Is it good to get a job with a learning disability? What if your unable to socialize and rely on your family to prompt you to do other things Would she struggle with running a home afterward? I feel I would planning a day is impossible for me Sorry ranting a bit

i like portia she is beautiful inside and out she may be missing a chromosone but she is intellgent and caoable of working it just takes her longer i am on the autism spectrum i had an iep in high school for math and science i needed extra time on tests portia should become a model or a fashion designer God bless you Portia and your supportive family

Why doesn’t she actually try modeling, instead of fooling around trying to get regular jobs that are hard for her? Modeling would be perfect - all you do is try on clothes and her learning disability wouldn’t matter And she’s gorgeous!

So very pretty I hope she found her place in this world I had polio and I had a hard time finding a job I work for Goodwill for a week until I found out what they were paying me when I got out of high school At 25 somebody at a government shipyard went above HRO’s head and hired disabled people I work my way up and learn how to read radiation dosimeters instead of just handing them out I became a physical science technician and I’m retired now, and I met a fire chief there and he retired we would’ve been married 27 years but he died five years ago Let me tell you have to have a job to feel good about yourself

I was put in an experienced based career program in high school and it saved my life I could have been worse off than better off but i still have difficulties due to my past issues not many people can get accurately right

I got 8 bullets still in my back and drifting bone fragments from being shot by 22 long rifle bullets as well as 5 separate back fractures a imploded rib age from being raped by both adopted brothers and foster parents when I was 1 I survived multiple heart attacks from the medications they tried killing me with responsible for 564 other child deaths america seems like nazi germany to me after everything I've survived

The last 4 jobs I had they attacked me at work I was paralyzed for over a week after the last time I got attacked at work by another employee at Arizona family restaurant des found reason to believe there was harassment and descrimination in the workplace I got unemployment after being paralyzed for over a week and my injury never got better I never got a settlement only got temporary unemployment for another perminant injury

Wow I know how she felt no one wants to hire her just because she has a learning disability I went through this it sucks when you do not get hired from a job because you have a learning disability and just because your not as fast as other co workers that are normal and dont have learning disabilities ok I got yelled at work because I am not fast as other co workers or because I put pizzas in wrong boxes ok and was not my fault I keep on trying even with a learning disability

After that first one, mom seemed more upset than Portia and as a father of an autistic 18 year old who's articulating skills are very poor I want the best for him and for him to get out and be around community and not be like I was by choice and self isolated due to my anxiety Parents want the best for their kids

My 11yo son has several conditions that affect him both physically and mentally/intellectuallythat is to say Portia is more able all around This topic/issue is something I think about a lot, but seeing this regardless was still incredibly touching and reaffirms the fact that I'll never give up pushing my little boy to as far as he can make it❤️

Yep, how it is with someone with autism right here So glad I did manage to find a job after years She should also be referred to a job coach or employment specialist who'd do what mom did at 3:14 I got help building my resume and building my interviewing skills thanks to mine She also sent me jobs that'd fit with me, and I applied We were gonna maybe see about going the route mom did with her next possibly till I got a job

This is so much like my son with cri du chat He didn't want to do the transition program after high school, he just wanted to get a job Luckily we have a family friend who employed him part time He is now working with a program to try and get more hours and responsibility there It's so difficult

Unfortunately as our society progresses in the modern age, there are less and less and less jobs available for people with low IQs Most of the things that they can do are done by automation now, and often if not usually done better and more efficiently by the automation So most of the jobs that are given to people like Portia are at a loss of some sort, to the company, and wind up being either total or at least partial charity cases Portia has got the worst of both worlds; high functioning ID people who also "look" normal So she's smart enough to realize everything she's missing out on in life, but not smart enough to lead the life of wife, mother, girlfriend, flatmate, driver, uni student, etc It's way worse IMO to be like her, rather than someone with an IQ of 55, down syndrome, etc

I think being on the retail sales floor really wasn't a great fit for her because the only thing I notice about her disability is that she speaks very slowly It's tough to make a sale and keep a customer for anyone, but she'd be at a disadvantage there, and managers of those stores aren't going to hire someone just to put stock out The job she wound up getting looked like a much better fit I hope she's doing well today

I have always suspected that I may have an intellectual disability, or I'm very slow in general This coupled with social anxiety has made me reluctant to get a job, but I'm trying to get anything So far I haven't heard back for the jobs I have applied to I'm thinking about applying to be a volunteer at a retail store, but I feel like I won't even be able to deal with that
