I've been a runner for many decades and I never picked up on listening to anything when I ran outside I just run and listen to what's in my head When I do run inside on the treadmill I do listen to something or watch something Thank you for your podcast

@danielleite4465
Impossible, the music that is played in the gym that I work out is horrible
Comment from : @danielleite4465

@ryanskinner8789
So don't work out daily, don't cold plunge too much or you will build up a tolerance or lose the benefits or good vibes? I can't not work out, I need it, its my therapy! Trying to limit the cold plunge to 4 days a week, but I want it everyday for how it makes me feel!!

Great information, thanks!brWas wondering what role caffeine may have in dopamine regulation? I often have a cup of coffee with me throughout the daybr- Bryan

You need to find balance in life Here are some things that helped me completely turn around my life:br1 I created a routine that includes daily goal setting and mindfulnessbr2 I read all books on mindBloomery, it's the kind of knowledge that stays with you foreverbr3 I started using assertiveness techniques from "Power of assertiveness: Unlock your potential" to help me focus on the most important things in my lifebrbrIt's incredible how much this helped me to stop procrastinating When your mind is in the right place, you can achieve almost anything

@Parablepatch
Dr huberman can you explain how you manage content creation and use of phone
Comment from : @Parablepatch

@Krzy-hoo
Your phone can make normal activities less enjoyable over time because it gives you too many bursts of pleasure chemicals (dopamine) all at once It's like eating dessert with every meal - eventually, regular food stops tasting good The solution? Try doing some activities without your phone This helps your brain reset and lets you enjoy simple things again Sometimes having less makes you happier in the long run
Comment from : @Krzy-hoo

@Krzy-hoo
"Dr Huberman explains how smartphones and digital technology can affect our brain's dopamine system and motivation Here are the main points:brbr1 Dopamine peaks and baselines are crucial for well-being, but constant high dopamine stimulation leads to decreased baseline levels and reduced motivationbrbr2 The key issue with smartphones is "layering" multiple dopamine-releasing activities (texting, social media, music, etc) while doing other tasks, which can lead to:br - Increased rates of depressionbr - Decreased motivationbr - Reduced enjoyment of previously pleasurable activitiesbrbr3 Huberman shares a personal example about working out:br - He noticed that bringing his phone to workouts (combining exercise, music, podcasts, and texting) eventually made exercise less enjoyablebr - He solved this by removing his phone from workouts entirelybr - This helped him regain enjoyment in exercisebrbr4 The solution he proposes is "intermittent release of dopamine":br - Don't expect or chase high levels of dopamine every timebr - Vary the intensity and frequency of pleasurable activitiesbr - Sometimes engage in activities with fewer dopamine-triggering elementsbr - Use random reinforcement schedules (similar to how casinos operate)brbr5 He emphasizes that the issue isn't that people "can't be alone" with their thoughts, but rather that constant digital stimulation has altered our baseline dopamine levels and ability to enjoy simple activitiesbrbrThe key takeaway is to be mindful of combining too many sources of dopamine stimulation and to intentionally vary the intensity of pleasurable experiences to maintain healthy baseline motivation levels"
Comment from : @Krzy-hoo

@Admir5595
Ironic that I’m watching this on a phone
Comment from : @Admir5595

@akalui007
what about not engaging with caffeine before a workout? is that worthwhile or is that simply counter productive?
Comment from : @akalui007

@AlethicAvenger
the video's claims about dopamine and its relationship to technology use, motivation, and pleasure are oversimplified and not well-supported by scientific evidence its reliance on anecdotal evidence and misapplication of scientific concepts weakens its argument while the video raises some valid points about the potential downsides of excessive technology use, it does so in a way that is misleading and lacks nuance a "tenured professor of neurobiology and ophthalmology" should know better
Comment from : @AlethicAvenger

@abinezeramdeberhan274

@josephinewliu
5:40 advice from andrew: removing multiple sources of dopamine release, from activities that you want to continue to enjoy or enjoy more
Comment from : @josephinewliu

@Spydeberg7876
I struggle with deep crashes of (probably) dopamine after running, the day after I feel an intense high the same day but the day after I feel awful, like my brain is dead I’m prone to overuse my phone and get cheap dopamine, and that’s all I can do the next day Even though I try to be aware and schedule in hobbies and Netflix just to get something “done” and also get dopamine, but in other forms and I also want to see shows and knit, I just lose track of time and the phone ends up in my hands again So my runs have to be scheduled in for times when I just can’t have anything to do the next daybrI drink enough and also started taking electrolytes the same day, but no result
Comment from : @Spydeberg7876

@dn-rg3zo
I talk to my middle school class about learning, dopamine and smartphone It already is a gamechanger that they know about what‘s going on in their brain They now make an experiment: not using the phone during the breaks I never heard so much laughing!
Comment from : @dn-rg3zo

@magdalenamarz3760
Spot on br(enjoying the long talks too, in another way, but this one gives proof to the clips-format)brCherry on top: the irony of watching this video which is latest on an already impossibly long watch-later-playlist

@eto38581
Julien Blanc used to say "Be Controlled" one of his 4 principles Being controlled maens, not reacting to external stimulation Reacting could be being overly excited, rushing, feeling too good or too bad You basicly want to be blasé, controlled, grounded Think of a boss (grounded) versus employee (reactive), a father (grounded) vs daughter (reactive), or the buyer (grounded) vs salesman (reactive) In practise, this involves slowing down and moving in a controlled way instead of rushing, noticing the external stimulation hitting you and not reacting to it (staying controlled) and understanding slow is faster When you are rushed and in reaction to external stimulus, you will resonate with hard solutions, self-sabotage yourself and end up spinning your wheels Reactiveness comes along with perfectionism, burn out and procrastination
Comment from : @eto38581

@Mario6d6172
The phone and apps was designed to be that way There was a lot of fMRI, EEGs and bloodwork done to make them as addictive as possible Right now this matter needs a senate and following class action lawsuits and release of all gray research on this matter since this looks like a cyber-drug to me

@ARsuffix
I very much appriciate Andrew Hubermen's sound and scientifically informed advice The sad (funny) irony it is that I'm watching this on YouTube -- by far the most addictive website for me
Comment from : @ARsuffix

@PixelBlazer_7
I kinda understand the main point but for example if I want to study (something boring) should I not play music alongside it? Or are we talking about things that are already fun and no need to add another source of dopamine layered with it? Idk man someone help me here 😂
Comment from : @PixelBlazer_7

@jamesn7156
I’ve considered getting a cellular smart watch and leaving the phone at home, just to keep emergency communication like a dumb phone That’s more money though and I just haven’t justified it yet
Comment from : @jamesn7156

@Manchainsaw
Ur the expert but is not the baseline, right? (Several times it's mentioned "watch the baseline") The talk is about controlling the peak line, when you stop feeling the joy of the substance if you will, it's the peak line that's getting higher cuz the brain is creating resistance, the problem with the baseline it's the unwanted crash but "resistance" to the high, it's another thing right?
Comment from : @Manchainsaw

@stevenjezyk9435
I avoid any music 22 hours a day, so ACDC 🎸 during my training still motivates the hell out of me 🙌

@nicwalshy
There was 0 scientific evidence supplied here for "how your phone affects the brain" and just a personal anecdote

Watching this on my phone lol Not good
Comment from : @chefi5357

@ivantranky
I don't completely agree, in my experience there are activities that never bore me, like having fun with friends, maybe outdoors and doing sports/activities with them Instead, evoking my dopamine through any internet activity or video games is like unnaturally consuming my dopamine, preventing me from having it available for "natural" activities hat would never bore me
