Anyone still here? I just used this method and it turned my bar black with tarnish Blew my mind I've sure this works but there must be some variable that I introduced that caused this opposite effect Comment from : @dane3038 |

You do NOT ever do this It destroys the value Decreases it 90 percent or so NEVER EVER EVER DO THIS! God this is one thing that makes me lose so much faith in mankind they want shiny shiny things even if it means DESTROYING the gorgeous aged petina on them It is NOT a bad thing, it shows age, it is beautiful /facepalm Comment from : @Necrodius |
I was only missing the cashews to do this, and I thought 'What do cashews have to do with cleaning coins?' I paused the video, thought for a bit, came up with nothing, and continued watching until 5 seconds later the cashews were mentioned Facepalm Comment from : @patrickhanley4629 |
You had me going there with the cashews, lol Comment from : @mesatop5 |
Older coins with high silver (like D Morgans which can have up to 90) are better to leave them develop a "coat" The should only be cleaned when they show a thick green rust, but otherwise they are valuable with the coat rather than shinning (unless they are eXtra Fine XF quality in which case they should have been placed and certified into a container to prove that the lack of coat/rust is due to preservation and not du to amateur cleaning Comment from : @erdvilla |
Off hand I don't know But I think there's probably a better method for copper cleaning Comment from : @Clint_the_Audio-Photo_Guy |
Would this also work with copper and wheat pennies? Comment from : @AlMa-qc9tw |
If I clean Morgan dollars, would they lose value I've been told never to clean Morgans or Peace dollars Comment from : @AlMa-qc9tw |
Would this make the coin weigh less or cause silver to leak out? Comment from : @AlMa-qc9tw |
Thank you! Glad it worked for you Comment from : @Clint_the_Audio-Photo_Guy |
It works & best of all, It didn't mess up the hologram silver eagle ! Awsome video ! Comment from : @philipyoung3030 |
Gold Tarnishes much less But it does oxidize some, but since this is a chemical reaction here for silver, I don't think it works on gold because gold has a different oxide Got to remember truly pure gold is pretty much impossible There's always some amount of impurity Comment from : @Clint_the_Audio-Photo_Guy |
I was under the impression that gold doesn't tarnish Silver tarnishes because of the oxidation right? I was always told if you have gold that tarnishes, it's not real gold (I'm talking about pure gold) Comment from : @MunkeySpaz |
nice Comment from : @bassembeshai8557 |
Great way to clean silver coins, I clean mine the same way, great video Comment from : @AngelSilverFourtySeven |
Don't use a metal utensil, even if you want to scratch up your coins A metal utensil will become part of the chemical reaction! :) Comment from : @drutter |
Yeah that might be too little silver content to work right This will work on 999 fine, 950 Sterling, and 90 junk silver for sure With 40 you may need another cleaning method I've never heard of that though Comment from : @Clint_the_Audio-Photo_Guy |
Simply dip your silver with tongs in ammonia and no, ammonia does not ruin pure silver, it actually eats at the sulphur Comment from : @fightnight47364 |
I've had to run it twice on some and dry the coins/silver in between, it seems to get most of it Comment from : @Clint_the_Audio-Photo_Guy |
Thanks! And no I don't think it would work on Gold, this is just for silver Comment from : @Clint_the_Audio-Photo_Guy |
First, nicely done
Also, if you dont mind me asking? Would that work for gold coins as well? Comment from : @arlindjax |
I use this procedure too But it doesn't always clean the coins up completely Some of them I have to follow up with using a tooth-brush and a mixture of baking-soda and water Comment from : @The8BitGuy |
like the noise the soda makes ssssszzzzzzzzzz ! is that addictive ? Comment from : @gasdorfymunchy2552 |
i got 8 eagles in my pocket , i want them to tarnish how many years does it take ? Comment from : @gasdorfymunchy2552 |
Add it? I don't know, maybe store the silver in poor conditions, like high humidity, exposed to air and for a long period of time, while handling it often, lol The silver will just do it by itself Comment from : @Clint_the_Audio-Photo_Guy |
how do you add tarnish to silver coins ? Comment from : @gasdorfymunchy2552 |
Thanks!
Comment from : @Clint_the_Audio-Photo_Guy |

I don't know what the affects would be on a gem stone, so I wouldn't try it Some stones may be fine others may not This is for silver only Comment from : @Clint_the_Audio-Photo_Guy |
I agree for coins with numismatic value, these however do not have value other than the bullion This is a common date half dollar and some junk silver dimes Comment from : @Clint_the_Audio-Photo_Guy |
There's another way to clean coins pour a coca-cola on your coins and let it stay there for an hour Comment from : @TheSilverlover999 |
