At my go-to bullion site here in the US, the percent above spot (POS) that the half sovereigns go for is only slightly higher than the POS that generic silver rounds go for and is actually far less than the POS of our pre-1965 silver dimes go for, which are thought of as a great low-premium investment brbrThe only better gold bullion investment I know of in terms of POS is the full sovereign, unless you've got the money to spend on kilo bars and stuff like that

I was buying half sovereigns at £180 a couple of years ago thinking I was paying way too much The feeling never changes buying them now but I just try and keep in mind that GBP is devaluing

In 1978 I can remember half sovereign was around 50 pounds about 40 pounds secondhand in pawn shops

I found a 2003 gold Proof Half-Sovereign at my LCS here in the US, it had sat on the shelf for quite a while, for $272 US It came with velvet box and all the papers Probably would be worth more on your side of the pond

That’s not a bad price I always buy full sovereigns from Tavex They are currently £512 I’ve been buying one a month and putting them away for years now Always best to buy sovereigns and not bars as an investment because the coins are Capital Gains Tax exempt If you do invest long term and build up a stock of gold the last thing you want to do is pay a large lump of tax for selling your investment especially as the current government has just halved the annual non payable threshold to only £3k!
