One of my favourite lead sounds is my little 5w solid state practice amp with a 3 inch speaker, came in a starter pack with a strat, £80 total Comment from : @isaacfawcett4153 |
I use small amps myself, I can set in my control room and not get ear fatigue while playing… Comment from : @jackbrowning511 |

I just did this last week at the artist’s direction 5-watt combo with a 5-6” driver Heavily overdriven for a bluesy rock record Sounds great! Comment from : @fivebyfivesound |

My fav setup is a using a small 10 watt or 20 watt Fender Sidekick amp ( or any other comparable amp) with a Sennheiser e935 (dynamic ) on the cone paired with an Aston Condenser about a foot away Put the amp on a milk crate in at least a 10x10x10 room & you get a killer tone with a les paul or strat Comment from : @eliakimbanlawya4729 |
The HUGEST recorded guitar sounds come form teeeeeeeeny little amps Comment from : @erikavery8569 |
The entire guitar and bass tracks from the Songs for the deaf Album were recorded with a peavey practise amp, so it definitely is possible to get something incredible from something like that 🤘(Eric Valentine is a effin legend!) Comment from : @bebopsamurai_music |
A lot of hard rocking bands would have the silhouette of empty Marshall cabinets onstage while a small Fender combo would stand behind them, melting on full blast Comment from : @peevee605 |
A lot of people say that small amps record better than big amps Comment from : @rome8180 |
You can use a tiny amp for a whole album and no one will be able to tell if it's a 15 watt or 100 watt Make it sound good and it doesn't matter The mix and production are the heavy lifters therebrbrI record with an AC30 and Blues Jr Besides tonal differences they both sound great One being small and one being massive They both sound massive when mixed well Comment from : @ricopaulson1 |
I have a late 80s Marshall Lead 12 and that thing is amazing You get that typical Marshall distortion but your ears will stay intact The small speaker also sounds quite nice, lacks low end of course, but that would probably be cut out in the mix anyway Comment from : @AnthonyMcBazooka |
Like Jimmy Page said a microphone doesn’t know how big an amplifier is Comment from : @babylemonade2868 |
But what about speakers? I like to record guitars through good quality 10" speakers Comment from : @shoegazeforever8810 |
People don't realize that most practice amps are decent/good amps but they come with cheap speakers So before spending all that money try replacing the speaker Comment from : @gsferrazza10-13 |
Vox AC4C Small, Voxy And the new ones have the Top Boost Comment from : @KordTaylor |

Ha i had a gorilla 8 inch amp with sears effects petals Looking back now the chorus and delay were great Comment from : @beerubbed7345 |
I have a couple of amps both small and big But one that surprised me is a 4-5 inch 20W small Riley amp It’s so easy to put a mic in front of it The whole speaker is a sweet spot 😁 Comment from : @VarionJimmy |
1 watt is enough to record Comment from : @freezingcathedral |
Molly Hatchet (Tom Werman) used Dwarf amps in the studio Comment from : @MrAcEsNeIgHtS1188 |
