I bought the best bike that i could afford ('20 Specialized Epic hardtail) and i will never part with it Its perfect for everything i do, and probably the sweet spot if you want a do-it all bike Angle decreasing headset for serious trails and super lightweight and stupendously efficient for the around town trails/streets that i regularly ride Comment from : @codered7453 |
Love my hardtail new too you're tech channel I'm subscribed to you gmbn channel as well very informative on both channels cheers 🍻 Comment from : @ralphcrosby4051 |
I've built an orange clock work super light trail weapon tbf i put 120s rock shox rebas with the 29 wheels is well enough i think I40 and above bit overkill Comment from : @nicksainsbury696 |

Since im getting older and avoiding trails [too many injuries] im sticking to gravel pathways these days so i bought a Trek Dual Sport 3 Gen 5 , no suspension at all but its just perfect for the my local gravel canal pathways w of which i have 60kms of gravel to play with so this bike is perfect for longer rides Comment from : @Dcully |

I already have 3 hardtails the first one from 1999 (Univega Alpina) Just ordered the fourth one - this time more of a trail version (Radon Cragger) Never enough 👍😁 Comment from : @feritiv |

Titaniums vibration damping is more akin to aluminum than it is steel In fact, the only real benefit to titanium over aluminum is yield strength and corrosion resistance, with a very slight weight advantage Comment from : @flybyguy1450 |
I think Anna should tap bike frames with her nails in every single future GMBN video ❤ Comment from : @robertbates3737 |
I love having a hardtail in my stable- I always will! Thanks Anna for the great content! Comment from : @jtsimaras |
I love my banshee enigma I think I'll always ride a hardtail Comment from : @philthyphil3324 |
Everyone should try a hardtail at least once It keeps you honest about line choice Comment from : @paulblackwood46 |
I have just build a XC/trail hybrid hardtail with a 300EUR ali express frame The build quality is better than I thought The rest of the components I bought second hand XT drivetrain, SRAM Guide RSC4, RS Pike, budget rims with DT 350 hubs and Schwalbe RocketRons overall cost 955EUR It rides so good and accelerates like a beast You do not need an expensive frame And building it by my own was quite fun Comment from : @clovercover5321 |
The greatest hardtail I've ever ridden is the Nukeproof scout275 v3 it's one hell of a machine🚵 Comment from : @Scouting4hardtails |
thanks for this video, my next bike is more likely to be something along the lines of a XC MTB, but I am not so sure after listening to Anna's explanation on All-Mountain bikes Food for thought Comment from : @xosece |
For hardcore hardtails, you have to really be choosy and dial in the fork Its your only suspension with the pivot being the back axel and steeps significantly, especially if the geo is built around a tall forkbrbrUnlike a full sus, you aren't sinking into the shock, so you need a fork that can provide small bump and mid-stroke compliance, while remaining very progressive for ramp up Means you need a good fork, but likely will need to run more SAG with volume spacers and faster rebound, while using LSC and HSC to control dampeningbrbrI learnt my lesson from a nose case and went OTB to a grade 2 separated shoulder, and though its rider error, I reckon my fork dove too quickly due to not enough HSC and volume spacer Comment from : @vrwgq3q |
I went cheap, as i use it only on country roads and around the city I've bought a Specialized Rockhopper Comp, from the Specialized store, for only 500 pounds (around 900 normally) I can install a DP if i want, and it's the first time when i can climb without being dead after 200 meters Comment from : @mihaiad86 |
I see Anna, I click Pretty simple 😏 Comment from : @not-a-raccoon |
A modern xc hardtail is plenty capable even without dropperpost depends on the geoAnd massive difference comfort with a alu or carbon frame Comment from : @Paganiproductions84 |
Trek roscoe 9 can't go past one Comment from : @Moonglow1-y9x |
How to buy a Hardtail:br1 Save up more moneybr2 Buy a Full Sus Comment from : @Trikk57 |
Also I straight up find hardtail bikes far more beautiful to the eye There are so many great hardtails under 2k (which is still a lot of money for most) but the versatility and ease of maintenance makes them just the bike for me The Stoic 4 that was shown here is one prime example of very decent baseline part setup for an affordable price Just over a month ago it was even on sale for 1399€ which is an absolute steal, so waiting for sales is sometimes even a good idea Comment from : @Krizefugl |
Ragley Big AL for the win Comment from : @CJGrand1 |
Bravo Anna!(again) This is a great example of how to keep it real All terminology is explained and kept simple and straight forward All bike options are couched in real-world decision-making parameters, all options are discussed with common pros & consbrSO glad to have honest, clear info like this online, especially for newer riders struggling to parse the over-complicated marketing gauntlet of MTB shopping!❤❤👍🏼👍🏼br#Annacipullorocks Comment from : @Milessongs |
With a 140mm fork, change of tyres is all you need Go for a frame that comfortably takes at least a 26 tyre If you want to bike pack, a bigger front triangle will enable a frame pack, but it’s not a deal breaker Comment from : @hallstewart |
I love my hardtailmy knee's not so much Comment from : @brettsmith6010 |
Wish they would bring back the Superfly! Comment from : @seano218 |
Also, 275 wheels are stronger and lighter than 29ers Quicker starting and stopping too For how I ride and like to play on the trail, not for speed or racing, they're perfect for me Hardtails are the perfect starter bike and a great skill builder! I still have mine and always will have a hardtail in my quiver along with my enduro full suspension and road bike I like having different riding disciplines for whatever mood I'm in Comment from : @seano218 |
I don't know why anyone would consider buying a Hardtail in 2024 bar the cost , it's full suzzy all day long Comment from : @drewsmith6066 |
interesting video, been riding a full suspension carbon enduro for 16 years, just bought a zero-suspension carbon fat tire and was worried I wouldn't like it I think I like it more after a couple rides Comment from : @jakebrakebill |
I switched to a Nicolai All-Mountain Hardtail over a year ago Best choice I've made in terms of mountainbiking Extreme low maintenance, extremely high fun, even on not so gnarly trails But capable of doing anything, my old Trek Full-Sus did, and more It's amazing how the dudes in the Bikeparks look, when they realize I'm on a HT With the benefits of a Pinion gearbox, the rear wheel is light and tracks the Trail really well The only downside was the price, but it was worth it Comment from : @Cassie_MTB |
Only Hardtail bike suited with my financial situation 😂 Comment from : @Notreallymeggriffin |
Anna, definitely felt that inertia difference between my 1stTrulyRidden Cannondale29er v Specialized275er! (Both HT) my futureChoice in, however, fullSus for marathonBikePacking, atLeast, will moreThanLikely be an Orbea, as i reckon you just hit my tippingPoint! I also reckon i gotta readyUp my washinUpLiquid b4Hand to keep my my Orbea in tipTopShop! TipOMyHat2ya Anna! You’re bloodyAmazing! Comment from : @JosephSAi2HT |
I have 6 bikes All hardtailsbrAlready thinking on getting another one (a DJ) 😁 Comment from : @uldi1s |
I may have put a 170 fox 38 on my stoic this summer Mainly because it's all I could find local when I was looking for a 150mm fox 36 But it looks so cool now I will never take it off Comment from : @_mgiles |
#askgmbntech How about addressing trouble shooting odd and disturbing mechanical sounds while out on the trail? They can be so irritating, and are very hard for your LBS to replicate in the workshop even if one can record the sound while on the trail Comment from : @Brendan95902 |
Ragley BluePig,a Proper WeaponHa!! Comment from : @fud1376 |
Still digging my ‘18 Trek Marlin 7 hardtail with Continental Cross Kings It’s all I need Comment from : @housepianist |
Thanks Anna, awesome as always I parked my hardtail when I got a full sus and I really should ride it more I have thought for a while about upgrading the fork from the 130 to a 140 or 150 Maybe a new follow up video on doing that upgrade? Comment from : @JeffMTBinVA |
Love my scout Initially got it because of Blake but it is such a great ride and it is easy to maintain Comment from : @evan5167 |
Often, the word “often” can be often overused far too often Comment from : @rpvnwnkl |
A cheapish hardtail makes the perfect bike for winter/bad conditions Save your E or full sus for good weather and you'll save a tonne in maintenance bills It will most likely pay for itself within a few years Comment from : @crankshoptv |
Anna is AWESOME! 😎💯👍 and 🔥🔥🔥 Comment from : @dcv9460 |
I love my hardtail Still brings me joy to take it out riding Comment from : @snowman22ism |
I've seen hts go up to 180mm of travel Comment from : @ianbrown2336 |
Easy, just choose the one with rear suspension 👍 Comment from : @galenkehler |
Love me Nukeproof Scout ! Comment from : @Charlie_Prinz |
Anna what is the shreddiest, slackest hardtail that you have ridden? Comment from : @blakekennard7700 |
Anna i think you are getting heavy why? Comment from : @theshadow8008 |
My h t evolved from trail to xc, now its called xc trail Comment from : @theshadow8008 |
Love my Hardtail Had my Cannondale Cujo 3 since 2018 1 puncture in all this time only changed my drivetrain frm 3by to 1/12 oh n new Forks too Another fantastic vid Anna x Comment from : @DizRidesMtb |
Hard tails are ok but I’m looking for A bike that’s kind of like the Trek procaliber as it’s a soft tail Comment from : @j3j326 |
One thing that I noticed about HT market is that there is a very little companies (almost none) who offer aggresive CARBON hardtail So basicaly something with 66-65 HTA and room for 26 tires and droper post which is also light and capable for longer rides Comment from : @bitumen83 |
Great video, thank you Comment from : @Jboasman78 |
