what would happen if you took the ring mandrel with the ring on it and that two by four you have laying there with holes in it but the holes would go all the way through and be different sizes and you put the ring mandrel with the ring on it put it in the hole and tap the mandrel with the hammer from the top forcing the ring through the hole and the wood will keep it straight and once it came out the other side it would be almost flat?

I don't recommend ever air hammering like he does in the video Takes longer and you can hurt your shoulder and arm Anchor your arm Place the mandrel on the wood or some type of support There is a set of do-dads that fit on a vise that hold a ring mandrel well Love it, just can't remember the name of it at the moment I learned about it from my instructor at the Art League in Alexandria, VA when I studied there

Great video, loved the method you use I would offer this suggestion By heating the coin and dropping it directly in the water you are actually making it harder and more brittle The proper way to anneal (soften) the coin would be to heat it and let it air cool You might have to do it 2 or 3 times to get it a lot softer You could them re harden it by heating and rapidly cooling it in the water

Hey ya Fencekid, I use a smaller sized tapered punch to make the smaller holes larger to fit on the mandrel, hardware stores sell them i believe, likely for $10 or so, I have had my set for years as i was a auto mechanic now retired

that is NOT annealing, you are hardening it, let cool slow without water

hey, I'm trying to get into this whole coin ring thing, and I was just wondering how you get the coin to be all the same color When I tried doing this the parts that I sanded became the copper color, but the rest of the coin stayed quarter color How are you able to get the coin to be all the same color? Do you just sand the whole coin? And if that's how you do it how do you sand the whole coin without the lettering coming off
