alot of hype around the slabs it seems, prices seem to go ridiculously up on a coin, i have seen 2 basically identical gold sovereigns on eBay one went for 300 and the other for 360, seems crazy! Comment from : @potofjam8904 |
Moisture is the culprit Comment from : @georgelindsey7370 |
The truth is, plastics can absorb moisture to an extent and therefore permeate through Also, while the holder is sonically sealed it is not purged of oxygen, which along with moisture is a main cause for tarnishing and deterioration brbrWhat I think should happen is a holder should be made with a permanent one way valve or such that after the slab is sealed, the oxygen is purged by filling the slab with nitrogen, which is inert and stable Comment from : @louieatienza8762 |
If it's from west point i will buy it slabbed or not Comment from : @CastleDocrine87 |

I bet when I comes time to sell these graded coins for melt value, all that money to buy them, could have been used to buy more silver and gold Comment from : @jhowardj |
I agree that I would hate having a silver bullion coin tarnish or milk spot in a holder Even if I paid regular premium for it despite the holder and grade, I would still be bothered Comment from : @lioneyes8593 |
I think there is essentially no difference between an MS(or PF)69 and a 70 I am of the opinion that both PCGS and NGC on assign a certain number of 70s, like a quota So, maybe nine out of ten coins are graded 69 and one is graded 70 If you cracked them and sent them back, you would probably still get one 70, but it would probably be one of the coins they previously graded 69, lol Comment from : @douglaswilliams6834 |
After being an Amazon customer for over a decade, I'm currently waiting for a shipping label for my first ever order return, a MS70 2015 Chinese Panda PCGS which has some large red spots on it The seller (coin shop) had included two complementary buffalo nickels, as if that would make me hesitate on returning the no longer MS70 coin, one that should not have been sold as MS70 I paid $4985 and PCGS says in MS70 it's worth $46 Even though it's in a slab, the coin is a cull and worth spot That was my first and only Amazon coin order, henceforth I'll stick with ebay Comment from : @stepstepbrother6605 |
NGC and PCGS are the two most popular, reputable and widely trusted certification companies, and the grades they assign to coins are legit Yeah, believe it if you wish !!! 😳🤔🤣😂 Comment from : @rogerkinard7446 |
Great info man!! I have a slabbed round from some Dragons guy and I'm sure I overpaid for it!!!LOL Comment from : @rogers8381 |
Oh ya! I almost stole your sticker Saturday Comment from : @silverbalz4574 |
I almost never buy slabbed I have bought a couple slabbed eagles from Tim but they were MS69 and Tim sold them to me for the same as his raw eaglesI broke them out of the slabs as soon as I got them home 😂😂😂 Comment from : @silverbalz4574 |
I got two 1/2 once gold coins slabbed ms70 under spot on eBay Great video Yankee! Comment from : @perrya4878 |
Maybe it would help with deterioration if you stored in a box with some of those silica gel air dries? Comment from : @Thewulf56 |
Not to slab! I have to be able to get my gloved hands on my stack Something irritating about not being able to get to the piece inside Slabbed pieces are not something I stack anyhow, nothing against them, I just stack the best possible deals I can, and those usually do not fall into that bracket Great video! 👍 Comment from : @silverbush3673 |
nothing worse than a slabbed MS-70 which is milk spotted lol 🔥🐉 Comment from : @SilverDragons47 |
Informative, but keep the darn thing STILL while we have a look at it 3 out of 10 for video Comment from : @6ffm9 |

opinion on 80 Canadian silver? Comment from : @lukewilson3271 |
I like to play with my silver to much to have things in slabs but I do have a couple coins I would prefer to be in slabs just so I don’t mess them up Most the coins I see in the coin shops in slabs are not even worth the grading service fee’s thank you for great 16:16 minutes yankee Comment from : @savagestacker |

Hey Yankee, it has been a while I heard that your mother was having some health issues, so I hope things are improving for her It is tough caring for an aging parent I lost my mom to dementia a little over a year ago so I know how tough things can beAnyway, I came across something on Provident Metals website today and received an email from Provident as well It is not available yet but Provident will be carrying the 2019 San Francisco ERP silver eagle in the near future If you had to take a guess what their listing price for that coin is, what would you guess? If you guessed a little over $3K, you would be correct That is insane The thing is, I was able to get procure one of those coins from the US Mint back in November but I never sent mine in to be graded by PCGS or NGC I have heard that even coins graded as a PF 69 are going for about $1400 or so I've been conflicted about whether to hold on to it thinking it may even become more valuable down the road but who knows It might be time to flip it, besides I might be able to get an ounce of gold or a platinum coin and a tube of silver coins for that one ERP 2019 ASE Also, did you ever make a decision about that TV show you were pitched about preppers? Comment from : @John57945 |
People, bLEARN TO GRADE!/b It is a very, VERY long learning curve but well worth it When you can buy raw, the deals are ridiculous! Most dealers can't grade so I am able able to hit shows and routinely pick off coins for $20-$100 that are worth for $200-$500 Comment from : @marinegreensub |
One of the #1 rules of numismatic is, bBuy The Coin, Not The Holder!/b That means Slabs, including the assigned slab grade, any release designations and especially Certs, Presentation Boxes etc Think about it, the 2019 Reverse ASE has sold for $15,000, for a piece of bullion with a low cert number! The 2029 Reverse S PR70 has dumped to the $1,300 range and is falling like a rock, bso we are looking at almost $14,000 for a graded cert!/b Comment from : @marinegreensub |
The one thing I like them for is the validation For the expensive stuff like the rare Having said that, I don't have very many but you should check out my last coin show vid Comment from : @silverbeancounter |
Can Anyone" Tell Me" About Draped Bust Silver Dollar" Without Year MarkbrThat's What" I Have🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 Comment from : @donmackjones |
I do very few numismatic or slapped stuff now, but my bottom line is: if I want to buy a slapped coin, I will have to make sure that it has a special meaning, I will not care about the premium and I will not be selling it at least in the near future I've bought slapped things for my birth year and special occasions etc but I never just buy anything simply because it looked good I was just in New Orleans and I decided to buy a New Orleans Mint Morgan Dollar for souvenir The coin shop had several PCGS MS 65, but some of them had very visible scratches and tarnishes on them I had to pick the best one out of the pile So yeah, slapped coins could be a trap! Comment from : @zhicaofang2354 |
Coins like that are generally sent in to be graded in bulk and if so, at best that was $5 to get slabbed I'm kind of surprised that the dealer didn't realize that I know for a fact a dealer that gets Eagles graded in bulk by sending in full monster boxes, he pays $4 per ms69 and $7 per ms70 Comment from : @SilverSeeker |
I purchased many slabbed coins when I started stacking Big mistake imo Dealers hardly buy them back, especially the modern ones, like Eagles or Pandas When selling, I have to find individuals on platforms like eBay to be able to get rid of them My slabs are in hiding until the spot price doubles or triples from here Great info for the new stackers here Yankee! Comment from : @sanpedrosilver |
I dont own slabs and dont plan to All good info to know If I ever did want one, I would likely have overpaid before seeing this video Comment from : @judgestacker9472 |
Another myth is slabbed coins can’t be fake they most certainly can be fake And I got one of those Washington commemorative coins at my lcs for 8$ with box and coa Comment from : @stackhound4156 |
Slabs have their place, but the things you discussed in this video are real concerns, especially for the newer stackers in our community🔥🔥🔥 Comment from : @fiatdestroyer9716 |
I can understand having a coin graded and slabbed is not beneficial to stackers I collect numismatic coins as well as stack I've found it too make the buying and selling process much easier than debating over the grade of a raw coin Loved the video Thanks Comment from : @triumph928 |
My first bullion purchase was an ungraded Morgan that the dealer over charged me for A scummy dealer is a scummy dealer slab or no slab Comment from : @johnm1008 |
Thanks Yankee Just this morning I passed on a slab version of a bullion coin Maybe only $5 difference in price but really not worth it And to tell you the truth I wanna touch my coins!!!! Comment from : @beaddemon2572 |
Great video my friend I especially agree for modern coins But, in some cases they apply even for common graded for classic coins The bonus myth is "spot" on! Comment from : @SalivateMetal |
Hmmm, slab fee, or get another ounce of silver, thinking hard here Nope, going for the silver for my stack Slabs, eh Comment from : @jenette16 |
The few times buying slabbed coins makes sense is when it's the same price as a raw piece Especially if you are buying Chinese pandas brbrThink of the graded holder for NGC and PCGS as a premium you can get back when you sell on eBay You'd be silly to grade generic bullion, and no one does thatbrbrAlso, the slabbed reverse proof 2019 San Francisco ASEs that are all the rage are generally selling for more money than the raw version of the coin Comment from : @jcorona984 |
Great video, I'd be really upset to seeing my slabbed coins deteriate before my eyes Think I'll stay with buying the coin and not the slab I can see it if it's really rare and highly sought after Thank you for your video Comment from : @rodneyb947 |
WOW it only started in 1986 ??? that's crazy ! Comment from : @silverstanger1103 |
Yankee, I tried to slab my coins around a little bit and they didn’t go up in price Total myth jk 😂 Thanks for the vid, I absolutely concur on everything you said Only very unique coins that have a market should be certified There is to much in the market today just destroying what certification was meant for in the first place Comment from : @bordersurvivaltexas4332 |
I’ve purchased some cheap slabbed coins, modern proofs graded 69 for $3-$5 Comment from : @alexcoinrollhunter6836 |
The best thing I’ve heard about buying slab coins is - buy the coin not the slab - Comment from : @alexcoinrollhunter6836 |
I prefer slabs when dealing with older coins or more expensive precious metals Grading companies act as a pseudo-assayer in verifying the coin is indeed real Comment from : @indyxpbullion2422 |
Yup if I saw a slabbed bullion tarnishing, instant devaluation! Comment from : @corollaae8645 |
Graded coins are all about premiums Premiums are subjective, as in "how much is a person willing to pay for it?"brAlso, scammers can place gold plated lead in a fancy plastic casing Some are very skilled at placing crap in plastic Comment from : @RockyMountainBear |
if you go the NCG your coin is $31 I was always told if the coin wasn't worth at least $100 it wasn't worth getting graded Comment from : @armandofromthevault9775 |
My LCD often sells the graded 69 SAE for the same price as the raw onesWhich tells me she doesn't pay anymore for them In saying that we do occasionally get a Slabber if the price is right Good topic!👍😊 Comment from : @parttimepreppers9907 |
I'm no good at grading my coins either I can just look at them and say if it's in great shape, good,ok,or roached out Comment from : @JR-gw3by |
Hubby B and I are right now discussing our Gold Buffalo purchase coming up hopefully soon With a purchase that big Do you think it is OK to spend the couple extra dollars (relative to the price) to get an MS70 slabbed? Or, would you go the few dollars lower to buy a Random Year loose and save the few dollars treating it as straight Bullion? We’ve been cross referencing prices and Hubby B believes it is worth the little extra for the security of value it gives Your thoughts as a NON-Financial Expert?☺️👩🦳🏵 Comment from : @HodgepodgewithAngela |
Good post bud I have never been into slabbed pieces I am not really all that good with buisiness so flipping will always just be an unpleasant thing I am really looking forward to have the box arrive Heads up, there will be a mess of Tiny Tigers as part of my contribution WOOHOONeat post bud Comment from : @TomokosEnterprize |
I agree with Tim on his statements on slabbed coins Comment from : @electrumdrake8503 |
I would be extremely disappointed to see any of these 2019 ERP ASE's start toning in the plastic holders Comment from : @coinsilver |
good video thanks for the advise Comment from : @jlunaro |
Wow beautiful looking design Coin ever!!! :D brAnd Hit Like button!!! :D Comment from : @ocomegashadowstacking5886 |
