I just got a 2015 Macbook Pro with retina display and it worked great and I was easily able to upgrade it to Monterrey It was ordered for my girlfriend Kathy & I know she will enjoy using it when I go up to her apartment Friday and get it to access her new modem Comment from : @georgesenda1952 |
They want one bc it will run Linux very well Comment from : @SamWicker-su7rp |
I bought a 2015 model - in 2015 and it's running just fine I did have Sequoia via Open Core Legacy Patcher Got tired of it continually wanting to update, which is not easy with Open Core Legacy Patcher, so I down-graded to Monterey and it's working supurbly, for what I have to do, as well as my daily driver, an M2 13" MAcBook Air Comment from : @musicofnote1 |
You can find m1 for 400-500 That was my choice, and even though it is five years old now it holds up really good Comment from : @ml210993 |
I still have the 2009 17 inch MacBook Pro and ISTG the screen on it is SO MUCH better than on this 2017 MacBook Air Comment from : @jbgs1 |
“2017” lol… my 2015 is still kicking strong It’s not my main machine but keyboard is still nice and syncs my iPods just as fast as any of my other machines brLast security update was 6 months ago so 2025 will be the last year I let it do much online anything other than known secure big corpo connections Home WiFi only just in case Comment from : @TheGelatinousSnake |

The number of people buying any Cr*pple product is a measure of humanities intelligence in decline, not of a 'good' notebook Comment from : @elmariachi5133 |
Lol I own 2brbrbrYou completely missed the mark on why people like thembrbrFirst of all you can run legacy patcher and be up to datebrnormal USB and SD cardsbrBattery new is goodbrbrActually I found it funny you mention video editingbrbrThis is actually a more capable device to editbrYou can put a 8tb nvme on itbrAnd so it's easier to edit than in modern laptops with a 256gb as hard drivebrI would say modern base model Macs are unsuitable for video editing long videos because of their limited hard drivebrSure you can pay apple 20k to get a 8tb laptopbrOr how about you spend that money on prostitutes? Comment from : @jamespong6588 |
Will it's passed on the final cut pro experience? Lag's and everything? 😊 Comment from : @southeastboy4634 |
I am from Mauritius and I got this for $290 USD locally Just updated it to MacOS Sequoia 153 via Opencore Legacy Patcher Boy, this machine rocks! Comment from : @JudeRabbani |
to be fair this old mac air is still great Just pulled mine out of storage after the screen on my mac air m1 broke for the second time, and i have to say that the typing and browsing experience is great The keyboard feels smoother and the bigger footprint of the laptop is more comfortable for bigger hands The screen resolution is noticeably worse compared to the retina on the m1, but for school work, no problem Build quality is great also Comment from : @janchrherumpedersen2796 |
I still a 2015 MacBook probrThese are not computers that feel old after a year They last Comment from : @ChristopherReid-i1d |
I have the i7 22Ghz 8GB model I think I paid way less than $300 on ebaybrbrThe hard disk can be upgraded to 960GB (2 suppliers) The SD slot can be filled with a permanently mounted flush fitting 256GB card (only USB2 speed sadly) A new battery is like $35 bucksbrbrUsing Open Core patcher allows running Squoia 1521 and continuing with few if any real limitations Installation and upgrade were trivialbrbrThe machine is indestructible, best design ever from Apple For people with the machine constantly, and couldn't care leas about watching 4K videos while doing real work, it's hard to beat Comment from : @thatguy6834 |
I have a 2013 McBook Air and it works amazing! Comment from : @dayze2764 |

Why the 2017 one though, like go for 2018, it is almost the same age so you can get it for not that much more money, it is newer which has advantages with power, and software support, and it has the nice type of bezels, instead of the weird ones on the 2017 one that let everybody around you know that your broke Comment from : @TechnicallyHenry |
got a 2019 MacBook Pro 13 inch 4 thunderbolt 3 port intel i5 16gb ram 512gb sib for that price Comment from : @Jancisko |

Opencore is allowing Mac users back to 2008 to use later OS's I'm watching this vid on my maxed out C2D 2009 17" MBP works pretty well on Monterey, using Affinity suite and Logic for tracking recording sessions Software support is not an issue Saying that I wouldn't even attempt video editing on it, but as a basic MacBook for general tasks it's solid and working well Comment from : @gixxer12 |
I have a 2013 macbook air i7, 128gb 8gb ram I use it for work since 2013 Ive only had to change the motherboard $400, upgrade the battery $200in 11 yrs Comment from : @sdrjr3562 |
Best thing about this model is the user can replace the battery and the SSD if needed You can also use the Open Care Legacy Patcher to run the latest software Comment from : @daveyoung6895 |
It's actually 2010 design Comment from : @celeron_cn |
I recently acquired a 2013 MacBook Pro 15" Retina (16 GB RAM, 500 GB SSD) for $240 to run Linux After booting it and updating the system to macOS 11 Big Sur (the latest for that model) I was very pleasantly surprised how modern and usable it was even compared to my 2020 Mac mini M1 running Sonoma (macOS 14) Apple has introduced many refinements to the hardware and system software over the years, but I'm impressed how usable and familiar an almost 12 year old system can feel -- other than the weight Oof! I had forgotten how heavy these large-screen MBPs can be But that is another story All in all, it runs macOS great oh, and it's more than enough hardware for Linux For a hobbyist, older Macs are great! Comment from : @sfperalta |
I treat my MacBook Air like a magazine It spends half the day outside tossed from chair to bench I just recently changed the battery in 30 minutes I love mine And the used ones rock, too! Comment from : @rodkoehler |

It is a perfect machine for students My new colleague graduated this year and she is still using this notebook she bought in 2019 on durability: My IIe, IIc, LC 475, SE 4/40, iBook, PowerBook G4, MacBook Pro 2008 and MBA 11,6" still work ;) I regret giving my G5 Powermac to my daughters school 12 years ago though, and my team of PM7600/PB1400 was great back in the early 2000s - I recently found the PCMCIA WLAN card I used in that notebook There are some eternal classics, but apple also had massive fails Before I got the PM7600, I had a 6300 I loved it, because it was my first Powermac, but it was a pain Ah, and there was that IIsi which exploded next to my left knee Writing this on a PBP 2017 btw Comment from : @nludemann9199 |

What you dont talk about is how durable they are, they are built like thanks While your usuall walmart sub 249 dollar computer comes apart the mack air are strong, light and battery lasts for ages I love mine and wont trade them for the world The new macks are delicate and come with factory defects ( keyb, video card etc) You can get an ebay refurbished for 99 dollars!! Comment from : @arjnoro1 |
I use a 2009 iMac for music production This is still new man Comment from : @richardayton6862 |

This particular machine is terrific in terms of design and included hardware, provided you don't need to perform really intensive tasks on it It is a pity that the latest MacOS version it supports is "Monterey" (released in 2021, still supported), but given the requirements of the latest versions of MacOS it is probably for the best: once I tried running an unsupported version of MacOS on an iMac and got pretty disappointing results in the graphics department brbrThere are two points worth considering in this machine, though: it is the last Macbook with upgradable storage (easily accomplished with an adapter): my 2017 Macbook Air is currently running Monterey on a 512GB SSD I upgraded myself A current Macbook with non-upgradable storage is stuck with whatever capacity was built and, given SSD's limited write cycles, have a limited (probably big enough) useful lifebrbrThe other point is the fact that Linux runs like a dream on this machine: incredibly fast and supports like 99 of the hardware (only the webcam is still not working, at least not out of the box) Thanks to the easily replaceable SSD it is quite straight forward to "dual boot" MacOS and Linux (which I do sometimes) So, even when MacOS completely drops support for this machine, it can still be useful Comment from : @jjpc1984 |
I’ve got this and used it for years My younger brother now uses it and its still running great Comment from : @Lr-tv3mh |
I just bought a 2010 Macbook pro just for funIf you like tech and want to see how quickly time changes Said tech I think buy all you want but buying a 5 year old laptop is neither interresting nor is it a good purchase anymoreGet a newer one refurbed instead Comment from : @infinitereactions6437 |
If you compared a comparable 6-7 year old windows laptop, how would it fair? Comment from : @michaelhill6453 |
WHY if the software is the issue, do you not trial run some linux, which would get updates ? Comment from : @AdmV0rl0n |

Anything less than a M1 MacBook Air is a waste of money, period Comment from : @alex8thebest91 |
Is the real reason not that people load Linux on this laptop Comment from : @optimusprime1975 |
I'm guessing they don't do security updates on this anymore? That would be my concern Comment from : @Spladoinkal |
i bought this laptop in large quantities and each laptop is made for one task, I only used about 37 of them and I'm running out of laptops to use I need more for each assignment for my college semester I am a sciencer 🦄 Comment from : @internetprncess4976 |
I live in the third world country and using mac, ieven if it's old is a kind of prestige People would like to show off that they use mac so they would buy whatever they can afford brPersonally, I use mac book air 2014 that I bought when it was out, it still works fine except the battery which is starting to age brThe latest supported OS is Big Sur so I ditched Mac OS and installed linux on it and I ordered new battery which is expected to arrive here soon brI am still happy with it and don't think of replacing it quite yet Comment from : @richardrajiabo3755 |
As someone that has used a 2017 MacBook Air since 2017 The biometric is not a big deal because if you have your Apple watch hooked up you can approve stuff that way instead Comment from : @iSteven180 |
imo an old macbook represents good value because Apple refuses to support macOS for older hardware and it drops the price of these once premium laptops considerably Old macbooks make for great Linux internet machines or document writers that feel way better than a chromebook Comment from : @MrCrazyjoe259 |
5:14 say what you want about the bezels, the old curvy MacBook Air design looks gorgeous next to the black and square box that is the new MacBook Air It’s not even a comparison – the new MacBook is boring at best and thick and ugly at worst It doesn’t look like it was made for humans to use, it doesn’t look approachable anymore Comment from : @aRandomPersonOfTheInternet |
on the editing part, i disagree okay sure i have the 2014 macbook air and it is swifty for me :) never had issues with it Comment from : @VGT1 |

I bought broke ass 2014 27" iMac for like $100 it doesn't run as good as an m3 max MacBook Pro with 128gb of ram, but it runs like crunchy butter commenting from ir right now Comment from : @Littlebrownchicken |
really, since it has boot-camp unlike apple silicon you could just switch to windows once support ends Its not 100 locked down shoot I have one I triple boot with monterey, 10, and mint just because its so portable Comment from : @nerdman127 |
