I am almost 40 and I’ve been in construction my whole life, I love Dave Ramsey, but can tell he hasn’t worked Construction, you don’t need to drive a new truck, but please don’t drive a piece of junk, very unprofessional, anybody who takes pride in their construction business will at least drive midgrade decent trucks

My 2010 Toyota Tacoma regular cab truck has power nothing I bought it in 2012 with under 7k miles for $17k Still have it at 142k and going for at least 100k more

Entire situation is failed you don't supply a work truck and take responsibility for that depreciation/maintenance/repair unless you're an actual contractor making actual contractor money It doesn't sound like this child has an actual trade but he'd better learn to make profit off construction or get the hell out of it because he's totally being used supplying a vehicle without full compensation which is what lowlife contractors ALWAYS try to sucker people intobrbrIf you're paid hourly show up in a $2k honda civic which doesn't move an inch until you clock out or they agree to give you $55 a mile on top of wages A lot of bottom feeders won't want to hear that which isnan excellent way to avoid working for a bottom feeder

"they lose 60 to 70 of their value in the first 4 years that you own them", sadly for used car shoppers that hasn't been true for some years now For the brands and models that people want, the ones on a wait list, 3–4-year-old cars often go for 70-90 of new value Some model units can be sold for a profit after 3 years The new car shortage of pandemic years are better now, but the shortage still exists And since so few new cars were shipped in 2022, in 2026 there will be a shortage of 4-year-old used cars, keeping those used prices high

I still don't get Dave's rationale How exactly does a vehicle's depreciation affect ones income or expenses? I don't see that it does If my paid-for car goes from $60K to $20K how exactly does that move the needle negatively when my income/expenses are exactly the same?

Yes, my grandfather grew up in the depression and saved everything I can't tell you how many times he'd reuse aluminum foil for warming up his dinner rolls He'd fold it up after every use and put it in the drawer I'm sure he basically would reuse it until it fell apart
