I’m not a big Internet user but for what I need for editing video editing and for my T-shirt company would you say that the 215 iMac is a good computer for just basic usage

this is my current imac its awesome replaced a late 2011 imac (also 24") thought that one had a lot more ports and a DVD player the trade offs are ok this is way more sleek and faster for sure

Just bought 215 imac with Intel core i5, 1 terabyte of HD space, and 8 gigs of ram for 120$ bucks Updated the operating software and cleaned up some of the stored files in the library and the machine is magical for the cash

PS A bigger screen and likely thicker for improved airflow Bezel issue aside, you guys raved about 2019 16 inch MBP, and its good but it gets very very hot So, I question the judgement of someone who can overlook such things That said, I love the channel

I wouldn't want to buy the m1 imac because I can't upgrade /remove the hard drive Hard drives are ware items and also if the mlb dies or any of the major components go out i loose my data Were as i could just pull the hard drive and stick in another mac and continue on with the other imac

just got an M3 24 inch iMac after a failed CPU upgrade to my 2020 and I HATE it it doesn't seem to run as smooth as my older 5k iMac, it seems to take longer to process than the older one did in Fusion as well and that 3 inches in screen size is missed badly

To be honest, for me it's quite simple why that newer Imac isn't that popular: it looks cheap It looks like some computer that is made for kids, with all kinds of blocked content and stuff Lol I mean, compare the grey one with the older imac (also grey) It just looks plastic and cheap The older imacs simply look way more premium Even knowing that the edges are nicer on the newer imacs, but that's really the only thing (looks wise) In my opinion, those 'funky' colors are simply a terrible move People want premium devices that also look premium for the extremely-premium prices they pay for it Steve Jobs would've never approved this funky color sh*t

I have a 2019 Core I 5 with a two TB fusion HDD and upgraded the ram to 24 gigs and I also have it in a 27 inch 5K Retina display and honestly every time I look at the M1 or M3, I think people are paying more for less because it comes in pretty colors Seriously, if you make YouTube shorts and videos and utilize the Mac for tasks like Writing and backing up files from your iOS devices, why would I want to give up a 27 inch machine that gives me more options than a new M1 or M3, which limits people instead? The M1 when the video was made, now I'd definitely get the M3 which is on the list for my wife to replace her 2015 27" iMac I upgraded her 2015 with a 1TB SSD and 24GB of RAM, but it's just not getting the job done for her now She is adamant that she doesn't want a laptop She wants the M3 iMac (24GB/1TB) even though the screen is a bit smaller After 56 years of marriage, I'm certainly not going to argue with her about that!

I use an I9 32gb for AI transcription (AIKO) and it sucks By comparison I can do the same AI transcription on my Iphone 12 at least 10 times faster - Now that's a HUGE forward leap, an IPhone beating out a a complete computer

I think the issue is the tiny screen and the candy coated looking Just based on the design they really not aimed any serious user, they look like toys and they kept the size what usually picked for not tech savvy kids first computer Also everything soldered no update or swp repair for a broken memory module or drive so its not future proof even a little (I have a 2007 working imac, still in use This thing I would be glad if still running after 3 or 4 years) Its more like a tablet with a stand solderd to its back

I certainly would go for the M1 as well since I do not have the no-how or even the desire to rebuild one And I may well get a refurbished one too, but when I do get one, it will be from Apple of course I did buy my 2020 MacBook Air from Amazon and did very well, but it was new With a good screen, you really don't notice the size of the screen at all I go from the 133" screen to a 16" screen all the time and I don't notice the change With the 24" iMac, I will probably notice the size but that will come in time Apple products are quite good no matter when you decide to buy them And they are always available for you

I will continue to snap up intel macs for the mean time while Apple kind of sorts themselves out Apple Silicon is great, sure, but I am a linux user on just about every machine I own I have been grabbing cheap apple laptops and decommissioned desktops for the purpose of using Linux on them and it's been great I have two Apple Silicon Laptops, the M1 and M2 base models, and I got an M1 Mini for the MIssus to play World of Warcraft on I maintain that the M2 is underwhelming and the lack of functional linux for Apple Silicon points me back to Intel based Macs I suppose it's all about use case The "Supe'd up Intel iMac" would be wicked if you could do something about the GPU There's still some gamer in me, so having a capable GPU is a want, but not absolute need I guess, if you've built up a streaming rig with a strong GPU I digress

I own a 27" 2017 Retina iMac that I bought refurbished (with pci nvme SSD, and upgraded ram to 40 gig (for $35)) and will never buy another Apple product as they continue the drive towards planned obsolescence If the guys at over Core legacy patcher can give older macs a new lease on life (running Sonoma on mine right now), so could Apple, since owners of older Apple don't need support from Apple anyway Instead, Apple does all they can to prevent older imacs from running newer operating systems
