Born in 72 so something like Tele and/or 70’s Deluxe Like the big headstock so that has always been on the list! Think 62 MIJ will the next acquisition or a 61 SG with Maestro Comment from : @seancook2264 |
How is a guitar unique if it has the same humbuckers as all the other ones? Comment from : @farber2 |
my favourite Tele of all time is the Nashville (MX) although I did remove the Fishman bridge and piezo Sounds amazing Comment from : @thejaysatspindrift |
Why do you keep looking left? Comment from : @NoName-gz2kk |
Thanks for the post I’m glad to hear you mention Sire I have a V7 bass and I think it is the best bass for the money I was hoping the guitars were the same brDo I like it more than my USA fender p or G&L 2000? No, but the sire was less than 1/3 the cost Comment from : @barondavis5692 |
nice video! but its a shame squire didn't make the telecaster deluxe for lefties!! I feel discriminated!! I'm not a professional musician that's why I don't go for the fender, any ways great video and excellent information!! Comment from : @pitoytoy19 |
Love me some tele! Comment from : @mikebauer6917 |
Squier J5 can't be beat for the price Comment from : @chrisbarnhill5216 |

I have recently purchased a Chinese Kapok brand Tele, it's made of mahogany, neck and body, which has an arm chamfer and a belly cut, it has two humbuckers, overwound with split coils off a push-pull tone control, the volume tone and 3 way are repositioned more like a strat, it has a strat-like headstock, painted black and the fingerboard is purple heart that looks and feels like ebony, it also has a 2 point strat bridge with rear cut out for the claw and springs and its finished in a 2 colour tobacco sunburst with top binding in white with the back and sides of the body, neck and headstock are stained dark red, it looks great, sounds great, weighs 7 lbs, 12" fingerboard radius delivered to my door in Sydney Aus for $330 American How they do a guitar like this for $300 I don't know, I'm hoping it's not a oroduct of slave labour, I recommend you have a look at on of these, maybe do a review, tell us what you think of them, I am very impressed at the fit and finish for such a low price point, G'day from Andy in Australia, keep up the good work Comment from : @AndrewTait-f2w |
Nice comprehensive look at Tele's I had my eye on a 70's Thinline in natural finish, I tried a fender MIM re issue and I didn't like the neck I couldn't find the Squier version in a store, so I ordered one, I really like it, but it doesn't do the twang thing, which I am alright with! I mostly play an Epi Les Paul 100 modded with import PAFs, it is a cheap, weight relieved model with upgraded pots but the original pickups were the same as the Special (ugh) The two guitars give an incredible variety tones, the LP has a scooped sound and the Tele a little less bass and more midrange For cheaper guitars they work well Comment from : @NWLee |
If only they'd switch the humbucker to the bridge for custom that would be an all around workhorse for people who want single coil warmth on the neck and play heavy rock on the bridge Comment from : @Funkfreed |
1951 American PRO 2 Comment from : @MrTupeloFlash |
Don't agree with any of this guys choices Squire - you must be joking The 50s, 60s models are way too expensive and have very noisy single coils All the Deluxe models have a design fault - 250k pot electrics which makes them too dark sounding And Fender have never made a good humbucker pup imo Comment from : @peterhughes8699 |
I want to own that in my dream Comment from : @eddiemerquillo |
I really enjoy your videos I play keyboard, guitar and other instruments and can identify the real teachers from the amateurs (many of whom are good) You are a pro! I bought a Telly Nashville (shown in the pic) They say the instrument was created at the request of Nashville session players who wanted the traditional Telly sound and a strat sound so they put a strat pickup in the middle So it’s a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll like Donny and Marie😎 Comment from : @Professorjeffsd |
Great post! Much appreciated 👍 Comment from : @BrianHarbut-v5k |
Informative, thank you Would be interested in your opinion on the Strat-style sculpted body contours of the Deluxe (I think) Teles? Comment from : @Moykel |
Man, I’m so glad you mentioned Sire They are the best bang for your buck! I absolutely love my white antique Sire T7 I’ll never sell it! Close your eyes and you think you’re playing a top of the line Fender Comment from : @MrMfalzone |
Got an '09 Baja for less than 1/2 of what theyre going forthe neck is based on the early 50's necks that Tadeo Gomez made for Fenderwith the same "broadcaster" bridge p/u from the custom shop and a twisted tele neckCAME STOCK!brbrExcellent all round Comment from : @brandonrook4996 |
I vote for the one that's not on the list, 1983 Tele, and I agree with you on the HH FMT Comment from : @georgeperillo6421 |
I wanted the Crimson Red Deluxe for a long time I found a Squier Deluxe Double Fat Telecaster for trade with EMG 81/85's in it I'm picking it up soon! Comment from : @dgs5809 |
Players always on about thickness of the neck , I am more interested in the length as I have small hands ! Comment from : @geraldhills41 |
last one was a prs disguised as a tele Comment from : @marrksr3971 |
The Baja blows the new Vintera ranges away For a start it has the ash body like the vintage 50s telecasters did The Vintera range costs so much more than the Baja for so much less Most of the Vintera 50s have an Alder body which is incorrect for the era that they mimic If you can find a BajaSnap it up fast Comment from : @pauljohnson3686 |
So can you switch out the humbuckers on the Squier 72 thinline for the wide-ranging humbuckers of the original ‘72? Comment from : @Baci302 |
Why are the Baja and Roadworn Series the same guitar in the video? Comment from : @Fishrokk |
Great choices and descriptions — I'm puzzled why, in describing the physical differences and different looks among the Tele variations you featured, you never mentioned the binding on a couple of the versions you showed us Because I think it makes those Teles look very different from the others that don't have binding I think the binding looks cool — immediately very eye catching Comment from : @senseiruss |
Love my fender amer pro ii deluxe Also my 13 amer deluxe thinline Comment from : @tbee65 |
no Nashville Tele? I always wanted one Comment from : @frederickvondrasek5618 |

If you have a little more to spend, the Fender Vintage ‘52 Hot Rod Telecaster (made in America) has the mini humbucker the neck and vintage single coil bridge pickup 95 inch radius Comment from : @CatharticGuitar |
Thanks for another awesome video👍👍 Comment from : @sdbracht |
I have a 57 telecaster blonde/white,excellent to mint & completely originalVery happy with it!! Comment from : @Randyman4126 |
I have the fender 70’s Mexican vintera thinline with the wide range humbuckers, came in on offer for just under £1,000 and in shell pink! It’s a beauty! Comment from : @chloechadwickmusic |
Darrel, tech advise? I swapped out pickups in a Squire I can’t seem to mount the pick ups at the proper height I am finding the spring mounts under the puck guard to be problematic Any advice on this??? Comment from : @GetInShapeWithDavid |
Just got a Sire T7 with roasted maple neck & fretboard, locking tuners, etc Pickups are great Highly recommend Comment from : @texanfournow |
Hi Darrell, thanks for your job and all the reviews ! Happy new year to you! I have a Tele (neck) question for you: How is the feeling of the Baja neck (chuncky and gloss) compared to the new american vintage II ? Let me explain: I could try the 51 and 63 Tele (Fender) I do prefer a not-so-chuncky (so the 63 neck / or Pro II / Or nashville) but either the 51 and 63 had the same sticky gloss My Hendrix strat (repro, not the custom!) has a gloss neck but really feel like satin, not sticky I spotted a Baja on internet and the seller said that the gloss is not sticky as ohers Waht's your feling / advice about it? (too far for me to try it) Thansks ! Dom Comment from : @dt2883 |
I got 2 Telecasters, but technically no Telecasters, because they are a '60 style Esquire and a Telecaster Deluxe with twin CuNiFe WRHB Comment from : @djsangre |
You ever reviewed a VINTAGE brand V100 LP style guitar? I've just acquired one for £249 it's absolutely unbelievable value would love to see you check it out 🎸 Comment from : @MJG817 |
I I have a 1972 model fender telecaster custom It was bought in the spring of 1973 by my parents as gift for passing my grade to the 9th It is a walnut brown with a black pick guard Plus s maple neck and the little T for the strings to go through I was wondering how much money it would be worth at being 50 years last year in 2023 Yes it is a 1972 model boats in 1973 in spring it would be greatly appreciated thank you Comment from : @EdgarCPrice |
Mate, your dark horse became my main one (having two players of fender and sire version as well) Thank you for the previous video on fender tele les paul! It has run the purchase! However I need to admit that sire telecaster and Mexican polarwhite playerseries by fender are gorgeously looking and sounding as well!😊 Comment from : @bartoliouz8331 |
No Nashville tele? Comment from : @rickleefs |
I sold my Baja before going to uni - and it was the worst mistake i have ever made Guess i'll have to start saving Comment from : @samuelkurth9676 |
What are your thoughts on the Nashville Telecaster? I have owned one for years and love it It plays better than many I’ve tried costing much more I was disappointed you didn’t mention it Thanks for your thoughts Comment from : @richardsobieck9660 |
So I have the Squire HH in the American Series… which I think is a good Deluxe equivalent for a lot less Comment from : @danny_the_K |
I tuned in for info and got a commercial Comment from : @G1951-w1y |
Tele neck is better and Tele neck will jazz so your wrong on that one Strats sound awful and are only sought after because hendrix hid the awful tone of one with a fuzz pedal, SRV hid the awful sound of obe with 2 tube screamers and Clapton sent hos Strat back to Fender because us sounded awful and demanded it be rewired to spund more like a Les Paul, your Strat frok Guitar Centre will spund nothing like these - it'll just sound awful Comment from : @ushnicyuvnikof2748 |
My two disaster De Lux Teles - mud All mud No vibe! Why did i buy the second one?????????? madness Comment from : @neilritson7445 |
The Les Paul Jr is the best tele Fender never made Having said that, I have a cheapness Squire tele that I bought back in the day of the caveman Scratchy pu switch and jack Noisy as hell Thin neck The tone has dropped many panty’s Comment from : @robertleslie2467 |
52 hotrod reissue🤘😎🤘👍 Comment from : @patriotic80 |
I have the newer version the roadworn tele and it really is phenomenal It feels like an American tele that someone really played for 30 years So comfortable When I showed my guitar teacher, he had no idea whatsoever it wasn't an old guitar Comment from : @faethe000 |
If you want to get technical The telecaster Deluxe was the answer to Gibson's answer to the telecaster LoL the Les Paul was the answer to the telecaster so for fender to try to one up them with an answer is like answering their own question 😂 But nonetheless it's great and that fmt hh looks amazing it's the best of both worlds Comment from : @Ledzepfan88 |
Darrel, thanks so much for always being such a positive, transparent, encouraging, and anti-snob conte t creator with your reviews In a market and culture so full of elitism and mysticism that potentially shrouds the fun of creating art and music, you’re a bright light brbrKeep creating amazing videos Comment from : @jamesong1091 |
I have a hard time deciding for a particular Fender, but I like the 50s for being the essence of an electric guitar, the Nashville for versatility, and Thinline and the Custom, both with CuNiFe humbuckers, for being something special and really cool Outside of Fender, I'd probably go for a Schecter PT Special! While keeping the essence of a Tele, it improves on a lot of its quirks: Contoured body, P-90 in the neck, better control layout, and some unique touches, paired with a really nice quality Comment from : @VeitLehmann |
The Schecter and esp tele’s are nice Comment from : @tonybrown7847 |
Why not a Washburn Nele? Comment from : @samnmaxforever |
Also Suhr and CNZ Audio makes really quality telecasters 2 Comment from : @khoehl1525 |
This was SO helpful to me Thanks! Comment from : @BabyBoomerChannel |
I am a Tele man I just ordered a FMT because I hate LP necks but need the sound I also ordered it because of you… so I hope you’re right on this one!!! No pressure brother! 🤣 Comment from : @ericleary5075 |
I really want a Deluxe Tele with the Strat headstock With split coils so it can cover Les Paul and Tele territory Comment from : @joeblankenship377 |
I can't explain exactly why But I really don't like Telecasters or T-style guitars that have humbuckers! Maybe it's the break with tradition I also don't like the thin-line or f-hole telecasters What's wrong with me? Comment from : @jshphysicistatyahoo |
The second iteration of the Baja Telecasters didn’t have the fat neck Comment from : @powbobs |
G&L ASAT with Jumbo MFD's > literally any Tele ever (and I adore tele's) Comment from : @jacksmith4460 |
Tosin Abasi has a crazy weird shaped Tele guitar available and I wonder if what you would think of it Comment from : @SpartanLaserCanon |

Try a JA90 for a Thinline… and my other one is a late 90s Deluxe with 3 Lace pickups and Strat switching Comment from : @JamesThomas-zl9er |
Your past review of the Schecter PT Special was the final reason of resulting to fatten up my Tele with a P90 neck pickup and of over 5yrs of upgrading, that was the best one next to installing a 4-way switch Comment from : @brodclark334 |
Get the tele with the Greg Koch's Fishman Fluence Tele Pickups Those pickups are a game changer for me Beautiful classic early 50s and 60s tones Comment from : @niteriderband4713 |

That black 60s Tele with the gold hardware looks awesome It goes great with the rosewood fingerboard Comment from : @Baci302 |
Great round up I have a Korean FMTHH (5th one) in cherry red I totally agree with your comments regarding playability, I always gravitate to this tele over several more expensive and good guitars I own Its comfortable to play either sitting standing and the Semore Duncan pu sound superb I've gigged it for ten years in several cover bands, it's just so versatile and takes a beating when used in (PUNK) anger Comment from : @millichips1 |
I have 4 teles, my fave, being a 2017 american custom deluxe, in natural finish, over a swamp ash body Btw, i live in winnipeg, what part of our once great country, do you reside in? Comment from : @jimoverly5386 |
Good video Thanks buddy Would be nice to eventually see a Review of DIY kit guitars Don't know if you've done one before 😎👍👌💯👋🎸🎸 Comment from : @mikestroud9969 |
I have no argument about the range of Tele's you're showing but you're forgetting about the pickups What they look like or how they play is a side issue afaic Which ones have ceramic and which the alnico But thanks for a straight forward review of these model Darrell Comment from : @randooser |
Thank you for this honest demonstration of the TELEs I own two G&Ls (that last Leo Fender did) Like the way you promote these 'foreign made' TelesbrThank you for this Comment from : @antoniodalfonso |
I love that black 60s tele Beautiful Comment from : @Tsudkyk |
Which of these Telecasters have No Hum ?? Comment from : @MegaPortenio |
My first Tele was the Vintera 70s Custom in fiesta red, definitely the first guitar I ever bought that I knew I'd never get rid of no matter what! The only thing I've changed on it is the bridge, put a stetsbar on it and it's absolutely killer! I love the pickups so much too, of any Tele I've played since the bridge sounds especially hot and the wide range neck pickup is buttery smooth! I don't plan to swap the pickups out any time soon, it literally sounds perfect Comment from : @-k-b- |
