I will never be able to retire My generation needs over a million to retire The sad fact is you will not get RICH welding If you have a wife and kids you will struggle Even if you get overtime every week Maybe Only 10 percent of welders make over 70k a year Make it a back up plan

Glad to hear people don't think welders can make 6 figures Makes for less competition Yes a lot don't because of many various reasons Through personal experience I know lots that have The ones that do, have to hustle ,and they have to be good just like a professional athlete It is not for the lazy of body or mind You have to be top of your game as you are doing it, because a good reputation garners more work and those 6 figures

i used to weld in manufacturing theres no money in it when do it for 5-20 years each new company you work for they always start you off on the lowest pay an hr which is wack but welding in the construction industry welding jobs are competitive due to only taking certain people to pass the welding test for new contractors

Not a welder, just a railroader but same thing we get Google what conductors and engineers make, it'll tell you that we make 40-70k a year I don't know anyone that stays marked up (readily available) on our line that makes less than 130-180k here in PA

schools need to stop trying to jam square pegs into round holes we need more career choices in the schools not everyone will (or should) go to college let's stop setting up students for failure and poor self-worth by asking them to focus on something that doesn't mean anything to them there should be passion and joy in our work skills education needs to be brought back happy life isn't directed by how much money you make in a job

im a beginning structural steel welder and i make $18 an hour and go to trade school I work 8 hours and 30 minutes kep in mind my hours are part time so i can go to school I will work 10 hr and 30 min My first paycheck let me buy a $600 welding hood you will make money in this industry if you work for your money A lot of welders work 12hr shifts

$150,000/year, no matter how one earns it, will not necessarily make one rich either I live in the very high cost area the same as Mr Rowe Plenty of people here pull down those kind of earnings or salaries And yet, they never become financially rich as in, not needing two workbrbrI've been involved in personal finance my entire life And, it's as simple as my late father used to say: "It's not how much you make but, how much you keep"

After ten years of welding / fabrication I was making 26 bucks an hour that's average wage Plumbers, electricians these guys make bank But welding is still a fabulous skill set, but it doesn't yield as much as other trades
