It's such a joke If fast chargers were used frequently they would be more profitable than gas stations, at similar margins, a lot less infrastructure and overhead is required to build a station They would be used very frequently if they didn't all charge stupid high rates, and those rates were published transparently online Once they are used very frequently of course it also makes sense to provide other conveniences to make use of the foot traffic (especially! since charging takes more time), but not before Anyhow electricity is a public utility so should ev charging, that's how you fix the pricing Comment from : @Rene-uz3eb |

As a Tesla owner, the perfect solution is already here gas stations with a row of Tesla chargers All EVs in the US will be able to use Tesla chargers starting in 2025, so if half of the gas stations add a bunch of Tesla chargers, all problems are solved The gas stations will be ready if/when the percentage of EVs gets higher, they won't have to worry about losing any business And the EV drivers will have access to bathrooms, snacks, and more safety with attendant/cameras 24/7 It's a win win for everyone Comment from : @yeahbuddy92193911 |

One of the things which I see in the photos of the chargers on here is that some of them have real issues with accessibility for wheelchair users No room between the chargers to fit a chair, cables holsters with poor access, not usable for someone sat in a chair, same for control panels, card readers etc Comment from : @rugbygirlsdadg |

It would make sense for gas stations to build some chargers in their lots to attract EV customers and charge them a fee to charge it which can cover electricity, maintenance, and a profit After all, gas stations barely make anything from fuel sales Most of their profits come from selling products like drinks and snacks But I have a feeling that a lot of oil companies aren't allowing them to do so I have only seen charging stations in a handful of gas stations over the years Comment from : @Sulfen |

Possibly even allowing us to convert gas stations into EV stations in which we can buy battery packs at gas stations for as little as $40 to $60 for an 8 hour or so battery & be on our way just as we do today when we fill up our cars with gas It’ll be no difference $40 at the pump gets you approximately 4-6 hours of highway driving time & so will batteries in the future! While very intersting, i think this argument presupposes that charging is always going to take 30-50 minutues I think the eventual EV charging infrastructure will be the conversion of existing gas stations as improvements in battery technology will one day get us charged up in 5-15 minutes It seems we're 5 years or so away from EVs with 500-700 mile range and promise charging times of 15 minutes We could theoretically spend as much time at a charging station as we do at the pump (ie we only need to charge to 50 to have the standard range of an ICE car, cutting down charging time) I think its more likely that battery technology improves in a faster span of time than building this new infrastructure Comment from : @lanced4114 |

one good point someone brought up was the voltage of lets say 10 charging points at a charging point The 10 stations will have to split available voltage to all 10 if they are all occupied The more cars the less kwh are available for each Not to forget the already strained electrical grid before evs people were asked at certain times to curb usage for hrs or days The power companies are not upgrading the grid so how would this ever work before that happens? I don't know about US charging stations, but here in Europe, they are generally VERY WELL located at "strategic" spots especially, in my experience the Tesla ones There are also quite a number that are located in absolutely gorgeous locations, or next to a nice restaurant which is nice, but definitely not the point, as the point is to recharge in 15-30 minutes!
