Thanks so much for posting this Bought a banjo probably 15 years ago got so I could get a basic tune out of it, eventually my son wanted to learn to play it so I gave it to him I got it back 4 years ago when my son suddenly passed away It had a broken 5th string, no picks, no tuner and no capo I put it away and had no motivation to play itbrIn the 4th anniversary of his death I ordered some strings, finger picks, and a tuner, and just got it set up yesterday, still need to get a thumb pick and a capobrStumbled across your channel yesterday, you are a very good teacher and I'm hoping I can learn all the things I forgot, and more from this seriesbrThanks again for these excellent step by step videos to help ease me back in Comment from : @FreeFlyFreak69 |

Good Morning: Jim I got a couple of questions I been trying to practice to learn the banjo I try to follow your You Tube video you say it easy, But I got to disagree or I'm just a idol I been trying for 3or 4 months And I not doing any better I don't always hit the right string I got look at the string to even try to play it When I try to chord a note it's sound like a elephant standing on the string I said I give myself a but I thought I get better but it's not I took one lesson and it just embarrassing I never tried to play a instrument but it very difficult I think I'm 60 years old I'm about ready to give up & I don't give up easily Thank You Comment from : @MavinCrawford |

Hey Jim,brAlways wanted to learn the banjo Hopefully 50's is not too late As a kid, the folks had me taking piano lessons for a bit, but it never really clicked and I have to say the piano would not of been my first choice, but we had a piano so I gave it a whirl I think that experience, which I feel was not all that successful for me, led me to believe that I am just not musically inclined enough by nature Finding your video lessons has ignited the spark in me to try again So far, I have not purchased a Banjo, but have been watching and listening to your lessons each day just to familiarize myself with techniques and the learning progression you layout It's a start as I feel your style of teaching resonates with me and I feel it "makes sense" to me Anyhow, I've subscribed and really just wanted to throw out a big Thank You to you for producing this content If by chance you see this comment, maybe you could recommend an entry level Banjo to me? I was looking at various cheap Banjo's on Amazon, but my daughter was suggesting to go to a music store to buy a decent beginner Banjo Do you think it matters as a beginner? I am looking to learn What is the best beginner banjo and finger picks to get? Comment from : @jpkelso1980 |
|
I got me a banjo and just kept picking until I could play itbrBecause I’m an idiot I bought Bill Evans bluegrass banjo for dummies and found that idea to be not so stupid 101 lessons from an educated Picker for 20US worked out quite well His beginner tunes are very acceptable musically and there is nothing not covered so you can at least sniff around yourself if he does not elaborate enough Comment from : @Steve-cs8nd |
|
Hey Jim, I think your lesson 1 is the most important one to master Comment from : @stevewilliams7852 |

Hi Jim! My wife called my bluff! I had been commenting for years about how I'd like to learn to play the banjo So, on my birthday she took me to our local music shop and bought me a nice new Oscar Schmidt banjo I'm 72 and have no musical training or knowledge whatsoever I have started with your lesson 1 Starting with a blank slate at playing the Banjo just getting a comfortable playing posture and positioning of arm, hands and fingers is a challenge and took me quit a few sessions to get a comfortable grip on things I can now play the lesson 1 objective but not without looking at my fingers as I play Should I not move on to lesson 2 until I can play lesson 1 without looking at my fingers while playing? Comment from : @charlesmorganti3694 |
