This can't be lesson one in the actual aircraft unless you have already spent a good bit of time with the student in a simulator Lesson one should not have any landings in it until finished Lesson one should be up at altitude showing primary controls and secondary controls You should practice flying a fake patter up at altitude so they know what to expect once you come back to land Helping them to understand the controls and how pitch and power are related is the first thing that should be taught Showing them how to properly trim the aircraft and fly with just three fingers Landings can come easy once a student knows how to set the power and work the controls It appears this student has already had some training

I will say a good tool for keeping the students eyes outside is to cover up the instruments We used to bring sticky notes for our students Now I'm teaching g1000 and I may just bring a piece of paper

I just did my intro flight yesterday, and first real lesson tomorrow This makes me feel better about how overwhelmed I felt after my first taste of the airplane controls It's a LOT of information all at once, even going in roughly knowing in theory how it all works

Explain trim like this: "if you're applying forward pressure, roll it FORWARD" br(taking hold of middle of trim wheel and flinging it up/forward) brbr"If you feel back pressure, roll it BACK" br(taking hold of the top of trim wheel and pulling back/down)

Weird I was always taught that you use the trim second pitch using ur flight controls and than set an approriate trim to make the aircraft stay at that angle Could be diffrent tho would love to hear your thoughts

Too much talking from the Instructor Pilot - should just be a lesson on emphasizing the visual references of VFR Also not enough emphasis on technical terms "Give me 23", should be "Set Power at 2300 RPM on the tachometer" A more specific instruction will translate exponentially when check-ride time comes, because the FAA Examiner doesn't know what, "Set power at 23" means The lesson is littered with these non-specific terms IMHO

Great video, I was looking for what to expect on my first lesson I'm just starting my ppl but have experience flying in my fathers C172I I was curious as to why the student constantly held onto the throttle Was he instructed to do so or was that overkill? Totally understandable as he is a new student pilot but I also could be mistaken Excited to start my training, thanks!

One thing to note that your instructor gotnot wrong but probably wasn't the best practice is that instead of turning off carb heat after you land, you should turn your carb heat off when you introduce your last notch of flaps on final so FULL power is available to you in case of a go-around If your carb heat is in and you forget, you won't have full power available for a go-around
