Hi Mick, have you clipped the Bright cap on the vibrato channel of the Deluxe or do you keep it stock ? Thanks ! Comment from : @simonbeslin |

A question for Dan and Mick, as I know you will be able to explain it better than anyone out there - why does the Fender Deluxe Reverb amp have no Mid knob, and how does one work the amp despite not having a Mid knob to get different tones from it? Thanks! Comment from : @jamesg261 |

I had a club owner that saw me bring in a Marshall 4X12 cab and before I even plugged it in he said that's way too loud Comment from : @michaelvalentine5019 |

My favourite at the moment is my Fender Deluxe Reverb silverface Amazing pedalplatform amp Comment from : @TeroKoivisto-k18m |

Try the DeluxeRev as an 8-ohm head amp with a variety of speaker cabinets For a big stage, I recommend a 2x12 Celestion V-type cabinet with an open back and tilt-back legs An extremely effective, versatile setup Something like Landau's MLDeVille combo, but sweeter, not too loud, much better sounding Comment from : @RafałSędek-t8x |
The ODR-1 is an always-on type effect It works a bit differently than a typical TS-style drive If you don't know what I'm talking about, you need to learn this lesson I think you can easily find information on the net Comment from : @RafałSędek-t8x |

I know it's the peddle show but I think a lot of people forget the amp and the guitar are so versatile in and of themselves Comment from : @youtubesux6361 |

Usually, its' the venue manager with the DB meter that is the killjoy6V6 are nice power stage that don't take your head off - but try that with an AC15 or a small Marshall, and, well the audience will move to the back wall of the room 🙂 Great show guys!! Comment from : @mainstreetmusic4665 |

Strat! You have a Strat! Yes! The gold top is awesome The strat is golden! You lost your tiny mind thinking the strat should not be played Comment from : @christophervincent8420 |

To be honest in my opinion the newer circuit board based fender tube amps do not hold a candle to either a vintage point to point eye lit board fender or one of the many hardwired point to point fender clone amps being made by various smaller boutique companies I hope I’m not sounding like a gear snob but I can honestly say the difference between a modern circuit board based tube amp verses a point to point eye lit board amp to my ears at least is like going from a solid state amp to a modern circuit board based tube amp The difference is that much better Fender now makes a hand wired point to point version of the deluxe but it cost like $3,200! There are plenty of boutique versions made to exact vintage fender point to point specs with much better components for less money than the hand wired fender deluxe Comment from : @mikethomas6120 |

You could ask Bonamasa or Clapton, who both finally figured it outbut my '58 Tweed Bassman is STILL the best amp in the world With a gain pedal/EQ and into a 4x12 it IS the BOMB! Comment from : @TheDogPa |

A transistor radio was louder than my original deluxe reverb amp when I took it outside to play, i went Marshall and never looked back Comment from : @Wooburnmusic |

I bought the '68 DRRI last year, I've always been a very humble guitar player but this was my BIG piece of gear that I've always wanted (I had a used Deville, just never really did it for me) I was playing my Epiphone ES-335 with just a JHS Tube Screamer copy and at one point I sat back and just played a couple chords, the sounds that were coming out of the amp were INCREDIBLE Every pickup configuration, coil split or humbucker, on the "custom" side in the low gain input (which is actually a Bassman but still) with bass and treble both at 10, and the volume on like 2 and a half or something, the overtones and harmonics and touch response were ridiculous, it sounded better than any record I own through real speakers It wasn't anything I was doing, the amp was just that great Comment from : @MeatSnax |

I love my Gibson GA-40 RVT! Comment from : @epscaling |

Isn't it Joe Bonamassa that says you shouldn't mess with pedals until you've exhausted the mad range of sounds you can get from your guitar and amp? Comment from : @neiladdison4457 |
I'd love to have the cash for option paralysis😂 Comment from : @neiladdison4457 |

This idea also applies to the Bandmaster and Bassman Personally the AB165 Bassman is the ultimate gig amp and pedal platform cheaper, simpler, sounds better It’s like a 2x Deluxe also channel jumps in phase Comment from : @badgerdub |

Nashville is the worst music city out there for not wanting amps on stage, especially Broadway Quite ironiccoming from a Nasville player Comment from : @Guitarmankw |

Hello chaps What speaker do you have in your 65 DRRI? Curious what you know / like / recommend Cheers! Comment from : @tadlehmann1906 |

Many amps meet the characteristics you attributed to the “best amp in the world” I have my own bs opinions, like I think the old music man amps bury fender amps in just about every way Comment from : @gumbilicious1 |
Oh man, I just don't know—Deluxe Reverb or the Princeton? Both are offered at Sweetwater with a couple of mods, like mid control, reverb, and tremolo in both channels going to pair with a Pro Jr so perhaps the Deluxe for the 12? Comment from : @lucianholbrook3966 |
still not quite sure how your ears aren't bleeding when you crank it to 10 Are you controlling that by just rolling back the guitar volume? I saw another video and the guy got some insane tone by using the DR as a head and running an extension cabinet into his garage Not sure I want to do all that but it sounded insanely good Comment from : @jdobber1 |
I completely agree but, the Mesa California Tweed is an equal Mick’s review caused me to buy one I hope this review doesn’t cause me to buy a Deluxe Reverb Or… Maybe I do Comment from : @Hiline1970 |

I’m looking at a ‘64 deluxe hand wired but way pricey Man you guys make that ‘65 sound killer and giving me second thoughts here brCurrently play thru a ‘57 tweed deluxe pushing it with a Throbak Fuzz Haze, lower gain toggle and fuzz set to 3:00 and a little above unity, and a MXR Boost in front of that for solos It’s all I need gain wise Great with any guitar, in my case a 2420T, tele or LP Special w/BB pros The best tones ever 😊 Comment from : @gmoney9794 |
What model gold top are you playing? brThx guys! Comment from : @gmoney9794 |

Can I get away with using the tonemaster version, specifically with the IR out for recording? I can’t be loud but I want that tone! Comment from : @yomommacalledmeback |

Why doesn’t Mick have contact lenses either wear your glasses or take them off 😀 Comment from : @bryankeegan9542 |
I’ve detected a trend with Mick He is really simplifying stuff — going more analog, trying to work a lot more with guitar pots and amps Use pedals just to color not to completely take over the tonebrbrI’ve recently been using Billy Gibbons trick Take a Les Paul into an EQ Drop the 200hz a little and crank the 400hz on max Into an edge of break up amp Ride the volume pot Glorious Comment from : @doubled5383 |
Fender Deluxe (no Reverb) was my first tube amp, around 1971 Wish I had kept it! I later got the Super Reverb, which was the best amp I’ve ever owned! Comment from : @mikeoxley4458 |
Thanks for this amazing vid! Does this all apply to the Fender 68" Custom Deluxe Reverb Amps being sold today? - It seems this amp is an older issue? Or is the difference negligible? Many thanks! Comment from : @FelixKingerlee-m7h |
The best sound comes from a cranked valve amp and using the volume and tone controls on your guitar Having a guitar with two volumes and two tones is the best I always have my neck volume on 7-8 with a slight break up so it sounds clean if i pick soft and breaks up slighty if i dig in I switch over to the bridge pup volume on 10 so the amp is breaking up and overdriving for lead and solos and if i turn the bridge volume down to 8 i get a nice crunch rhythm sound It's awesome, use the guitar to go from, clean to edge of break up to crunch to driven That was with a Fender pro 2 tele deluxe into the top boost channel of a vox ac 15 Was absolute guitar heaven Sadly had to sell guitar and amp when the missus fell pregnant Now jam on a katana and player series 😢😢 Comment from : @derekjohnson5720 |

Silent stages don’t even sound good from the audience You get close to the stage and all you get is drums Lame!brIn clubs, you can hear a sound hole from the middle of the room, the audio directionality is off Comment from : @ThemFuzzyMonsters |

Hello Dan and MickbrbrI have circled a Deluxe Reverb for close to a year now One question: are there certain years (build date) to look for or avoid?brbrI’m not talking about vintage DR’s I have a line on a DR built in 2004 Is that OK (provided the amp has been maintained properly)? I don’t know if that is the same as the more recent ‘65 DR reissues or the amp you feature in this video brbrNot sure if there are any other considerations for that amp being 20 years old brbrAny advice you have would be greatly appreciated Maybe Santa can make a late stop in my guitar room! Guys, thanks for this, really helpful and a timely reminder of how we used to do it, back in the Stone Age I'm guilty of being brow-beaten by FoH people, so tried your settings on my Custom Deluxe '64 Handwired and it was magical Wondered if you have plans to reviewed this amp (if you haven't already) and what you thought of it? Comment from : @monstermax22 |

I’ve come to some big realizations the last couple of years (I’ve been playing for over 40) There are a lot of generalizations that get passed down and just accepted as fact by a lot of guitar players One is the “Fender amps are scooped, Marshall amps are mids forward” In fact if you look at the EQ curves on Seymour Duncan’s tone stack generator, they are all scooped Fender blackface amps are scooped *more*, and in a different frequency range than Marshalls, but they are in fact both scooped The only amps I have seen that are not really scooped to much of a degree are Orange amps and Fender Tweed Deluxes Tweed Deluxes are darned close to flat, and Oranges only have a mild scoop That said, another thing people tend to incorrectly assume, is that all blackface Fenders have the same sort of EQ curve Which leads me to my point (finally 😬); The blackface Deluxe has a bit more mids than the average Fender Same with the Bassman I think the reason the Deluxe is such a well rounded amp is because of this difference I think a lot of people have struggled to get a great fuzz tone with a Twin Reverb or a BF Princeton, but not so with a Deluxe It’s a smallish difference, but I think, enough of one to make the Deluxe a winner for versatility It’s has a fairly neutral voice that works with every situation The more “character” an amp has, the more it has limits I find amps like Orange and Vox, though they tend to have great sounds, would never be a “if you could only have one” choice for me Something like a Twin Reverb has a similar issue, but in the opposite direction EQ-wise I love Twins for pure clean tones but outside of that use they take a good deal more work My personal favourite all arounder as of lately has become Brownface Fender tones A little rounder and warmer than blackfaces, and with a nice vocal midrange - not too extreme like a Vox, but enough to give them a bit more character than the slightly more neutral voiced blackfaces Comment from : @darwinsaye |

I’ve never seen or heard of an orchestra playing on a silent stage We live over a mile away from the local high school and we hear the marching band practice all the time Music is loud Period It is loud and should be I play loud at home My bedroom amp is a Mesa mark v All the neighbors hear it even in the winter with all the windows closed I hear their lawn tractors, motorcycles, kids yelling etc Life is loud, it just is Just because you can turn down the radio doesn’t mean that’s what it really sounds like Comment from : @gregcameron5079 |

I have a 1963 Fender Deluxe amp without the reverb It is in exceptional condition and sounds great This one has two channels, which I love Comment from : @WalktheWalk-ki9kj |
I play in a small room and want to protect my hearing I also dont do any gigs because I suck Would a 12 watt Princeton Reverb reissue be a better option? Or is it just not as good tonally? I see that you can get it with a 12 inch speaker, so it may be a better option for me? Comment from : @lp7064 |
Awesome tones and playing, thanks guys! Comment from : @1234mikeirving |

Being heard on stage is not just about only volume but frequencies toothose who stays with low treble and plenty of bass will have trouble to cut through the mix for solos Comment from : @danieldesjardins6615 |
Yep 12-22 watts is really the sweet spot for most playing situations The trick with effects is finding pedals and settings that work with the natural sound of the amp If you do it right as demonstrated in this video there's an overall cohesion to the sound that you can't quite get with a squeaky clean "pedal platform" amp Comment from : @sethhoward1095 |
I like all you do but i think with changing times the whole concept of using variius pedals like drives, mods delays reverbs etc etc on ampless setups involving sansamp or iridium or uad etc etc shud become staple Mainly for live music guitar players … in fact i have skimmed thru youtube there is no channel specialising in live gig setups and ampless setups Comment from : @abhishekkapadia4687 |

Great amps for sure Was my first amp in late 70s But in those days it just wasn’t enough to gig with There was no microphone on amps The amp just didn’t have enough head room and no master volume Some moved up to super reverbs but most went to the twin In my case I went to music man Hd130 212 which blew the twin away Comment from : @lesd2633 |
Nah, low volume gigging is total bullshitbrAbsolutely NEVER apologize for volumebrI mean, rock n' roll is bsupposed/b to be loud and dangerous ffs!brbrNever apologize for volumebrAnyone who insists that you turn down has a shitty venue, a shitty crowdor both! Comment from : @JPSixgunner |

Awesome video guys! Thanks for demoing ways to combine the pedals to get multiple gain stages and tones out of the different combinations made with both guitars That EQ idea as a cut and the overdrive as an under drive were really cool and unexpected Thanks for going over a few options guys, nice playing too! Lots of valid points for the times guys, much agreed on the playing better The more naturally or organically you can get your sound the more it seems to connect and inspire us players Comment from : @howe_bradical |
