I use a cocktail stick, with generous amounts of olive oil and rinse in distilled water when finished About 4 hours each side of a coin 9:02

I use nothing to clean the coins, just a toothpick to remove the dirt, if it is too crusty or bad preserved, I gite them to my friend (lazy)

Hi Alex: For the approximate one hundred Roman coins that I have, I used an ultrasonic cleaner I used the recommended jewelry diluted cleaning solution and had exceptional results This approach is non-contact and non-destructive To preserve the cleaned coin, I use Renaissance Micro-Crystalline Wax Polish which is specific for restoration and conservation purposes Hope this helpsbrBest - Michael

Like the caveat to judge your coin first before deciding on the clean vs don’t clean Most found are for the finders enjoyment (in my opinion) but occasionally the find transcends the individual to be a rare find One needs to evaluate what you have before proceeding Thanks for the video!

I would guess (no knowledge) that an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner would simplify the process, but possibly seek research as to best chemical to use based on metal content of coin Inexpensive hydrogen peroxide will clean a lot of metals, and mild acids (lemon juice) or oxalic acid (active ingredient in Calcium Lime Rust remover may chemically lift crud without scratching the metal I've observed Archeologist using natural thorns the same way you are using the pen tips with the basic idea that the point will remove dirt and crud without scratching the metal PS That magnifier looks spectacular!
