I just bought a banjo and I'm loving this comment section Its so interesting and inspirational to read everyones stories I played violin for about 8 years; I honestly didn't enjoy it much after some time, but it was musical experience I'm grateful for I've picked up a plethora of small instruments through the years like the kalimba, Irish tin whistle, and ukulele I want to commit to something again and reading everyones comments here has reignited that interest!

The tablature being back the front makes little sense to me And if you are looking down at your banjo the fifth string is at the top, not at the bottom I am enjoying your vids thoigh thank you You are gentle and forgiving!

So today i have officially picked my first strings ever Never played guitar or anything other than harmonica wich i kinda suck at but can play some older songs First 10 minuets of playing with your lesson plan and i have nearly mastered the day 1 lesson I commented once before and i do apologize for the lengthy texts here I better stick with 1 or 2 lessons a week That being said i notice my figers kinda laying down on the head little and its more comfortable but is it a bad habbit?

I am nearing 60 years old and like many here, have never played anything with strings Brass while in highschool many, many years ago I have been drawn to the banjo since childhood I watched Flatt and Scruggs on the Beverly Hillbilly show and the dreams took it from there Now I have the time to practice and get more serious The dream is still alive I am on day 10 of this course and will be supporting you through your patreon (You earned it !) Im learning slow as the first 10 days has taken me over a month I am still slow (Not near up to tempo but my play is consistant and clear I wanted to thank you for this series as I am not sure I could have done this any other way Your are talented not only on the Banjo but as a teacher as well Keep up the great work

Hi, I've found it helps a lot to make sure your finger nails on your left hand are trimmed shortbrbrI'm enjoying your lessons! I've had my banjo since the 1950s in Berkeley when I bought a Vega Tubaphone 5-string from Barry Olivier, only $125 including its unusual case I also got Pete Seeger's "How to play the 5-string banjo" and learned his style, and have been playing it that way ever since And now I'm learning how to play it with picks Wonderful It may take me a while since I'm now 91 Cheers!
