After 2 years on SSDI you automatically get transitioned to retirement I was on retirement at 64 It's automatic and if you don't pay attention they'll wait till you owe 3 mos for Medicare and take it ALL out of one check! That hurts the budget Comment from : @CherylLynn65 |

Exactly Social Security doesn't pay based upon how many years you paid in, but the amount you earned A lot of people think just because they worked for 60 years they will receive the maximum when the truth is most people don't even get $1,500 a month and $195 of that is taken out for Medicare premiums which leaves you with around $1300 monthly So if you haven't saved for retirement, don't have a 401k or a pension you will have to work to supplement that income until the day you die because you won't qualify for food stamps or other programs because you no longer have dependants This is why I get angry when I see young healthy people popping out kids and using the welfare system to carry them through life because all those benefits come out of the social security fund These people are a huge reason disabled people and 80 year old grandma are expected to work, so they can pay for your kids Social Security is defined as welfare by the government There is a huge difference between Social Security recipients and welfare recipients in my opinion The working class people who don't care about the people that are struggling to survive on social security now are going to be sorry they didn't fight for social security recipients when they reach retirement age, because COLA raises get smaller and smaller every year and don't even come close to keeping up with inflation and haven't for decades By the time people who are in their 40s retire social security won't even be enough to cover your food expenses, and those who say it's ok because there is income based apartments, just remember the waiting lists right now are 5 years minimal, by the time you reach retirement age that time frame will have at least doubled People better start listening Raising the cap on social security doesn't fix the problem, it just allows the people that receive the maximum amount to receive more because COLA raises are determined by how much you are receiving If you receive $1,000 monthly and you receive a 25 Cola raise your check increases by $25 a month, but the kicker is your Medicare premiums go up by $15 so your actual raise is $10 a month, and keep in mind if you qualify for food stamps you will be lucky if you are granted $30 a month Be prepared and don't forget you were all good with it when others were crying they couldn't make it on what they were getting, but it will be a hell of a lot worse for future generations because the plan is to make massive cuts to social security and reduce or eliminate COLA raises for the next 4 years at least Better start paying attention to what is really happening instead of passing judgement on the disabled and elderly Comment from : @RebeccaWalker-e2i |

I understand it is not for comfort or luxury but with inflation since the 1950s it does not compute can we please advocate to raise disability benefits Over 98 percent of applicants are legit the application process is brutal it’s very hard to play the system you need doctor proof that you can’t work any job at all I know people who have no legs no arms or are blind or cancer who still get benefits Please advocate for the disabled !
