Dept of Education does absolutely jack $h!t to lower the price of college education, in fact it raises it by letting colleges charge high tuition rates and saying "its ok, heres a student loan/pell grant from taxpayer money" The Dept of Education however does a great job of getting a person trapped into a student loan with a huge dollar amount that is impossible to repay and has all kinds of stipulations and limits that only allow paying for certain types of degrees that wind up being useless in getting a good paying career while meantime still being stuck with debt The Dept of education is useless and needs to be done away with

When colleges finally come to terms that the government is not going to bail out defaulted loans with taxpayer dollars, and students come to terms with the fact that if they go to college, they alone will be held financially accountable to pay off their loans, this will cause enrolments to go down Colleges will finally be forced to compete with each other Prices will come down and be more affordable to attract students, and since the student alone has to pay their way, we will also see a major decline in useless majors like "The Private Poetry of Women Iron Workers of the 19th Century"
