I work for a different Galvanizing facility and seeing the inside look of another plant and how they do things differently is interesting We automate the process more with forklifts and power tools and we end up running 80-180 thousand lbs of steel a day on a 12 man staff per shift ( we have 2) Our process is also alil different but not by much - broad strokes its the same concepts

Welding galvanized steel is nasty, some fumes that you really don't need to breathe My first dose of galvanize poisoning was at Pump Station #12 in Alaska Had chills, aches and didn't know what was going on Older Ironworker, "drink some milk"

You can tell this job sucks The employees seem exhausted, none of them seem to be enjoying the job at all, they seem afraid to even laugh or joke around You breathe in chemicals all day and get splashed with acid It's necessary work so I respect the hell out of these guys, I just wish it was possible to provide them better conditions I've worked with steel for a long time and to me it always seemed like platers/galvanizers had the worst gig in the whole process
