Idk if Dr Krashen will ever see this but I stumbled upon this lecture in December 2020, used this idea to learn French I didn’t really believe him at first, but I tried it out 1 month at a time, always seeing progress so I would continue it Sort a monthly contract renewal 4 years later I’m living in Paris and have worked completely in French for 1 year Dude has got a point…

Hes missing out on the visual culture of today and the opportunities for knowledge that lies there Language is a great resource, but it is only a part of human experience Some people get lost in language concepts that are simply a concocted idea by an armchair theoretician which has no correlates to the real world, thrown into the discourse as a nonchalant happenstance, never to be erased therefrom Most of this language elitism is conservatism in disguise

Books are mostly no longer necessary to learn a language All my nieces in the Philippines have taught themselves to understand and speak English using YouTube, even when their parent hardly spoke a word of English

This is definitely true, I was barely able to read growing up due to undiagnosed learning issues and an inability to get my eyes to focus on the same place on the page I'd look down a the page and there was no guarantee that what I'd be reading would be literally on the page Frequently, it would be a random assortment of the words that were there So, I wouldn't qualify as completely illiterate, I could still read, I just couldn't count on anything that I wrote or read being an accurate reflection of what was on the paperbrbrI did eventually manage to get over that with a lot of time and patience, but it wasn't until I was in my 30s that I could really read the range of topics that a college educated individual should
