I use Bicarbonate Of Soda on a damp cloth and gently rub until desired effect is acheived

I've just found my first Silver but been advised not to clean it To be fair its in very good condition straight out of the ground It came from under a fallen tree Henry VIII Testoon brThanks for the vid I'm learning and all knowledge is welcome 👍

Amazed, you can actually see the depth improve in the before and after shots, that certainly removed a lot of crud!!brI tend not to mess too much with my coins, but thats mainly because i am lazy brI did clean a couple of really bad hammered silvers, and they turned out mega shinyas you say thats how they would look when minted, but they arent so appealing when looked at as a detecting findbrGreat series of videos incoming i feelbrCheers

Any hammy I find gets the spit and foil treatment but I never over clean it like to still have dark tones on the coinNever wash Roman coins only dry clean them

I enjoyed this video very much indeed Alex👍 Controversial, yes I am of the same opinion as you but it is often one that gets some quite upset The whole “never clean coins” standpoint of numismatists and their like is another example of a group of people who believe their opinions are so important that they feel the need to chastise those who don’t agree with them What they fail to realise is that not everyone values their finds in terms of pounds, shillings and pence or that beauty is in the eye of the beholder The best part was when you suggested darkening with bleach🤣 I could almost hear the groans of contempt I love that little coin and think it looks much better for it

Great video again since we’re talking controversy I clean mine if there quite black with foil and spit no rubbing just let it sit tightly squeezed in foil and spit for a minute or two and wipe off

I'm with you young man 😁👍 You found it, you own it My coins will stay with me for the rest of my life - I never sell (unless of course I find something of high value) so I have every right to enjoy them my way, same goes for artefacts Just realised my comment of "the rest of my life" has a much shorter expiry date than I care to think 😁😁 Bugger Hope all otherwise we'll, keep cleaning 😁👍

I think that turned out quite well, these coins have been rolling about for centuries in the soil and sometimes they need a little sprucing up, I might have to get some of that paste it looks very handy

Nooooo don’t clean silver hammered coins like that!! 😂 Generally I don’t clean them at all but I admit it is tempting clean coins that aren’t particularly important It can be good fun until you ruin a coin😂😂😂
