Well, the apple didn't fall far from the tree Your dad didn't get to experience retirement, and now, neither will you Comment from : @TheOpinionator450 |
This guy is overly optimistic and downplays how foolish he was with his money He and his wife may get about $4000 together Social Security, but they should expect a major change in their lifestyle Their l delay in investing until they are 60 shows a track record of bad financial decisions br They better not complain about not having enough in their retirement since they caused it themselves Comment from : |
My MiL YOLO’d her entire life When she hit her early 60s she hadn’t even earned Medicare and only spousal SS because one of her many marriages lasted ten years Her plan was to die at age 70 She’s 82 now and has been living off her kids for many decades It’s the ultimate selfishness to dump responsibility for your rotten decisions on your kids Comment from : @BusArch42 |
This guy will have to work until 80 because he's not smart Comment from : @rgroover007 |
The answer is bitcoin, if you’re willing to HODL for at least 4 years, you’ll see the highest ROI of any investment brClass of 2017 Comment from : @MichaelSiegle |
It's true that you can't take everything with you once you're gone, but live like you're going to live to 100! I certainly don't want to worry how I'm going to pay for stuff if I inherited my mom's genes of a long life My biggest mistake is that I didn't start taking retirement seriously a lot sooner (just a 401k with 10 going in initially), but I'm still a young mid 30's man with plenty of time I now have a ROTH 401k, maxed out IRA per year, and a decent savings going I wouldn't mind getting into some sort of additional "passive" income either Comment from : @blizbiggy |
Their reply should begin with "Well, dumbass " Comment from : @gabrielgolden4336 |
Depending on social security is dangerous enough, but to base your retirement on both you and your spouse's is even worse What if one of you dies 2 months into retirement? There goes that portion of social security Or if it is dependent on his candle sales, what if he goes first? What will she do? Comment from : @PotBellyPygmy |
I’v heard the same this caller mentioned, YOLO cause his dad died 6 months before retiring Whelp, this is how YOLO ends up when you live longer than expected brbrThis caller is delusional and being 60 with no retirement Optimistic characteristics is great but this guy is clearly out of his mind thinking he isn’t going to rely on SS in 5 years considering he has no retirement Good luck buddy Comment from : @Bartonhockey08 |
It’s depressing to think about all those likely matching employer contributions this guy missed out on for 40 years I realize we don’t know his employer offered them based on this call but just about all companies do Just getting the maximum match would have made a world of difference for this guy Comment from : @jerede7731 |
That guy George has no empathy, he is under the impression that people can plan thier lives financially, many people had a hard life and had to work with little income just to get by, even if its to late to really help them at most you can show a bit more empathy, not everbody has had the resources you have now, Dave Ramsey wasnt around back when Comment from : @jayclarke9546 |

Save for retirement even if you fear a short life! If you die younger, you can pass along your money to family or a charity If you live longer than you expect, you have something You'll have more peace while living either way! Comment from : @TShirtAndReeboks |
Ken, look up history on Yankee Candle Company in South Deerfield, MA Yes, there’s plenty of margin in candles Comment from : @daveg5018 |

No one ever mentions this but an HSA is only good if you can afford an insurance plan Here in Oregon my insurance would cost about $800 per month so it's not affordable Comment from : @SM-pc7io |

Most Americans find it hard to retire comfortably amid economy downtrend Some have close to nothing going into retirement, my question is, will you pay off mortgage as a near-retiree, or spread money for cashflow, to afford lifestyle after retirement? Comment from : @Beatricegove733 |
You're screwednext call Comment from : @joelmartinez2278 |
First off work till your 70 cause you need to max you social security income Don’t play to retire at 65 or even at 67 Second that gives you 10 years to try to save up something to subsidize your social security income Comment from : @Playingwithproxies |

That's crazy I get being worried about not living to see retirement But that's why you strike a balance Make some sacrifices today to be covered in retirement, but not so many sacrifices that you do nothing fulfilling Comment from : @Nonsense116 |
This is my fifth year after retirement I’ve been following the 4 rule thing, but this isn’t really how hard I expected things to be I still have about $460k outside funds in my IRA to invest in stocks Pls how do I take advantage of the market turnaround? Comment from : @kaitlyncranwick |

I retired for 2 years at 64, I worked in the automotive manufacturing industry for just under 30 years The second day I hired on the HR manager called me in, tell told me, start saving for your retirement now and start contributing as much as you can, because 30 years will come so fast He was so right I followed his advice with my first paycheck and never looked back We are very Blessed, I don't have to be concerned with our finances Comment from : @thecasualrver |

Honestly I don't want to retire if I could keep my job at 20 hours a week I would be happy I enjoy my job and what do you even do in retirement besides go on a cruise ship Family is always busy so you really aren't gonna be able to see family except the weekends just work from home doing consulting or data management or management we are all gonna die around 65 to 80 what are you gonna do for 15 years just sitting around? I get its a dream for some, but at 30 years old I have no idea what you do in retirement Comment from : @joehick8102 |

Well, enjoy working well into your 70s? He can tell himself that 67 is the age he imust/i retire at, but his finances will determine otherwise Most likely he'll get sucked into a couple get rich quick scams thinking he can make up for in risk what he lost in time, and end up broke and bitter Comment from : @bjkarana |

To be fair though… he took a risk He is right, we could all slave away at a job, save for retirement and pass away before being able to enjoy any of it At the same time the other risk is his situation I try to take both approach Work and save but also take cool vacations once in a while (especially between jobs) Comment from : @charliedallachie3539 |
