My uncle died a few years ago He loved music and he was very good at the bass His bass' haven't been touched since he died, and my aunt doesn't want to get rid of them I've been playing guitar for a couple years, and I really wanted to play my uncle's bass My aunt is letting me borrow them to learn on Thank you, Marty, for teaching me the basics, so that I can honor my uncle through playing He would've loved to watch your videos, and learn from you

As a beginner in the literal meaning of the term, not a beginner from another instrument, not a beginner who has learned the basics, but a true beginner, I find it a huge barrier that every bass teacher for beginners chooses songs that are too hard, or that only have an easy riff, but the rest of the song is impossible for a true beginner Can we please start with a song which is slow and easy from beginning to end? Beginners need enough time to get their hands and fingers in position, figure out muting, play along in time and pick the stirngs properly That is a ton to keep track of A song please, that's slow, easy, just quarter notes, beginning to end Not just riffs, not just intros, but a recognizable song easy enough that you could put a bass in the hands of someone who has never played an instrument, and can play along I hope you take this to heart Martybr

On a 6 string guitar the first string is the highest note, closest to the ground Why change it round on the bass?

I liked it when explained like this That B and E have no sharps no matter what string So the next half step (1 fret up) from E and B are the next letter from the alphabet Let's start with the A string cause its starts from the beginning of the chromatic scale (ABCDEFG) So open A to first fret up is A sharp, next fret is B ( remember B has no sharp) So next fret up is C, next fret up C sharp Next fret is D Next fret is D sharp, next fret is E (Remember E also has no sharp) So next fret is F Next fret is F sharp Next fret is G Next fret is G sharp Next fret is at the 12th fret so its an A again only the octave higher than the open A that we started with and all notes follow what we just learned till the frets run out Hope this helps
