Does this run the risk of turning us into workaholics Eschewing the safety, comfort and pleasure of something because it's not demanding enough, we're not struggling eg will we distance ourselves from loving relationships because we're not getting the dopamine hit form the challenge?
Comment from : @microk7648

@farmerjoebrown2189
This is very true! As a kid I wanted to become special forces I began telling myself that pain felt good and blocking it out Now when I get hurt…if its really bad I laugh uncontrollably and rarely feel much pain Weird but true

@millerag75
That’s actually great advice I never thought about it in that way and I think I’ve been really limiting what I’m capable of by not realizing this

@RicardoTrevinoLohman
Thats a good message but flawed experiment, whas there a control group of children who did the same with no reward? maybe this kids just got bored of drawing as most of us do and we are drawing conclusions Stoll agree with the message for sure though

@HUS_STAR
My dopamine was a slot machine 🎰, but I had to get rid of that negative dopamine addiction, which is still really difficult to this day, I find my mind wondering in that direction when I'm not doing anything, but in order to fulfil that VOİD, I had to fill my mind up with a goal, and routinely train it to work towards attaining it, so in other words trying to change a bad habit into another positive habit with repetition

The story about the research on the kids makes me really sad And angry, as the researches probably had a theory that they were very likely going to take away these kids’ joy in drawing Drawing was the only thing that used to give me joy when I was young Anhedonia took it away from me, leaving a palpable emptiness inside me ever afterbrAs for the rest of the story: my brain will just laugh at me and say ‘no’

@ShyamkrishnanNair
Exactly! Embracing the effort itself as the reward can be a game-changer I’ve noticed when I’m focused on the end result, the process feels more like a chore, but when I shift my mindset and enjoy the challenge, the effort becomes rewarding in itself The idea of accessing dopamine from the effort, not just the reward, really clicked for me when I started to push through tough tasks without focusing on the outcome It’s like building muscle—mental and physical! brbrPlus, a bit of humor along the way can ease the tension—something I’ve been working on through the Sense of Humor Improvement Program by Habit10x Keep at it, and soon the hard work will feel more natural!

I just let all the compounding to the work for mebrbrbrbrbrThe goal is not to shoot the ball but to play basket ballbrThe goal isn't to become fit, it is to exercise for funbrThe goal isn't to play video games, it is to have funbrbrDon't to things for the reward, but rather do things you wanna do and the reward will just be a bonus

@Mackcolak-xf5bk
Here are the key takeaways from the video:brbr1 Focusing solely on end goals or rewards can undermine motivation and make hard work more challengingbrbr2 An experiment showed that rewarding children for an activity they already enjoyed (drawing) decreased their intrinsic motivation to do it later without rewardsbrbr3 Growth mindset, developed by Carol Dweck, emphasizes the importance of focusing on effort and improvement rather than just outcomesbrbr4 The neural mechanism of growth mindset involves learning to access rewards from the effort itself, not just the end resultbrbr5 Dopamine release during effort can increase energy, focus, and efficiency, making it easier to engage in challenging tasksbrbr6 To cultivate this mindset:br - Tell yourself that the effort is the good part, even when it's painfulbr - Focus on the process rather than just the end goalbr - Remind yourself that you're choosing to do the difficult task because you want to improvebrbr7 Consistently practicing this approach can make it reflexive for all types of effortbrbr8 Avoid spiking dopamine before or after the effort; instead, learn to get dopamine release from the effort itselfbrbr9 This approach is considered one of the most powerful aspects of dopamine in human biology and is accessible to everyonebrbr10 The speaker uses David Goggins, a former Navy SEAL, as an example of someone who has mastered turning effort into its own reward

Your subject is very informative I had always worked under the external reward system and I attest to the fact that I went to the process not enjoying it There was stress and struggle on my way to the reward that after getting the reward, i did not have the least motivation to go through it again After watching your lecture, I'll try to find dopamine in hurdling the challenges of what I'm doing
