Bought myself a VOX Valvetronix because of this video, wanted a good, cute, new amp, got a good, cute, new, amazing gigging and bedroom amp Comment from : @sashaplaysguitar |
Forgot about these guys 🎉 Comment from : @gn8821 |
It’s the Vox that had the best sound for the style of playing for me Comment from : @kevinwheatley1097 |
Lol, who uses actual amps anymore? Comment from : @miko1975guitar |
That VOX is the one I am currently using to play The Shadows tunes direct to my strat No additional pedals needed The speed choices on the delay does the trick together with the AC VOX amp The Valve also plays a role on getting that Shads sound So happy to have found it Just my opinion Comment from : @ericwee3130 |
Hello! I have Yamaha thr 10ii for home practice Should i consider switching to vox vt40x? Comment from : @Алексей-т2у3н |
Wow I think the Vox sounds like it has a blanket draped over it Very muffled Comment from : @emhezmfe |
He sad that vox was not so good in the beginningbrThis is British program right?brThat is why vox winns brIts the same as the cars program on tv😂 Comment from : @borjewahlen6917 |
Vox v crush Comment from : @johncave2398 |
VOX kills the Catalyst in the gain setting by far!!!! Comment from : @isMike999 |
12:56 😂😂😂 Comment from : @samuelhyman283 |
I love these guys man Been watching yall for years I missed Rob and The Cap together but Pete grew on me he’s dope too Comment from : @samuelhyman283 |
i got lucky when i first started playing in 2014 and got the VT20X, I still use it today even though i have a nice fender tube amp Comment from : @adman222 |
20 minutes into the video I'm with Chappersthe VOX! Comment from : @isMike999 |
The Orange sounds best, way better than that silly Vox Comment from : @monkofwar |
I THINK ITS WORTH MENTIONING that even though it didn’t win, Orange was the only amp that rob guessed correctly! When it came to the Katana he still wasn’t sure because he said “it’s sounds Katana-y” but when it came to the Orange, he knew it for sure Comment from : @calebbasoco4741 |
I agree with the guitar player, I think he got it spot on with his choice I turned off my monitor so could only hear the amps as well I thought the last 3 were the closes competitors especially the last amp, but preferred the very 1st one to them all on the settings that I heard, that is And so it turned out to be the VOX, who would have guessed!👍 Comment from : @BeGoodNow5 |
For 1 shootout they should swap roles Comment from : @NoahRichardson-c2i |
The Vox did sound good but that HiWatt could have won it for me The Orange could have been dialed in better and contended as well IMHO Comment from : @charleshayman4083 |
More gain, less trouble! Comment from : @arthurasimpson |
I like the VOX also Comment from : @andyavery5604 |
Vox have a way of deceiving you I have a small Pathfinder 15 from the early 2000's which has an 8" speaker It sounds huge! And even being a transistor amp, it has great dynamics and the speaker breaks up nicely I can gig it if I want, I know Norah Jones does It will keep up with a drummer unless crash cymbals are a constant factor in the groove Comment from : @patrickvanvlooten |
Personally I thought the Vox looked the best also Don’t know why the guys don’t like the look Comment from : @peterblum613 |
Hi Lee, On first sight I somehow knew nothing can beat that VOX ECC Please can You arrange for a budget brand and review - "Vault Frenzy 40 Combo Guitar AMP ? Thank you Comment from : @dhrubajyotimoitra |
Man I must be biased or something I thought the vox sounded like electronic shit and many of the others sounded better Comment from : @XxNinjaLimeXX |
It's so great he said it two times Comment from : @quiteenigmamusic |
I got a Vox VT100X about 7 years ago It's brilliant It's software is fantastic and offers lots of hidden amp and pedal modelling options Vox seemed ahead of their time with it to me Mine is set up with a tablet I have the quad cortex now but keep meaning to run it through the vt100x for the tube I imagine owning an additional vt100x and running the stereo outs from the QC into duel Vt100x for their tubes would be incredible Comment from : @mrryan7475 |
Brought to you by: Vox Comment from : @comeonman1100 |
anybody has advice for me on which one to pick here? vt20x or vt40x? Comment from : @Goldmund-l |
I think vox is the king of small combos Comment from : @MeantForNothing |
I bought a vox VT40X because of this video and I am absolutely loving it Comment from : @lonin4013 |
Never liked the katanabrI've owned the code 25 since the release, still love itbrGreat couch amp with very good Marshall tones Comment from : @motokev2727 |
He's 100 right I got the champ II and it is ABSOLUTELY MUDDY at hi-gain I'm taking it back and getting a Vox Comment from : @RSBurgener |
I love how he identified that it was an Orange Comment from : @kartikmishra1041 |
Quilter for the WIN! Comment from : @davewolfe4520 |
The Vox sounds great but has no line out for recording or looping, shame Comment from : @dsam6990 |
VT40X is my practice amp Dunno if the valve is actually in line or just for show, but it does take a couple seconds to warm up before you hear anything, so who knows, lol Favourite dirty model is the Double Rectifier, sounds really good Comment from : @nostrilnick |
Are we honestly supposed to be shocked that the ONE Amp with a valve preamp is better than 3 processed amps and 4 solid state amps? It wasn't even close for any of the other 7 Comment from : @FilminMOMMA |
Very interesting video Vox is so warm and Best sounding Comment from : @KritarthMalviya |
Man i proudly own the vox vt40x 😊 Comment from : @sidsarkar1 |
4:40: `This one sounds more like a processed clean, a "direct into the desk" type clean`brIt is funny how words can ge used in a way that everyone feels like they understand what is being said, although they dont dont make any sense at all 😁 Comment from : @martijn_yt |
Marshall and blackstar sounded great to me Comment from : @BrianSmith-ql5nj |
In the Vox v Blackstar round he says he'd use the Blackstar is a good practice amp but he'd gig with the Vox What's the difference? What makes a practice amp tone vs a gig-ing tone? Is the practice amp flatter, analytical so you hear anything and the gig amp colored in some nice aesthetic way? Comment from : @OnTheWhistle |
Listened to this instead of watching itbrAgreed with Chappers at every stepbrDouble blind brThe Vox box winsbrFull disclosure I own one 😁 Comment from : @AIainMConnachie |
Vox vt 40x was my first real amp I loved it The only reason i don’t miss it too much is because i prefer my ac 15 Comment from : @cedriccouissin3201 |
It's funny how much this is a matter of preference, in the first 2 sessions Rob chose the sound I didn't like over the 1 I did I hated the Vox for sounding too muddled and bassy and he didn't like the others for being to trebley when I much preferred the clear brightness of them Comment from : @DRock1779 |
I loved the vox and blackstar Comment from : @Mystic143 |
How much has to do the tone setting for each? Once VOX was picked, I think by ear you will be inclined to the sound you are mostly familiar and to which you already liked the most, even considering the winner is by your side By settings I mean, Bass, Mid, Treble, etc I believe it was somehow matched but, just wondering :) brbrBtw I fell in love with that VOX Sound, you can't deny that compared to the othersspecially Fenderyou can't confuse them at all LOL Comment from : @JARMEGAOMG |
I purchased a Fender Champion 50XL with Celestion 12inch speaker because it’s the best affordable clean sounding jazz combo since the Roland JC40 for me to play abit of Porcupine Tree on as I am not a fan of the dirty fuzz sounds that the others have to offer 🎶brPs: please would you show all amp dial settings in a small box onscreen for future reference as to see all settings when being played by the shred thrasher Chappers🎉 Comment from : @Pea-jb3fm |
Love that sound of the vox omg Me thinks ill be ordering one Lovely jubly guys Comment from : @thefisherman2837 |
Whats a wallwart Comment from : @thefisherman2837 |
Whats a wall Watt Comment from : @abasak007 |
I liked the orange and the vox equally Comment from : @preyingmathis2517 |
Vox was the winner with gain, but that Orange clean was sweet Comment from : @KyleKalevra |
Well done Chappers and Captain! What a shoot out! After I saw this video I was off to buy the Vox Went to the store and ended up with a used Cambridge 50 I couldn't be happier It's a veritable walk through guitar amplification history Very pleased Well done Vox! Comment from : @EpiLover |
Love this way of rating these amps Awesome method, blindfolded Comment from : @fixxxer_ki |
Blackstar Comment from : @stephenlouden480 |
Great video and great blindfolded playing!brThe Vox and Blackstar sounded great but the winner for me was the Hiwatt - awesome Comment from : @tonytrotter2708 |
I have a VT40X and can't stop watching this 😂 Comment from : @kakyolcu |
Seems like you deliberately dialed in thin, fizzy abrasive sounds on about half of those amps Comment from : @davidsharpify |
They love singing in spanish The reason they don't have more spanish songs is that they find it harder to write spanish lyrics They say the words in spanish have different syllables, and it's harder for them to fit them in the structure of their songs Comment from : @davidmoreno7873 |
Vox is such a fantastic allrounder but damnnit that Orange clean, ahhhhhh i need both Comment from : @axypher |
Bind test… you wouldn’t tell him what amp he is using and may be move the amps around, change left or right position He always know what amp “he likes” so how is it a blind test… Comment from : @pudgecracker4095 |
The Vox, they're sweet! Comment from : @thecman26 |
I thought the Vox and the Orange sounded the best With that said, this is without alot of the tweeking you can do I also liked the Marshall The Fender sounded terrible Comment from : @lonestarpatriot876 |
Not sure what the negative comment was re: the power supply on the VOX but it does come with a 12V DC power supply Comment from : @worthmoremusic |
Great match up guys! Rob, what an ear dude! Just picked up Katana 50 gen 3! Comment from : @KenMH2024 |
It’s ALL about how they were set Comment from : @drj602 |
He likes more bass Comment from : @preyingmathis2517 |
It's a shame they didn't have a Bandit to put in there Comment from : @jelleepit |
Wow I cannot claim to have as good an ear as The Chapman, but I agreed with him on every one VOX FTWnot even a doubt Comment from : @GabrielVelasco |
I agree, the Vox sounded best! Comment from : @RicksterNY |
For me, Blackstar was the best Comment from : @shadyganley8877 |
I have the crush, it's supposed to sound like that and I prefer it Comment from : @williampowell15 |
I'm genuinely impressed with the Vox It's not an amp I'd ever pick over the Orange or Marshall , but it does sound better The Fender and Line 6 sounded mince Comment from : @TheSavagederek |
Lots of fun!! … R&L are Always good value Rob obviously has a particular style he plays, though I think his experience of so playing many amps shone Of course Rob will have a preference but what I got out of it was hearing so many different amps together which is loads of information Thanks guys Comment from : @stepheneverett-f2c |
Totally agree with RobbrThe Vox is the best here - I've always found they do great job with their amps, and this is one good examplebrAnd the Blackstar does sound good too, but is not at the Vox levelbrI do have, for practice purpose, a 5/1 watts Vox little amp, and it sounds very good for its sizebrBefore it, I had a 10 Watts amp for this practice purpose (with golden front panel ) , which sounded awfull, even with pedals in front of it - I gave it to a friend as soon as I owned the Vox Comment from : @BlackSun3Tube |
I had this Amp and it is actually underrated This Amp didn't have a ground so it would hum But the new Vox Cambridge they now sell has a three prong power supply Comment from : @Pugsley_addams7 |
Not at all surprised that the Vox won I've preferred the cleans of the Vox for years, even if I don't care for how it looks I could not be LESS surprised based on my own ears in the past brbrI don't have any kind of brand loyalty, although I think I was sort of taught, as a young teen, that Marshalls were the best (via advertising) and certainly the "coolest" lol Comment from : @le_th_ |
If I had to give my own opinionsbrThe Vox was impressive, but for me it was a bit too warm The low end felt a little overwhelmingbrThe Marshall Code, I'm not holding back in saying that it sounded like crap Marshall makes great amps, but the Code is a jokebrThe Boss Katana I can't really give an unbiased opinion about, being that I am a very happy owner of a Katana But, it gives me the exact sounds I want, and I love it because of thatbrLine 6, didn't care for itbrFender Champion, competing with the Code for the worst sounding one Again, love Fender and the other amps they make Super Sonic is one of my all time favorite amps But, the Champion was especially badbrOrange Crush was decent sounding I've heard this amp do some awesome tones in person, and I do like it But, not enough to beat the Katana for mebrBlackstar really impressed me with this one I feel like if I knew this one existed I would have had a hard time choosing between that and the KatanabrHiwatt, lovely clean tone Absolutely beautiful sounding clean channel But, the gain was a bit too classic rock sounding when I'm in need of something heavier of which the Brown sound on the Katana providesbrFor me, it's Katana all the way, but I am very biased towards it being that I love owning one But, I will say the Vox, Orange, and Blackstar amps all grabbed my attention Comment from : @PlasticCyborg |
The vox sounded great Comment from : @douglastaylor43 |
Guy asks for "crunch" and at least twice the other guy turns the dial AWAY from visible "crunch" settings on the amp once on the Katana and once on the Catalyst At ten and a half minutes it began to feel sponsored by VOX Comment from : @androsborsato |
Every time I want to watch a product review I put Anderson’s in the search They seem happy to call out a bad/lesser product rather than just try to sell it Market forces will dictate the best and they seem to embrace this Well done fells and I look forward to shopping with you again soon Comment from : @Cuzzazbuzz |
Aaahwas thinking about switching Katana for a Spark2, but that Vox sounds real :) Would be cool to hear the Grid too under same conditions though Cool job there! Comment from : @LookieChannel |
Gj Rob watch out for bears Comment from : @Oggi7777 |
Can we all just agree that this is just a matter of taste? With Rob being a djent/metal kind of guy, there's no way on Earth he would've preferred the Fender Champion I am surprised by the Marshall, though Fenders are and have always been more geared toward Americana/country/alt-country/bluegrass and that kind of vain They are not metal amps Also, why not choose something like a Mustang for Rob? And why did Lee not adjust any settings hardly at all? Comment from : @leafbelly |
I agree with the winner Vox has a strong performance with their Valvetronix amps I owned one for years as my second amp and I loved it It just isn’t a master of anything specifically The Blackstar was good but as the issue was across the board was poor overdrive/distortion performance Orange sounded decent but you gotta go up a class to get a much more nice sounding amp Comment from : @thisistheslam |
Gonna try and pick myself up a crush in the NY Comment from : @pugsondrugs0161 |
I have to agree those fender things sound like boxes of shit Comment from : @noahgathers4416 |
Had my VT40X for about 8 years, and I still can't find anything better for weight and tone I like to travel light I've owned (3)Tone King, Vibro-King, (3) Victoria, you name it and I also have a 57 Vibrolux and a 67 AB763 Super ReverbThe effects it also brings just seals the deal, 20 lbs I stuffed the wall wart inside, glued it down and terminated it with a regular IEC plug Hard to beat, no winners yet!
