the city and using the subway (which my company pays for)

Definitely getting slack for this, but buying an EV (not naming any brands) helped drop gas from about $200 per month to electric for about $50 per month Well over $1k per year saved with this and more funding available for security and investments

It is the incidentals that you don't account for: Car breaks down, HVAC system breaks down, child gets in car accident, kid loses their glasses, etc These usually go on credit card and the rest is history
