these numbers still confuse me We did a budget a few months back - removing our mortgage and car loan etc means we can live on less than half our current income And way less than the moderate figure I honestly struggle to see how that breaks down If you’re miles away from retirement it can be a finger in the air But if you’re further along, do your own budget and work out what you won’t need in retirement - you might be surprised how much it reduces your needs

The absolute bare minimum for me to pay my bills is about 20K a year That’s not living very well but surviving I’m aiming for about 40k a year and I’ll be ok

It’d be good to see a video that shows much income a family with children needs to have a reasonable standard of living in 2025 I’m sure the results will be surprising about ow much it really costs People who think incomes are high when in fact they’re not due to living costs

A few years ago my projections along with using PLSA predicted my wife and could probably semi retire 60-63, fully 63 onwards with hopefully the state pension kicking in at 68 That was on track for comfortable, now that looks to be basic living standard! Wtf man cost of living and inflation is messing with our plans! I guess we'll have to delay/double down on savingbrWe are both 52, both lucky to have db pensions though we need to max out the Mrs as she hasn't got full pension years Fingers crossed we get to retire before 68 😅

If I am correct the figures quoted are after tax Ok you avoid NI when you stop work but there would be large income tax liability You would likely need an income of £75k gross to get to £59k which is comfortable level brI have looked at this many times and it tells me that early retirement is not that easy I started with view that 57-58 was retirement age target but think early 60’s is more realistic There are key risks of inflation and stock market fall soon after retirement and state pension changes You need some safety cushion in your plan

£43,100 is already above the max annual pension that you can receive, after tax and assuming no use of PCLS, without creeping into the 40 income tax bracket (£42,570) Fiscal drag is having a diabolical effect on what a lot of folk had originally assumed was a reasonably conservative estimate of required pension income

I think we need to rethink retirement to semi retirement I don't really ever see that I'll fully stop working part time in my 60s with some voluntary work I would like to see the government setup a child sipp policy so they can appreciate compounding
