Just got a new job and it’s my first job I’m 21 and I’m moving to another country, it’s a well paying job and I can finally be independent and save up and be stable Growing up in never had a lot, we were low income single parent family now my mom says get out of my house but still send me money as if she is entitled to it She is not my debt to pay off She built up all these loans she can’t pay off She doesn’t care about my well being- it’s always yes just send me money ok

My parents do this ALL the time Every week they always ask me how much I have and if I tell them they are always like “ oh can I borrow ?” And take weeks to months to pay it back when they tell me they will in a week and if I say no they try to guilt trip mebrbrIt’s hard for me because I’m in school and only have a part time jobs so I don’t make a lot

my brother and i had to buy out part of the family farm so my parents could escape bankruptcy!i used my land to build our house on but this to me is real world America!im floored when i hear my peers or people i know who get inheritances or just money/real estate given to them!i put 30 years into that farm and got nothing in return!land should have been given to us but instead we had to buy it!we are a loving family and didnt break us apart but between us to brothers it isnt looked at as a blessing

I'd never dream of asking my kids for money - it's on me to keep the hierarchy in place, just because they're adults I should be the one helping them, not the other way around Besides, if he gives $10k how does that change their situation? They still owe 10k, only now it won't go to collections because they know their son won't chew them out The only winners here are the parents so I say to the son "don't do it, you'll never get your money back" Chances are they'd just blow it anyway instead of paying the debt off, leaving them now owing $20k

Family tend to take advantage of you and 8 out of 10 times they WILL NOT PAY YOU BACK Why? Bc they don't feel like they have toand the longer you let it go without asking the money back to more and more they see it as a "gift" I gave my dad $1,200 with the intent of getting it back (he's a doctor) and after 2 years of not saying anything I finally started asking for it back brbrIt took another year of finally asking for it back and finally 3 solid months of aggressive asking to FINALLY have him start paying some of it back I got the last of it back after another round of yelling Needless to say I will not be loaning him any money ever again

Although I agree with MrRamsey on the best thing to do with that amount of money is to invest in thyself, it wouldn't hurt to give back to the ones who have allowed you to be in the position you are in now Even though the guy is not in the best situation as of now, you have had a place to live all your life as well as something to eat probably everyday
