 An interesting - and very dated - anecdote concerning resident vs DDE According to faculty member COL(ret) Brian D Moore (deceased many years ago) when the Master of Strategic Studies was introduced and approved the USAWC ran into a problem with the accrediting agency for the degree Initially approaching DDE with skepticism the college was prepared and convinced the accrediting agency to accept the DDE program for an accredited degree However, the agency refused to accredit the resident program until the POI had been re-written The objection, according to Moore, was the resident program was so seminar driven mastery of the individual student was not measured This was in the early 2000s He was speaking in 2001 or 2002 and was speaking to a DDE seminar And, this anecdote has nothing to do with the point the Bureaucrat is making - career impact But, it is interesting to note how the academics viewed the two programs at accreditation time Moore referred to this information as "the dirty little secret no one talks about"

 So if you have aspirations of O6 CSL command, but get "box of books", would you recommend declining since it seems like a lot of work for what might be no payoff?
