Chuck, All good points As a Distance Learning Graduate at Carlisle, I would heartily endorse anyone to accept the challenge! It is more than just the credentials you earn by graduating, it is the ability to think and plan at a strategic level in your current and future jobs If you have the chance to visit Carlisle, just walk around and look at the names on the wall of previous graduates This will put it all into perspective as you will become a member of an elite group of people with this experience and education Comment from : @Kitzhaber |

One perspective on the distance learning option, is that it is by far the tougher War College option since it becomes a secondary/tertiary (but all-consuming) effort to your day job and your family I was a 2005 distance learning graduate I would describe the experience as "brutal" but getting MEL-1 credit AND a Master's Degree is a value-added gain for the pain You and your family will pay the price in diminished time and attention available for family life but that is already an inherent aspect of military service By this point in your career, your service has [or should have] already become a "team effort" in concert with spouse and children and this becomes just "the next thing" That team cohesion is, and will remain, a critical element in your ability to continue serving in ever more demanding assignments Resident students have no other life committments beyond the curriculum and there is a prevalent opinion that the Resident course is designed and intended to serve as somewhat of a "sabbatical" for senior officers to rest, reset, and reconnect with family before the next few years of hard work and senior service I certainly do NOT condemn or disparage resident graduates (although perhaps I envy them) The pain IS worth the gain but accept the challenge/opportunity/burden with your eyes wide open Comment from : @ThomasBombadil-r2j |
