I have one of those little inexpensive Martins Great campfire guitar Comment from : @decadentdevil |
What do you think of the Martin 000-16 street master ? Comment from : @hobodogjohnson9075 |
I have a 000-1, and it is great Comment from : @bradmossman7201 |
My brother used to set his guitar in front of his stereo speakers Thought it would help season it 😊 Comment from : @rocks4brains |
Both great for their price and construction / materials However the 42 has superior tones and tonal range and much better presence and projection The X1 has a thin and dull sound compared to the 42 I would not buy the X1 I would not buy the 42 because my level of playing doesn't justify the price, but the 42 is sweet sounding guitar Thanks for a fair and honest review and well done video Comment from : @roberttosa2560 |
Really enjoyed this comparison I have a 1991 Martin J40, which I purchased about 10 years ago, pre-owned and about 2 years ago I got a pre-owned Martin 000-X1 This latter guitar is an early model (Serial No: 1110655) made in the Nazereth, PA factory I love them both, but tend to play the 000-X1 if I'm busking in the mean streets of Buckfastleigh UK, as it's a tough little guitar, and can cope with the odd bumps & scrapes! Comment from : @keithclements3038 |
Lucky me I love the cheap one! Comment from : @lucianholbrook3966 |
I love my x1 Sounds beautiful Got it new for £500 I also got an American made d28 for £1500 around the same time 3x the price is totally different from 10x the price We are so intent to praise these guitar manufacturers we forget they are just companies like all other companies And profit is their only interest They only make cheaper guitars to scoop up that market too Comment from : @MartynAddison-us3xp |
The difference is significant Comment from : @GaiusAsiniusPollio1 |
Expensive Martin's notes are much better defined The articulation is wonderful But the cheap Martin sounds really good for its price, just not as precise in its articulation Comment from : @paulhedeen7659 |
This comparison is kinda meh because it doesn't go far enoughbrbrYou should take a LEGENDARY high-end guitar like a Martin D-28 and compare it to a LEGENDARY mid-range guitar like a Seagull S6 OriginalbrbrTHAT would be an interesting comparison because the Martin costs more than 4x the price of the Seagull but I'd be willing to bet that for most people, the Seagull would be the winner The warmer sound that comes from its solid cedar top has proven to be warmer and more soulful than spruce, something that most people seem to prefer in blind tests Comment from : @AvroBellow |
Not even a close comparison $600 Martin isn’t even in the same universe as the $6k Comment from : @hochunk4609 |
$600 gets you 90 of the way to $6000, so its a no brainer to me I would get the cheaper one to play and hopefully my hands could make up the other 10 Comment from : @livearm |
I really want a Martin guitar😮 Comment from : @ulissesdasilva9737 |
"creams and lotions" LOL Comment from : @marcogrady107 |
the 000-42 is more sparkling like stars from heaven but I agree that the 000 1x is a very good guitar!! A good player can make the best sound of every guitar and your good!! Comment from : @marie-josehoppenbrouwers6300 |
The D42 is much brighter My wallet prefers the 000x1 Comment from : @WilsonDiaz-n6w |
There is no contest the 42 is the better of the two Having said that you didn’t say when they were made I assume they were made around the same time give or take a couple years brbrWhat it comes down to is the fingers holding the pick and the 4 on the fretboard Comment from : @austenrobinson2747 |
Yeah I can hear the difference my Yamaha sounds better Comment from : @TonyrogerWilliams-tq8yn |
There are no "cheap" Martins, spanky Comment from : @FirstLast-cd6vv |
Big difference The cheaper one in tinny, the more expensive is rich and warm Comment from : @markdavis3814 |
Long story short - Yes there is a difference - the expensive one sounds way better More resonant, brighter, warmer low end with more clarity, and greater clarity across all the strings in general when playing chords It even sounds more touch sensitive and responsive when finger picking Unlike electric guitars, your investment goes way further with acoustic guitars As the presenter said, when you start using actual solid woods instead of laminate, it's a different world Comment from : @kyleroberts7438 |
No one but Martin can really give you full upgrade in quality- feel, setup, and insane materials And if third world builders can do the job, so be it If you like minimal requirements- go for the Mexican made, bolted neck w fake wood cover over the neck to block joint- Godspeedenjoy Comment from : @robertmcmahon1807 |
I have a 50 year old martin six string all birch guitar in mint condition what would this one be worth i payed anout 900 candian formit about 45 to 50 years ago thanks Comment from : @donaldotsig6818 |
Obviously the 6k model sounds better but I’ll gladly take that X series too Both beautiful instruments Comment from : @C0H87 |
I closed my eyes during playing so didn't see which he was playing, and maybe this shows my limitation but I thought the 'cheap' was the expensive Sounded much more together Guess I shouldn't fork out 6 grand for a guitar Comment from : @fuzzySounds |
The cheap one sounds better Comment from : @kurtislow6025 |
shocker the more expensive sounds way better Comment from : @BJJandBS |
I cant tell the difference Comment from : @garrenluce1984 |

I have a HD-28 that I bought in Bath England, in 1980 for very liitle money, as the shop had no idea what it had It's a' '77, IRW and Spruce, and our esteemed Canadian luthier, Eiichi Ishikawa has worked on it and told me that, if I ever want to sell it, it's the best HD-28 he's ever heard As he'd heard all the BRW models, I took that as a huge endorsement I will never sell this guitar Comment from : @richardfenner6096 |
10x is NOT a bit much it is a pure joke the normal person cannot tell the difference in sound thanks for revealing the "truth" Comment from : @michaelcarman-yv9tm |
The fancy Martin is for someone that likes expensive creams and lotions? 😅 brI laughed out loud at that Comment from : @Anthony-ll4nh |
There's definitely a difference, but they both sound good Comment from : @alecgazaway973 |
Comparison and review aside, you are a phenomenal player 👏 Comment from : @pete6120 |
Yes there is a difference in sound;)> Comment from : @kibbsnowden6893 |
The 5 thousand guitar has a brighter and more open tone, than the 5 hundred, but the cheaper one sounds very descent, too! I wouldn't call it awful in no way Comment from : @ДмитроБарабаш-в2д |
The cheaper sounded better More oomph More presence Comment from : @paulmyers7627 |
I have the 000-42 Modern deluxe It is unbelievable Comment from : @scottmorris7546 |
Of course the 000-42 sounds better But 10x better? I think not For the difference in price, I cannot believe how well the x series sounds Comment from : @jackbobo4247 |
I'm kinda jealous of people who can play a guitar for years and keep it pristine!😢 The more careful that I try to be, the more of a chance that I'm getting a ding in my guitar! 😡 Comment from : @cchavez248 |
it sounds like the more expensive guitar is ready to recordbrthe cheaper one needs a setup Comment from : @michaelsotomayor5001 |
Liked the sound of the 00042 Comment from : @EloyFelan |
Hey, 2024 here, I bought a Recording King RO standard, got it set up professionally, and it is a killer, a Martin Killer Comment from : @kieranmahony5919 |
I think the neck joint abalone is a little too much other than that the 42 is one of ny favorites!🎸🤯🔫 Comment from : @KaneGregory |
Do you have Fancy creams and lotions sometimes Comment from : @MPNNag |
The expensive one sounds like an old person burping Comment from : @orquito7710 |
I minimized my screen and only listened and could not tell the difference Comment from : @Nazman06 |
Someone who buys creams and lotions… 😂😂😂😂 you are my new hero!!! Comment from : @Turbomaranzaable |

Is bet it's no more than 3 times better Comment from : @lukemarcello1229 |
Cheaper one sounds better in this video Maybe live, expensive one will sounds better but 10x difference in price is not worth it Comment from : @misonova069 |
The cheaper of the 2 sounds phenomenal Comment from : @sadpatriot5199 |
What is your opinion of Alvarez guitars? Comment from : @toddcagle4245 |
I am not sure the 42 sounds better much less 10 times better Very interesting Comment from : @seanfried5583 |
Every guitar is worth exactly what you would pay for it Been playing 50 years I have old Martins, old Stellas, old Nationals, and a few cheap newer models Pricier guitars will sound better for many reasons, but, sometimes, a cheap guitar can be very surprising In the end, it is simply what one prefers Comment from : @dougmackenzie5976 |
If you are 50 and play rhythm guitar in a cover band, just get a fender You can’t buy skill or talent So many bad players own a Martian The same guys own Harleys and don’t pass bikers gangs Comment from : @Bryman5000 |
The cheapy sounds cheap It has flavors of cheapnessnot good overtones either No fullness The 000-42 is full even with it's treble Comment from : @cugir321 |
000-X1 sounds really nice Comment from : @NekaneetaItziar |
Great playing and good choice of mic and room etc because this is much better sounding than a lot of YouTube videos Comment from : @csilt |
I have owned both a 000 - X1 and the 000-28 They are both worth the money But the 000-28 is amazing while the x-1 is just ok Comment from : @turbodownwarddog |
Very fair comparison Thanks for including a full description of the builds for each guitar One thing you didn’t mention is cost of ownership I just bought a 2019 Martin D-18 used for about $2500 I will enjoy it for years and when I—or my family—sell it 10 or 15 years from now I could probably get all of my money back (I admit, in inflated dollars) But I would have enjoyed a very fine guitar for 10 years So if I can readily pay $2500 I should enjoy the higher priced guitar It’s just a better way to enjoy life and play an upscale instrument It’s a personal choice My cost of ownership is very small brbrI should mention I am almost 72 yrs old I won’t be owning my Martin guitar for 55 yrs, as I have owned my 1969 Mosrite combo electric I am the first and only owner, and the Mosrite is worth about $3k to $4k today I paid $325 in 1969 Comment from : @tomdaoust |
Good review Just curious though How much development and tone improvement do you really get on a HPL guitar? Comment from : @BFClayto |
I feel like its more noticable with aucustic than electric Comment from : @amekgomo5250 |
If you buy an overrated Martin make sure you buy from an authorized dealer If not and it needs repair under warranty it will take a lot longer to deal with the issue Comment from : @brooklynboy1000 |
“Buys nice jewelry and cream and lotions” this killed me Comment from : @RyanTenney |
Nice guitar Comment from : @BrianMartin-pf5zs |
Thank you! Comment from : @eggman7527 |
Cue the fucking Squier knobheads who are utterly convinced that price doesn't matter and that the rest of us are utterly insane Comment from : @CircusNormal |
I don't know how i ended up here; i'm not into guitars or sound engineering but my two cents is that the Martin sounds much nicer It is more noticeable than I thought it would be Comment from : @mythicdale8757 |
Thanks for showing how much better cheap foreign guitars are than over priced American American manufacturers zero in on suckers Comment from : @spiritualawakenings6251 |
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY, I've always loved martin guitars, that is until recently, I work in a guitar store as a guitar tech and I have never seen anything like the quality drop on these guitars, every second guitar we get in has a bad neck angle creating really high action at the 12th fret, binding coming off, pickups faulty, saddles have to be filed down to nothing to get them even near playable, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON ANY MARTIN, you will regret it Comment from : @Vigilante311 |
Only a dweeb can notice the difference Comment from : @catopwnzify |
5:05 - "They BOTH have the same scale length" I see As opposed to only one of them having the same scale length, I suppose? Comment from : @jimmyolsenschannel6263 |
sorry but the cheaper one wins yes there is a slight difference but not worth the heavy price Comment from : @MastahDriver |
The 42 just rings and has that signature Martin sound I can smell the wood The X1 sounds good but just not in the same league Comment from : @hamerplayer1229 |
What do you think about the Epiphone J-200 EC? Comment from : @MrPAULONEAL |
Unless you are a professional guitarist, buy the cheaper one Comment from : @MrPAULONEAL |
The cheaper one sounded awesome!!! wowless crap on it to deaden the sound Comment from : @royhanson3335 |
Most the money goes to the bling and craftsmanship Comment from : @4vinylsound |
Something about the cheap one just gives me More satisfaction It has a better Echo Beautiful sound barely can hear the pic Comment from : @AnthonyRobertson |
For recording my own music at home I like my Martin 000X1AE It's not ideal for live performance but great for practice and recording I just use a trusty SM57 microphonebrbrA slight price jump up but I also really like the Martin SC-13E acoustics Great sound, easy access to upper frets, ebony fretboard and a reasonable price ($1,599 - $1,999 USD depending on color)brbrI never spend more than 2k on any guitar because you can find every type of guitar in the 2k & under price range Comment from : @MusicWizard85 |
Omgthe cheaper sounds soooo much better clear prsitine echoy cmean soundsnice work Comment from : @jesuseugenioramos |
omgjust friggin play them Comment from : @mrfancypants99999 |
None of this matters because acoustics really need to age a big to grow in to their sound Playing these stock spec acoustics just ain’t the way Comment from : @stalwartzero7001 |
Will a $6000 guitar sound 10X better than a $600 guitar?brbrHeck, a $6000 guitar won't even sound 10x better than a $60 plastic guitar! ;) The idea of comparing sound as a direct consequence of price is not a workable comparison YES, the more expensive guitar sounds better BUT, if you were on stage, nobody in the audience would be saying, "He sounds really good with 000-X1 but think how much better he would sound if he played a OOO42" ;) brbrNowadays most performers amplify the acoustic guitar - either using a real microphone or guitar pickup Therefore, you can essentially EQ ANY guitar to sound like you want it to sound Comment from : @buskman3286 |
I’d love opinions of a Zager vs Martin Comment from : @thepetesmith |
Mostly its not about sound its about investment and resale Comment from : @scotimotti |
It’s the archer, not the arrow Comment from : @skipgrumblis |
