Yes OR One day an elder told them which way North, South, East, West was No one questioned it and that's the rule they followed It might not be accurate to a compass But it's accurate to them They know their version of E,S,W,N and they follow those points All from someone who could have been wrong Comment from : @dylanmoore1900 |

As per Indian wisdom of “Panini”, ( grammarian of ancient India), there are three parts of speech - Primary ( first person ) ,Secondary ( second person) , Tertiary ( third person ) The primary is known as wisdom mode ; secondary is known as interview mode ; and tertiary is known as gossip mode This indicates the primary is intended for public speech ; secondary is for one - to - one speech and tertiary is for group speech Having said so , I will add that first person is positive in Indian languages , meanwhile negative in European languages and hence forth Comment from : @jaijithb7764 |

i think language is the result of a broader life experiences or needs of a certain community and through this language medium, these experiences and needs are inheritedbrso instead of saying language crafts our way of thinking, it's more proper to say, language is such a gifted tool to us, it can also convey ancient experiences and needs beyond its description usage or rather it's a museum itself, displaying a revolution path of a community Comment from : @radiosparrow851 |

There are so many videos about how language is supposed to shape thought, always with the same kind of examplesbrIn all these studies, the problem is that instead of observing how language actually works, the researchers design experiments or imagine situations to validate the initial hypothesis, namely that language influences thought, with the examples or scenarios obviously chosen with this objective in mind Under no circumstances do they seek alternative explanations Yet it is clear that in all the cases mentioned, it is not language that influences people, but their learning, culture, environment and a host of other factors that language simply reflects, and not the other way roundbrAt one point she says: ‘your language and your culture’, but in fact it is only learning that plays a real role, as language merely expresses acquired experience The aboriginal community she is talking about does not use geospatial orientation markers very often, only when it is necessary to warn of danger or an unusual situation; moreover, it is the result of living in a geographical location formed of plains opening onto nature, and has nothing to do with language itselfbrThe same goes for the example of learning to count: it is not a linguistic trick, but a cognitive learning process in which language plays a mnemonic rolebrThe thesis of linguistic determinism or relativism is only attractive because it surprises people when it is presented in this biased waybrI recommend reading John McWhorter's book, "The Language Hoax", or watching the video under this heading, which debunks the thesis of linguistic relativism, whether it is about colours, gender, spatial and temporal markers, or any nominal class There is, of course, an undeniable link between perception or thought and language, but the thesis itself is false and leads to dubious conclusions that devalue or overvalue cultures Comment from : @pasquierlambert3690 |

Interesting and amusing But imho there is no whatever cognitive coupling when it comes to grammatical gender The only association of grammatical gender is that of mnemonic automatism Those about beauty vs solidity of a bridge were misleading attributions Paraphrasing Shakespeare's we can say that "what's in a gender? Whatever the gender of the bridge, Germans would make & see it more solid, while Spaniards would make & see it more beautiful" Another one: "All the world's a cage and we are merely parrots" (that applaud whatever just because they identify with what they could be - and that's an easy game of fooling) brConsider this example: sparare con un canone (Italian)br"L'ha ucciso una mitragliatrice (feminine)" ("killed by a machine gun")br"L'ha ucciso un cannone (masculine)" ("killed by a cannon")brThere's no whatever gender-based cognitive association Comment from : @voltydequa845 |

languages spoken around the world -- and they all have different sounds, vocabularies and structures But do they shape the way we think? Cognitive scientist Lera Boroditsky shares examples of language -- from an Aboriginal community in Australia that uses cardinal directions instead of left and right to the multiple words for blue in Russian -- that suggest the answer is a resounding yes "The beauty of linguistic diversity is that it reveals to us just how ingenious and how flexible the human mind is," Boroditsky says "Human minds have invented not one cognitive universe Comment from : @SabinaDahal-k9z |

Name : Atha Syakira QalwabrNPM : 24033010100brbrBoroditsky explains that as languages differ in structure, they shape the way speakers understand concepts like time, space, and even color She also discusses the problem of losing languages and their associated cognitive diversity, which can lead to the loss of unique worldviews Her proposed solution is to preserve linguistic diversity by promoting multilingualism and understanding how language influences thought She advocates for more research into these differences and integrating language learning into educational systems Boroditsky's delivery is clear, engaging, and uses vivid examples that help audiences understand the deep connection between language and cognition Comment from : @gelatoosz |

I have listened to many professors from top universities like UC Berkeley and Oxford University discuss the connection between language and thought, but I’ve never fully grasped the way they explained certain topics However, Lera’s discussion about how language shapes the way we think, combined with her strong yet pleasant communication style, makes her explanations far more understandable and relatable for both online and in-person audiences Comment from : @Ayatal-Kursi |

I am Brazilian so portuguese is my mother tonguebr English is my second language and spanish would be the third, and it's not that I became a genius after learning other languages, but it's clear the difference when you're switching languages to try and solve a problem or just having a thought about something your mindbrbrFor me : English is colder and more objective, less descriptive but more accurate when it comes to problem solving It's the language my brain would use to be faster and use less energy, and that's probably why we kinda get addicted to itbrbrPortuguese and spanish are more beautiful, descriptive and warm Easier to connected with people and amazing for complex ideasbrMaybe because of it's romantic foundation, is the language I'd use to apologize, create elaborared excuses, help someone who's grieving or give support to others in a general waybrThe language I'd use to dreambrbrI'm learning italian now, let's see what I'll have to talk about it Comment from : @GrindWithMike |

🌟 Language shapes how we think! 🌟br🌍 7,000 languages, 7,000 cognitive universes 🌍br🧭 Aboriginal Australians use cardinal directions, not left/right 🧭br⏱️ Time perception varies - landscape-based, not body-based ⏱️br🔢 Some languages lack exact number words, affecting quantity understanding 🔢br🎨 Color boundaries differ, affecting perceptual awareness 🎨br👔 Grammatical gender affects how objects are perceived 👔br🔍 Language guides attention and memory of events 🔍br💭 Your language shapes your thoughts - explore new ways of thinking! 💭 Comment from : @user-yj4hk4oq9m |
