What camera did you use to shoot this vlog? Looks so steady Comment from : @MnMPeace |
What camera did you use to record this video though? Comment from : @rahulrajrai1996 |
It’s still a point and shoot with barrel distortion , Sony is very good at marketing and giving their cameras to YouTubers who in return please them praise the camera , the zv1 has same internals and color science and is $600 on sale , when Sony stuff is praised by you tubers do your research it’s a sign they are trying to move units that aren’t selling , there’s a reason why the g7xii and iii are still back ordered and this camera isn’t , it’s because the g7x works and is $600 less Comment from : @tronarat |
Mate, you should have taken some portraits too, so we could get a better idea of photographing people Anyway, how are the colors on this camera? Comment from : @TheRgxSingh |
I think your expectations of a 200 millzoom handheld at arms reach are unrealistic for sharp images particularly given that the aperture is what it is at 189mm Comment from : @downsouthsafaris6788 |
Can this take better pictures than an iPhone 16 pro Pardon me if that’s a stupid question Comment from : @WozOnKeys-rf1di |
I guess when I think about a camera like this what I’m really curious about is how does it compare to flagship camera phones This would be a step up from a phone as someone trying to learn and improve, instead of a step down from professional cameras Comment from : @jeankirchner1118 |
Got a fitting for the front of the camera plus 10 stop ND comes with a lens cap as well ---love it Comment from : @lindakantes873 |
Oh my God, I'm getting this Cute lil Beast Thanks for this 🙏 Comment from : @atanuly |
I had this famera for 3/4 years, its a good camera however i upgraded to Nikok ZF - well worth the upgrade Comment from : @BillyMahmood |
Sad I didn't get one of these before they became super popular in the last 2 years or so You used to be able to snag an m1 or m2 for $200 or less Now that's more like $350 in the states at least Comment from : @NotaKnot |
Rx100viiA is out in 6weeks is same with a few tweeks😊 Comment from : @steviejames3343 |
Totally agree on IQ even compared to APS-C Plus, my phone has a great camera (Xiaomi 14 ultra) And yet I am hanging on to the RX100V I guess is the combination it is a nice piece of machinery uncanningly compact fro its specs, plus it is a "real camera" you can fidget with real controls for shutter, aperture, ISO without using touchscreens or menus it has an EVF! I like all that For some reason I end up using it a lot for B&W shoots Comment from : @jacopovalentino |
Love my RX100iv with its 1,8-2,8 lens Yeah, it has less zoom But I didn`t miss that feature so far So no need for an "upgrade" Comment from : @allestoll397 |
Good vid, very helpful thanks Comment from : @Juniar101 |
go canucks! Comment from : @911KNCM |
Great vid Although we need more trees Comment from : @Colin-pg2su |

Thanks Henry for creating this video It was extremely insightful :) Comment from : @sensingturtle |
I take a lot of artistic license with my images I have no problem using Gigapixel AI with an image like this Comment from : @ZappaBlues |
really thinking about selling my Ricoh GR3 and buying one of these… the zoom is intriguing Comment from : @Matthewa0227 |
Isn’t it time to update this camera Sony? There are a lot of improvements I can think of 🎉 Comment from : @SirTubeALotMore |
I love mine The best camera is the one you have available at one moment The portability/quality ratio is perfect for my travel requirements Comment from : @Icelandlover |
"Comparison is the thief of joy" I loved your phrase, I have never heard it before I own an RX100 M7 too, and I love using it I am amazed about so many videos posted about this little camera, even it being 5-6 years old Too bad Sony did not do a successor (yet?) Comment from : @IgnacioCuriel |
Im interested in compact cameras as someone coming from a phone and looking for a way to step up without a complicated exchangeable lens setup Would love to see details re: how it compares to a phone Comment from : @Boozecruiser911 |
What mic you use ? Comment from : @valentinasanchez4471 |
Today I tested ZV1 and realized that I would be better off with rx100vi but it's also 500 bucks more expensive Comment from : @andriykovach2736 |
1 inch sensor rubbish product Comment from : @platino536 |
The Sony RX100V 24-70mm f18-28 is my choice 75 of photos are taken within this focal range from low light to medium tele situations Sadly, you can’t get a new one today Comment from : @franciscojrgo3061 |
I have this camera Yes, it's great I would agree that it's by far the best portable camera for image quality that is out there That said: 1 it's not weather proofed, not shock proofed, and not waterproof This camera will not survive a fall, drop, or moisture Given it's price-around $100000 (USA) I would strongly recommend that hikers consider the Olympus TG-6 (not 7-due to increased cost with not significant improvements) For example: in a few weeks I'm going skiing but due to the cold I can't use the RX outside, so will use the TG-6 Comment from : @pf4773 |
I had an old Canon point n shoot from the early 2000s; gee it was amazing Dented the little lens close cover thing, and so now broken :( Comment from : @scottsworld |
No the GRIII is better Comment from : @jb2lk |
As nice as these cameras are, micro four thirds cameras tend to have a more acceptable compromise between size and image quality imo, and are much nicer to use with more engaging physical controls And you can have the option of mounting a tiny 75mm UWA prime brbrI was not happy with my RX100 IQ so rarely used it was much happier with a GX80, although it had less megapixels :) Comment from : @dogblessamerica |
So, for someone who used to have lenses and bodies; I'm heading to Nepal in 2026 This camera or say a Sony 6100 with two lenses (sigma)? Probably a budget of $1500usd Comment from : @DM-fv7hw |
Haha i use my RX100iii at times when i wish to travel real light I am on either smart auto or normal auto 90 of the time to capture the moment and ease of usage Nv had any complains for the portability and versatility But got to tell yourself cannot compare images to a high spec apsc or ff for sure Comment from : @dchai |
i appreciated this honest review v v v much, especially the part about the image quality Comment from : @lukasbabic7001 |
SONY HX99 24MM-720MM Comment from : @khorfranky9619 |
Sad reality, global shortage Comment from : @KashPapi10 |
Great video I have the Sony RX100 V and thinking of moving to the RX100 VII I give up the 18 and built in ND filter but I’d like the extra 100mm-200mm range Still undecided Comment from : @ibloodyloveridingmybike |
I have a Panasonic small camera which also has a viewfinder, an essential i feel Comment from : @dozerblade |
I'm wondering why Sony doesn't release the new version of it?! Comment from : @Hamidammanhamid |
The problem with this range of Sony compacts is that they are too COMPLICATED to find your way around to the point I sold mine and moved on to the Leica D Lux 8 Comment from : @allanwiener230 |
We've owned it since the day it was released and its been great, but video stab leaves much to be desired, the lens has huge reach but a bit dark, and recently we got mold inside the lens because of the tropical humidity Still shooting though Comment from : @SupraKeroGaz |
When I was your age, I carried heavy DSLRs and lenses to include other heavy photographic equipment and frowned on small frame cameras whose raw file photos can't just compare with full frames Now, I'm pushing towards my 80's and I have with me only a small compact, Sony RX100V 18-28 24-70mm zoom, to keep on shooting In essence, small cameras are for those who can no longer lug bulky DSLRs and lenses (like me) and as tradeoff has to contend with mediocre raw file images compacts produce Comment from : @butchgo5346 |
It just convenient for travel Comment from : @sharonbennett3318 |
My takeaway is that this camera doesn't suit your needs well You were ultimately not happy with the image quality and it didn't go wide enough for your style As far as the Title question of "is it the best?", well you don't even attempt to answer that question so I guess it is to be determined Comment from : @minesaver |
I just purchased a brand new one of these in Canada off of Sony‘s website I guess they release them every once in a while It was brand new in a box sealed, etc The RAW capability that the camera has really helps a lot and getting the most out of the 20 megapixels, I find Also, there are magnetic filter attachments that go onto the lens at the front I find out what I need to get as an option is the lens hood that magnetically attaches to the front and the little rubber grip that goes on the front to hold it better Comment from : @jimandsheilaflood |
A quick and simple question: what did you expect to see from a foggy and far mountain? Comment from : @AfGun01111 |
Wow what a beautiful place to shoot video❤ Comment from : @SairamChinnarathod |
What did you use to shoot this video? Comment from : @_zed |
Hello! have a question for you I'm not a photographer and haven't really used a modern camera before My wife and love to travel, and my cameras for all our trips have basically been an iPhone 15 Pro Max for video and a Pixel 9 Pro XL for photos Lately, I've been thinking about getting more detailed and richer photos from our trips, so immediately thought about buying a more powerful dedicated camera Would this Sony be a good fit for me? Are there other options that might be better? Or should not buy anything at all? XDbrThank you! Comment from : @kyrylooale8320 |
Good honest review, helps for people like us that used to with good camera but trying to find a decent small travel camera, inage quality is important to me but size is second Comment from : @sdutango |
I've seen some test results of earlier versions of the rx-100 series that seriously put doubts on their ability to capture fine detail (ie retain contrast on a pixel level) The problem is not the sensor, but the zoom lens fixed to it, which suffers from some of the same problems as zoom lenses for dslrs dobrCan't say for sure if this is to the same extent the case for the latest version, but my experience has been that changes to these are incremental in nature, with physics putting the limit of what can be achieved with the form factor Comment from : @LCTesla |
Used to have a few of these small cameras In the end, they all fail due to dust or being dropped They are just too delicate That's why I do 100 smartphone only now Comment from : @PLAN50 |
Beautiful images, Henry I have traded with MPB's USA outlet I have gotten great gear from them and it's always been super easy Comment from : @TheStarHound |
It is totally overpriced for a five years old camera, even second hand Panasonic zs100 and zs200 are a much better option, considering that they are available for half the money Comment from : @RG-pe8nr |
What’s that little case it’s in? Comment from : @RiverRambles1 |
The best compact camera? Sony a7cii - simply incredible, considering its size When paired with the right lens, it’s actually smaller than the 6700 😮 Comment from : @RunningInSuits |
why is there a German plate? :D Comment from : @adventureboy1495 |
Are the vlog shots (eg the Wide Angle section videos) also using the RX100? If not, curious what you're using to film yourself :O Is all the outdoor and indoor vlogging with the Osmo Pocket 3? :O Comment from : @adityakapoor8055 |
how detailed do you want your review to be??brHenry : Yes Comment from : @KING234 |
I have an RX 100 iv, mainly for the fast 18 - 28 lens image quality is superb, I've added a self adhesive 52mm filter ringso I can use my many filters and close-up auxiliary lenses Comment from : @daviddunmore7076 |
Very nice video , can you compare the Sony with mobile phones like vivo or oppo Comment from : @amerkhalil1989 |
Just curious why Sony not producing next version ? Comment from : @senthilvelsivakumaran9694 |
Professional here looking to buy this camera Truly appreciate your honest reaction and slight dissatisfaction Comment from : @MoserTimmy |
is it the newest? Comment from : @othmane767 |
Exactly what I need for my landscape images when I’m in the Alps 🎉 Comment from : @StewartBell-im8qg |
Optical zoom? Comment from : @YOu_R_OwnLighT |
Thank you Comment from : @YOu_R_OwnLighT |
I had the MKI years ago and it was OK The small sensor and associated problems became too annoying though Also, I rarely used the Zoom I sold it and bought a Ricoh GR and was much happier The image quality is great I still use the GR and it's about ten years old now Comment from : @raytrace2014 |
I want to buy one but I feel like sony is going to announce a new version anytime now Comment from : @Paulo-i9h |
I have a Pen-f and LUMIX micro four thirds Recently spotted a new RX100 Mk III at a great price on Amazon and bagged myself a fantastic camera Whoever said the Panasonic LX100 is a better camera completely misses the point These bring the meaning of ‘Compact’ to another level It’s an incredible camera The size just blows me away Comment from : @mikerivers9634 |
thanks for this wonderful video, i´m using a sony rx100M5a since 4 years now on most of my hiking trips, its perfect because of the small size and less weight i´m very happy with the image quality to be honest I also shot on a full frame A7IV with GM lenses, which are heavy and big, i dont want to carry them around for 8 hours a day now i´m looking to get the RX100 VII because of the longer focal lenght, the V has only 24-70mm and especially on landscape, i really dig the shots i make at 200mm with my 70-200 lens (if i decide it to bring with me on my shorter hikes) Comment from : @ChrrZ |
if it helps you can reduce the shutter speed to about 15 and reduce the ISO as needed about a fort of what you have set to at 30/1 and in smartphones which I use to take photos this helps a lot with noise of the small sensor Comment from : @yehenbimsara |
I wonder what the low light programs on the camera would have done with this photograph? Have Sony researched and implemented a low light program that would’ve improved matters? Comment from : @nathanwolf5547 |
The price still has not drop 🥲 Comment from : @timl4286 |
I have the original and use it everyday! Comment from : @holycowtube |
What we really need are Micro four third compacts with built in lenses Imagine a properly engineered micro4/3 camera with a small zoom, optimized to be small The image quality, DOF, noise etc will blow 1" sensors and smartphones away but it will still be smaller than ANY APSC or Full frame setupbrbrThis is the market for Micro 4/3 imo because lots of people want compacts but often those people are photographers looking for every day carries who are disappointed in the reduction in quality, OR they are average consumers who see no difference with their smartphone because those are also 1" or nearly 1" sensorsbrbrImagine the Lumix LX100, but further optimized to be smaller Comment from : @okyeabuddyguy |
How does this compare to GRiii? Comment from : @suisinghoraceho2403 |
My 10-year-old Nikon Coolpix A has a larger sensor and is just as light Comment from : @chrissobotta1711 |
