I just got back to my room in Singapore after the Tet holiday My 1st impression was the room's scent, it was odd after closing the room in around 2 weeks I'm not an anosmic person, and I could easily detect any weird smell around me However, my boyfriend is different, he has a limited sense of smell But he said that he could filter some smells out of the ordinary, something threatening to us

This is a laudable initiative for non native English speakers like myself to improve their acquisition of standard English In my country, the word smell, has a negative connotation, but l have just learnt that this is not true

The reasons for ignoring the usual smell, or what we got used to, is the same when it comes to sound and sight, and is a characteristic of all the animals As for the reasons why the used-to smell (not only at home) make us feel at-home, they tend to decorate it too much in spite of Darwin's teachings Smell of at-home, and smell of other places classified as safe, implies feeling of safety, and it has to do with our million years of evolution, much like territorial animals that do not feel safe when they smell something extraneous By the way my idea is that some of the diseases, be they of psycho nature or be they around immunity system, come as a result of humans denaturalising themselves, and doing so compromise their genetic-driven feelings and their immunity system Kind of unaware war against ourselves Extending the historic slogan, we should say "Make love, not war against your smell"

I lost my sense of smell and taste due to COVID 19 Fortunately only lasted a few days I love smelling nice things obviously, but it is very comforting the fact that we can smell danger too Anosmic, a new word for me today Many thanks BBC teachers I really enjoy your lessons
