Most often Adding extra shash locks would not close the gap completely or youstop draft coming in side the house Add wider sticky rubber paper bk peal off sealer from bottom of shash gap No draft anymore! Remove sealer in summer to open windo! Comment from : @harishrana9195 |

I always come for the random bits of knowledge But i stay for the tiny models Comment from : @Duramaxturbo |

I got a grant to pay half the cost of spray foam on and IN every external surface of my 200 year old house, including between the foundation and house Covering all the roof joists AND the floor of the attic No snow melt on my roof For the tightest hat you could get Before that, there was nothing in the walls, not even corn cobs!! Savings was obvious! The upstairs is near completely heated by just the downstairs upward heat convection and trapping under the hat Now I use only a tank of heating oil a year, before it was almost TWO!!! Now I'm installing a wood gasifier indoor boiler to get through on a few hundred dollars of wood heat per year I've had soo many various contractors saying it was all done wrong??? Comment from : @eranorion |

Great video! Comment from : @LearningSpanishwithDrL |

@2:40 recommend insulating the attic in the roof joist? Meaning you want to condition unusable space Genius! Let’s increase the surface area we are insulating, aka losing heat to? Go back to class and try to learn some modern day “ building science”! Comment from : @DrewLeeper-n4y |
Keep yo camera away from my house 😅 Comment from : @junkfoodjunky |
Don't forget gaskets behind outlet/ switch covers Still have cold air though electrical box Comment from : @dwaynes5983 |
Insulating pipes also has its perils Insulation keeps cold from the pipes But also keeps heat from the pipes Best way to insulate crawlspace pipes is with a V of insulation hanging from the floor so that heat can reach the pipe through the floor Comment from : @RazorStrap |
Surprised they didn't mention the little insulated covers you can buy for outlets that go right under the plastic cover Those are amazing for particularly bad outlets Comment from : @thenerdguy123 |
If my house were flipped upside-down like a boat, it'd act more like a colander and sink straight to the bottom Comment from : @Mrdogedog |

Boys, brbrLove the show but a few things do get left out brbrFor example - this video on insulating the roof of your housebrbrI would be interested to know, that when the floor up there has no attic and the joists are open bay, plus the only access in this house is a ceiling hatch in a closet that is about 12 inches wide by 18 inches long, Just how exactly do you get yourself into the attic, what do you step on, how do you get large insulation material up thru that hatch?brbrThis is not a old farm house with a full attic, a floor, and a staircase into the attic So are these people out of luckbrbrLooking forward to your response to thisbrbrThanks muchbrbrBob Comment from : @robertschworm6036 |
do you need to insulate pex pipe like you do copper? Comment from : @duncan359 |

Good day I have an old house that I am trying to get all the air leaks closed off From the sill and the exterior walls My question is if I only do the sill from my crawl space inside do I still do the outside as well? The exterior walls are a dead giveaway so I know I have to go outside for that Please let me know and have a great day from Wasilla Alaska!! Comment from : @burtlint6945 |

Instead of putting heating equipment out of heated envelope just by putting all equipment all design like in early days have heating and air conditioning equipment in the heated envelope air seal properly installed insulation properly ! No heat ducts in attic no equipment ! You could be saving up to 25 with this design ! Comment from : @larrysowders7492 |

I appreciate Richard talking about attic insulation—Matt Risinger and Dr Joseph Lstiburek have great information on this topic, which I don’t feel like is talked about enough, and I believe you will see a building paradigm shift from vented attic to conditioning attic with insulated roof deck Comment from : @markclark110 |
Option B I just snuggle with my kittens Comment from : @samsngdevice5103 |
Lol technically no matter how a house is insulated if you put it on water upside down it will sink, Comment from : @alexblackish-709 |

I can feel cold air through the side jamb of my door opposite of the hinges How would I best seal that? Comment from : @Kjleed13 |
At 6:15 when they are talking about air infiltration the kraft faced fiberglass batt insulation is installed backwards The treated paper side of the fiberglass batt should be installed with the paper facing the warm side of the wall We should be looking at the pink side of the batt 👍 Comment from : @knowledgeispower6192 |
The first thing I ask you is what is your insulation like before I sell you solar Some companies could care less Comment from : @stevencaskey7473 |

The major issue I'm having is air leakage at the point between the foundation and frame There's a gap in the siding and I don't know what to do about it Comment from : @Iiifly2 |
There are 100,000s of house's that have absolutely horrible insulation values to them in both hot and cold weather climate areas It should be a requirement before sale of a house to have an energy audit completed Comment from : @andyjohnson3790 |

No outlet foam covers? Odd Comment from : @gtarules1 |
They keep talking about sealing the attic/roof, but they don't seem to be talking about all the vents to release moisture and prevent mold How do you balance that? Comment from : @Zyrean7007 |

Great video - Love the thermal image - would love to see if there is any difference if they put in a double or triple pane window Maybe not but that would be great to see or put a thermometer touching a double pane and single pane in the same room Again - would love to see that same thermal with the electrical before and after the calk is applied Comment from : @boedillard8807 |
Missed opportunity to explain the chimney effect to drive home how air sealing can be even more of a factor in indoor comfort than insulation Comment from : @jh-12358 |
I love that they reuse that little wood frame model for different segments Last seen with Tommy, demonstrating how to identify load-bearing walls Comment from : @alexknight7191 |
Do all you want, and its great And the energy companies will just tack on extra service charges that are more than your actual usage, making it all seem pointless But hey, blame the builders that want to save $25 per house that cause thousands of dollars in heating expense over the decades Comment from : @virgil3241 |
The attic crawlspace access is in my bedroom closet and once you're in there, bmaybe/b there's enough room to crawl Comment from : @shawniscoolerthanyou |

High Fuel Bills Thank You Joe Byron brLets Go Brandon 🇺🇸br#Bidenflation Comment from : @bob88pct |
Be prepared to buy and install an HRV if you are truly successful with stopping close to all the air leaks As you build a tighter house you will end up with a much more fragile house Its not as simple as stopping all air leaks as that will cause other serious moisture problems in a cold environment, If you don't have mechanically controlled air Comment from : @erinkennedy2417 |
When I bought my 10 year old house the previous owner said her electric bills were always around $300 a month My first week, in the house, I went up in the attic and discovered half the house had four inches of blown in insulation and the other half had nothing at all I added blown in insulation so there is a 12 inch layer throughout the attic That was six years ago and I have not had an electric bill over $100 Comment from : @GCSol |
I appreciate Kevin always playing like he knows less than he actually knows so that the audience feels like they've got a buddy to learn with :) Comment from : @dosadoodle |

You guys are the best!brWe are slowly getting our house up to speed brFINALLY, had solar installed! Thanks for always bringing us new information, and reminders on how we can do it ourselves Comment from : @dianeangelo2227 |
My house was built in 1897 When it was built, you fired up the coal furnace when it got cold out, and if it got too warm in the house, you simply opened the windows Thermal insulation was never even a consideration brI'm getting my single pane, bay windows replaced this year, next year blown insulation Hopefully it takes my heating bill from the upper 300's to something more manageable Comment from : @ImTheJoker4u |
You can put a sterling engine fan on your furnace to help push the warm air around the place to better heat your home :) Comment from : @Painfulwhale360 |
1:56 putting styrofoam insulation on top of fiberglass is a horrible idea, vapor barrier needs to be towards the warm part of the house (northern climate) and any condensation needs to dry towards the colder side Comment from : @woohunter1 |
