Interesting I do appreciate the sovereigns, but compared to a Britannia they do look incredibly easy to forge Will leave the antique coins to those with the time and tech to buy with confidence

OK, so what do I do if I get a fake gold sovereign? I bought a 9ct gold chain with a glass locket good pric for the chain and what I am sure is a counterfeit 1915 gold sovereign To my eye it's off not so much George and the Dragon, but George 5th is very amateurish Do I turn it in? Keep t as a souvenir?

Thank you, Christopher! However, buying an ancient sovereign scale may not be an accurate tool after decades of wear and tear I have bought something called a Fisch guage which determines a genuine coin on the very same principles: weight, diameter, thickness 🙂

I have a 1908-M that looks to be the right size and weight, but it has the alignment problem you described at about 8:41 When the reverse is correct, the obverse is rotated about 10 degrees I don't have access to something like a Sigma verifier to check otherwise, and the dealer was reputable I assume they check, but who really knows? It also passes the magnet test Is alignment always spot on? The others I have are

Only a fool buys coins on eBay I learned this the hard way I just got screwed by a seller, portcityartifacts My fault This seller had less than 50 feedbacks and one was negative I have a decades long spotless record as a buyer Portcityartifacts sent me a coin I didn’t order and when I demanded he make it right, Portcityartifacts convinced eBay I was trying to steal the coin and eBay removed my negative feedback I learned my lesson eBay sides with sellers and will remove negative feedback So you can never be sure when dealing with a seller what their real feedback rating is
