I need at least 10 years, in order to become fluent in English, and another 10 years to get rid of my accent, In total, it's 20 years It's not that many, is it? English is considered to be one of the easiest languages to learn (it isn't true, tho It works like that only in one way, if we take a look at the most spoken languages, English is going be one of them, so English is just the easiest to learn among the other most spoken languages) But i still really struglle to speak, read, and write in it I've been learning English for a few years now, however, there are too many phrasal verbs, idioms, and words and in general

El que se detuvo a leer esto solo quiero decirte que debes de creer, sumérgete en el idioma que estás intentando aprender, aprende nuevo vocabulario con repetición espaciada, no te rindas lee muchísimo en tu idioma meta y trata de entender la idea principal de la que se habla y poco a poco vas a adquirir el idioma y llegará a un momento que no necesitaras subtítulos para leer Si llegaste aquí y entendiste un 70 tu español es muy bueno y vas por un excelente camino, sigue así don't give up

I almost didn't watch this, but my sense of helplessness made me click I've been doing Pimsleur for 2 years now and while i have gained almost 80 of HSK1 and a sentence here and there, i almost always draw blanks and cannot simply "hear" it (Pimsleur is all about hearing it, with a grammar lesson sprinkled here and there) Some days I feel like I have made progress, but most days I feel utterly defeated one word in Chinese, say "dao" means 10 DIFFERENT THINGS depending on its tone and context and when you think you got a rule down, no there is some exception that throws the word to the other side of the sentence

To paraphrase Stephen Krashen you shouldn't try to "learn" a second language, you need to "acquire" it Listening, reading and speaking is more important than studying, flash cards, grammar lessons
