You can't for the facts of that all coin's has been cleaned and truth is that copper Coins will actually cleanes and retone on there own by only two simple things that is natural if you understood what there is to take in consideration that's real truth Comment from : @matthewmiller6418 |

THANK YOU! Comment from : @googuser7193 |

when somebody says your coin is cleaned how do you know their not lying and just trying to get it cheaperwhen you send your coin in for grading they can put what ever they want to on it and there's not a damn thing you can do about Comment from : @ridgerunner7980 |
Nobody has ever been able to explain the rational against cleaned coins But I do know that when the Sistine Chapel and the Mona Lisa were cleaned and restored, their value went into the toilet Didn't they? Comment from : @bolt4694 |

Love looking back at some of your older video's 😉❣️✌️ Comment from : @fhewes7773 |

I’m about to start metal detecting So what would you advise I do to a coin old, from the time I pull it out of the ground to get it sell ready? Comment from : @TXMamaMO |
2:45 The crud in the devices is how dirt accumulates naturally It builds up around the stars and inside the numbers etc and dirt sticks to dirt, so it's an accumulation over many decades, it's not generally evidence that the coin was cleaned It's actually a way of determining that a coin has NOT been cleaned Comment from : @fifteenbyfive |
In short,, if a coin is very clean and shiny, but has no luster or cartwheel it’s been cleaned an not worth much Comment from : @michaelmichael9940 |

I'm fine with anyone answering this It's just something I've always wondered about Over the years I've bought a few nice condition Morgans I like the super white ones, or at least very nice shape even if they aren't valuable as such Even the nicest ones (common dates obviously) can be really affordable How did the Morgans stay so nice for so many years, when most any other silver coins just didn't seem to fare as well Most silver in the exceptional condition that many Morgans are would be off the hook expensive, even if they aren't incredibly rare When you can still get an un-circulated, nice looking silver dollar that's 125 years old in the $30 - $40 range, it just seems odd I don't mean cleaned coins I hope that makes sense Comment from : @richnorman7058 |
Good advice Comment from : @2AEnthusiast |
Have you ever had a coin auctioned at Heritage or Stacks and Bowers and which is the better grading company in your opinion I need to get educated quick and do my research I have a good one, slabbed from 1895 She's a beaut Advice??? Comment from : @rhondamiles9922 |
thought using an artist paint brush can get the dirt off without damaging the coins value, my dad oMg has Alz and was polishing some coins said not too but it's hard for him to remember because he couldn't see it clearly so do you also agree with the small paintbrush or bamboo to clean anything necessary? OK, what is your advise when it comes to finding a coin that appears uncirculated with luster and nice devices but when you look at it through magnification you see gunk and small bits of verdigris, the green? Are you opposed to soap and water or acetone wash You can't leave the verdigris to eat away at the coin especially copper coins What do you do? Comment from : @Paige-yx4qs |
Thank you again! Comment from : @jwrhynejr6689 |

They say you can use soap and water with your fingers br I Be use brasso cleaner with my fingers and got between every detail And still has it's shine and no scratches because I only used my fingers Comment from : @johnhiggins3084 |
There is a guy on EBay looks to me he has highly polished coinsHe has a mirror finish 1878 Morgan ungraded and looks like he's knocking down $300-$500 on a polished coin his EBay site is wholesaledmpls2 Comment from : @rockanthems |
The 1854 quarter does not appear to have been cleaned The darker toning in the recesses of the coin and lighter toning on the high points appears natural for a circulated coin Cleaning tends to strip the whole surface of the coin uniformly resulting in a lack of contrast between high and low points The reverse of the coin looks especially natural and he says "it's got that black stuff in there" It would be the lack of that black stuff in there which would make the coin look cleaned Comment from : @cpm965245 |
The overall problem with this video is that he only shows coins that he claims to have been cleaned It would be a much better video if he would show a non cleaned example next to a cleaned or polished coin so that you can see all of the surface detail that has been lost buy cleaning or polishing Comment from : @wfermier |
Cleaning coins can be a very polarizing subject brYou have people who will use an abrasive cloth to shine the coin but you will be left with hair lines on the coin and can not be gradedbrIf you do send it to PCGS they will return it in a body bag brIf you send it to NC they will give it a type of grade like EL details Cleaned , but this is only the case if the cleaning is not too severe brOn the other hand you have dipping brThis is the process were you take a coin and dip it into a very specific liquid that is designed to remove greying tarnish from a coin brIt will not remove the dirt that builds up around the devices brBut if you try this method and don't know what you are doing you will irreparably damage the finish and luster of the coin brThere are some ways to clean or restore coins , but I would suggest that you study and read as much as possible and experiment with low grade or common coins first Comment from : @kccx5comments349 |
Not sure I agree with your cleaning assessment of the 1854 quarter Most coins that have been in circulation long enough to show significant wear will become dirty and build up crud This crud tends to build up around the edges of the devices because it is protected there The crud in the open fields and high points of devices are constantly rubbed off during circulation ie natural cleaning Old copper coins that have had this crud cleaned off often show signs of corrosion in those areas To my eye they look more natural left uncleaned hiding the corrosion and the dark areas provide nice contrast and define the devices more A coin that is cleaned with no color differences from this era looks lifeless Comment from : @stroker300bowl9pool8 |
Seriously, I can't tell the the coin you say is lacklusterlooks good form here Comment from : @cynthiaennis3107 |

ugh too much information that I already know and not good info on the topic Comment from : @ashwadhwani |
Do you really think that Morgan would not get a details grade? Comment from : @kef103 |
acetone cannot react with silver If you soaked the Morgan in acetone for 10 seconds or more you may find the tar substance will dissolve Soak more until it is gone The acetone cannot remove surface metal and cannot change luster Prove it to yourself by using a lesser coin first Comment from : @leebrewer1190 |
What if someone used an ultrasonic cleaner? It should preserve the coin, but get rid of the grime Comment from : @sirMAXX77 |
I'm kind of new at this So coins that have been cleaned are devalued? Comment from : @HappyBirdsGlitterNest |

I NEVER buy "raw coins" on EBAY or from a Online Dealer due to the fact that anyone can take pictures of whizzed, cleaned, dipped coins hold coin at different angles cast light on coin take picture the photo fix the coin make it look like real good "untouched" coin when you paid high Dollars for a coin find out it was cleaned I only buy certified coins from PCGS/NGC online only raw coins I'll buy is from a local coin show, when I can examining the coin in person I been collecting coins for over 20 years Comment from : @Jabshier1980 |

Interesting InfoThanks Comment from : @evilintheeast |

Why are there people who study for years for the job called Art Conservators The job of cleaning off centuries of dirt and grime So one can see the art work and the colors that the artist used Why bother? Why not just leave them as is and enjoy looking at the dirt? Comment from : @erngre1 |
Coming from the perspective of someone who has consciously cleaned some of his silver coins, I was wondering if cleaning them with baking soda and water (rubbing between fingers) has any effect on the distinctive 'ping' sound of silver I cleaned one of my Walking Liberty halves and I notice it doesn't resonate the way the other halves do The thing is, I don't know if it sounds like this because I cleaned it or if it always sounded like this because someone had scratched a grid pattern into this particular coin Any idea? Cleaning didn't seem to affect the ping sound on any of my other coins Comment from : @fountaincap |
That commemorative would be listed on ebay as BU MS-68 I would never buy a un-graded rare coin on eBay You gotta be careful, there is a lot of crap on there Comment from : @AlmostCirculated1 |
Why are you touching your silver coins with your hands and fingers? Get some gloves You'll get far less tarnish that way Comment from : @bobingalls4643 |
Great job man! Thanks for the tips! Comment from : @gswovoka5432 |
The second coin is fake? Comment from : @lessismore9021 |
i have a coin it said republique francaise 1895 i want to know is the coin real Comment from : @htoohso6513 |
Hold on a minute How is that coin from 1881 so shiny if it hasn't been cleaned? You can't tell me that a piece of metal that's been handled and exposed to the atmosphere for over 100 years stays looking that shiny Comment from : @largesatsuma |
well it's your silver so it's your call However consider this, what if one or several of the coins you bought for silver value turn out to be rare or valuable - if not now later? Oops! not anymore!
Lots of common date coins get melted and better examples get hard to find All you're doing to your investment is destroying further potential for the sake of shiny I hope I offered a different perspective
Comment from : @samboheena |
because it is no longer the original surface It is considered defaced Comment from : @samboheena |
I clean all my coins when I get them, with baking soda and boiling water I buy for silver content so its not an issue for me Comment from : @hagbard72 |
Thanks for posting I collected coins all my life (circulated) Now I am collecting for investment Gold and silver, eagles and Morgans I made a mistake and polished, soaked in bleach and and again polished a Morgan (1883 cc ) Looks great but in now worth very little Go figure Comment from : @karlchebator |
I have Morgan dollars and if I were to clean them, wouldn't that increase the price? Why would it be lowered? I'd rather have a clean silver coin than a tarnished one Comment from : @AlMa-qc9tw |
OK Comment from : @Baseballcardkingz |
Very helpful! Thanks!! Comment from : @pdballerina |
great info thankyou :-) Comment from : @gregwilliams852 |
I thought you weren't supposed to touch collectible coins with your fingers? Comment from : @ripNdeb27 |
That Morgan's likely been dipped and that black smudge appears to be corrosion from contact with a rubber band (which etches into the silver) Comment from : @luckybestwash |
Thank you again for taking " your time " to respond , I'll keep the eagles for now , and tune in to your channel often Thumbs up !!! Comment from : @johmrmaxine |
